As someone who is also legally blind let me clue you into the world of the visually disadvantaged.
In most Canadian cities the blind can use Handi-transit for a fee or ride free in public transportation. The additional expenses that we have to pay for because of disability are given a reprieve when it comes to public transportation.
Gone are the days when we were hidden away waiting for someone to "fetch us" to where ever we had to go. Because of public transport we can travel alone and have the freedom that you the sighted masses take for granted.

Hey if people on a bus in Toronto can all ignore a girl getting shot in the head, it shouldn’t be too hard for ppl in Calgary to ignore a blind kid getting kicked off the bus.

Many years ago my cousin and I were hanging wallpaper in the home of a certain Tobacco magnate in southern Alabama. As the man was traversing the room my cousin tried to point out to him some irregularities in the wall that necessitated some additional work. The old man was dragging his fingertip along the wall as he headed for the door to the porte cochere and brusquely saiđ not to bother him. He reached the door and found the knob by touching the frame and moving his hand downward to it. He went out to his car, walked around it to the driver's door dragging his finger on the fender and hood, got in the car and drove away. When my cousin and I were done and headed back to Tallahassee we were diligent in watching out for that car in traffic.

The point is that free bus is a legislated perk for certain categories of disabled people up there. It is expected and other arrangements are not made or allowed for because the perk is there. The kid was poorly treated.

One of my immutable laws of the universe: give the average person even a little bit of power and influence, and they will go nuts with it in (often short) time.
