Presidential Candidate Duncan Hunter Guest Blogs at GOP Bloggers

National Journal ranks me as the most conservative member of Congress running for the Presidency based on my lifetime voting record. So, I don't need to hire an army of consultants to turn me into a conservative. My record hasn't changed since I was swept into office by the Reagan Revolution 26 years ago. In fact, someone recently pointed out to me that I have more experience in Congress than the top three Democratic candidates combined.

I'm also a Vietnam veteran who served in the 173rd Airborne and 75th Army Rangers. I've been to Iraq five times, have a son who served two tours of duty in Iraq as a Marine, and Chaired of the House Armed Services Committee. So, I know what it will take to lead the country to victory in the war on terror.

Interesting posting from Hunter. It's nice to see a presidential candidate reach out to the blogosphere.

Amen to that.

He gives the facts. I like that. The other candidates seem to be afraid of them

I like Duncan Hunter and respect him. I do think that he has little to no chance of winning the nomination or beating Hillary in a general election. If he was able to win the CA governorship, I would have a different view of him.

Our challenge shouldn't just be to find someone we agree with, it should be to find someone that can bring our Party together and draw in independents. I don't think Hunter can do that.

..no problem with anyone supporting him as long as they jump to Thompson once Hunter bows out :)

"Another important issue for my campaign is protecting American jobs from unfair trade practices. American workers are the most productive and innovative labor force in the world. Unfortunately, they are asked to compete in an unfair environment against other workers who make only a fraction of a living wage and are employed by companies that face few, if any, responsibilities to the environment or to their employees. In addition, American manufacturers are forced to compete against foreign companies that benefit from their country's currency and/or regulatory regimes. We've allowed nations like China to devalue their currency and place high tariffs on our goods, which puts American workers at an enormous disadvantage, not because they're doing a bad job, but because our government isn't insisting on fair trade. Ominously, China is cheating on trade and using the billions of American trade dollars to arm its military. If I'm elected President, I will fix this bad deal on trade."

I'd like to hear the details of how he intended to do this.

He didn't. My point being that he hasn't been tested in a political arena outside his very conservative California district.

I think he needs more...either name id, expericence, etc.

Your wording you choose had implications that he tried to run and lost.

Never, but if he had, even if he had lost, it would have shown a desire for leadership. And if he had won, he would have some executive experience under his belt and we might not be stuck with Arnold S. as a "republican" model for Rudi Giuliani.

"National Journal ranks me as the most conservative member of Congress running for the Presidency based on my lifetime voting record."

Ron Paul is certainly more 'conservative' than Hunter, at least if one considers 'conservative' to mean minimizing government.

Proactively pro-life, America-first policy on trade, securing the border... he's got my vote in the primary!
