I think I have a more relevant point: WHO THE HELL CARES? I’m voting for someone on their politics, not their religion. I don’t care if he worships sun gods. It’s really not important.

Exactly right!

When you start parsing the details of religious doctrine, the discussion quickly turns into a useless can of worms. Religions live in glass houses and should not throw stones.

Secret? Hardly. They’ve been posted on the web for years.

Sacred? We like to think so, and we seek to keep them that way.

1. God is a Father, an Eternal Father, with a glorious body of flesh and bones, and DNA. He, like you and I, also has/is a spirit.
Where in Holy Scripture is there any support for the idea that the Father was Man Incarnate, as opposed to the Son?

Thank you.

Yes, it’s easy to forget about Dirty Harry. Frankly, if Mitt makes it past the primaries, Harry will become the Achilles Heel of Hillary’s anti Mitt/Mormon plan. IMHO

As of now, Mr. Romney is my choice.

Didn’t say anything about “sacred”. Thanks for the response.

So, what is the difference between a cult and a religion?

If you believe that a Creator gave us free choice to reject Him at times yet still shows us mercy you will have one kind of outlook on life.

If you believe that a Creator demands perfect fidelity and will heap untold misery for the slightest transgression you will have another kind of outlook on life.

If you belive that everything is by accident you will have another kind of outlook on life.

Something's true. The "everything by accident" view is the least rational, btw.

Once your involved with the cult, it is not easy to get out of it, and ramifications of membership oftentimes effect family relationships.

I am a former Mormon and I still have great relations with all my Mormon friends and family (well to be perfectly honest, I don't get along all that well with my Mother, but that has nothing to do with religion).

Where does this intense anger come from? Just what is it about the Mormon Church that makes you so upset?

You still have not answered the question, “What is a cult and what is a religion?”. Another person did post a credible definition earlier.

As to your last point, that’s only your opinion unless you can “prove” otherwise.

Be sure to read the lead-in, in truth few will appreciate this as much as those of us who have escaped the Mormon “Cult”.

"Escaped"? Now you are being melodramatic.

People leave the LDS Church all the time. It is not difficult; just ask to have your name removed. (I have processed a few such requests myself.) Or if you prefer, just quit attending.

Well your right. People who are married, with apparently lovely families may be immoral in other ways.

But since I can't know all the candidates personally, I have to use some tangible standards. And a grandfather of ten, father of five (all of whom are married) who has remained faithful to one wife for many years, running on a conservative platform, beats a twice divorced thrice married cheating husband running on a Liberal platform.

I should also point out that Harry Reid is Mormon as well. However, most members of the church that I know can’t stand him. So, a politician’s membership in the church does not automatically guarantee the support of the rest of the membership. Mormons are, for the most part, very conservative when it comes to their politics so, it does matter what the politician in question believes, articulates and does.

I quit attending many, many, years ago. But if you come from a family with over a century and a half of history in “The Church”, escape is not as easy as you might think.

Until all my living ancestors are in the grave I’ll not really be free of that “religion” (I have to be careful or I’ll get vulgar). And even then ther’ll still be repercutions, I’m sure.

It’s not an easy thing when you have thousands of relatives who stand against you, ready to defend a fictitious religion.

It’s a lot like the story of “The Emperor’s New Clothes” gone mad, where the Innocent kid gets persecuted for not buying into the lie.

I realize you didn’t. That was my distinction.

What others perceive as “secret,” we view as being “sacred.”

just quit attending

Doesn't really work. Every few years you'll get an eager-beaver new EQ President and some home teachers will start bugging you again. :o)

Thank you for your personal testimony, Reaganesque. Mitt is a sharp, intelligent, articulate gentleman with many outstanding qualities and impressive accomplishments and appears generally to be a person of good character, even if we don't always agree.

You are fortunate that you got to know him personally, and that this experience only strengthened your support for Romney's candidacy. : )

When it comes to intervention by the supernatural, (IE God(s), spirits, demons, etc.) the burden is on you to show how that works.

Well, if actually knows where all the money goes to, then he is a god./Laughter

No worry though, Bush is a republican and between the Wash Post and the GAO every dollar is accounted for.
