Statement from North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper on the Duke University lacrosse rape case. Good afternoon, everyone.

On Jan. 13 of this year, I accepted the request of the Durham district attorney to take over three Durham cases. At the time, I promised a fresh and thorough review of the facts and a decision on the best way to proceed.

The taxpayers of Durham richly deserve to pay. They elected this clown, well after anyone paying attention (many FReepers) knew pretty much exactly what had gone down.

Sounds like these boys should move on.........onto the Bahama Islands, ......wait buy the Bahama Islands with the $$$ they should receive from all the lawsuits filed against the “REAL” criminals D.A. Nifag, the 88 COWARD LIBERAL teachers @ Duke, & the media who participated in criminal activity printing “alleged” erroneous LIES.

a) the Duke lacrosse team hired strippers, b) one of whom made up a story about being kidnapped & raped

So utterly shocking to think that such a professional young lady could be even remotely capable of such unseemly behavior.

Pity the fine, upstanding gentlemen of the Duke lacrosse team for all they've been through. May all of their future such social gatherings bring them only the happiness they desire and deserve.

Duke has to move. Nobody in his right mind would send a kid to school anywhere near Durham at this point.

Wake up. Life is not a porridge of absolutes. Justice is supposed to be blind to the infirmities of social differentials.

My favorite ending here would be for DA Nifong to resign, and then the Duke 3 citizen-laddies hire him to sue himself. They win the case, and with the proceeds open a strip club in Durham. It’s the only way justice will ever truly be served.

Wake up. Life is not a porridge of absolutes.

I'm wide awake, thanks. This case serves as an excellent proof of the ol' "When you lie down with dogs, you might wake up with fleas" axiom. Sometimes you win; sometimes you lose. The absolute is found in the risk, not the outcome.

Justice is supposed to be blind to the infirmities of social differentials.

Yes it is. But, one can only wonder if these gents had been less well-heeled, whether they'd be serving time behind bars.

Of course, in this case, the answer is likely "no" simply because if they'd been less well-heeled, the professional young lady would have simply performed her job and moved on to service her next customer.

“What will language of this nature do for Nifong’s other cases? Won’t defense attorneys from now on simply have to imply that he’s overreaching again on every case he prosecutes?”

Something tells me that ol’ Nifong won’t be prosecuting many more cases.

Not as harsh as what “would” have happened to those boys if they did'nt come from money.

EVERY case nifong has ever prosecuted needs to be investigated with a fine-toothed comb. If he did it to these boys, he's probably done it to others as well.

>>Something tells me that ol’ Nifong won’t be prosecuting many more cases.

And further, defense attorneys now have a rich new avenue of approach for appeals on his old prosecutions.

You might think your “witty sarcasm” is funny, but I am not amused.

Young men and women often make stupid choices in selecting entertainment options.
I wasn’t rich, and I am not 100% white, but I did throw a few keg parties at that age,(while I also defended the rest of the USA from the commies) and I still know the recipe for a killer Everclear punch in a garbage can, and how best to drape a toga for maximum effect.
I have even hired male strippers for a bachelorette party.
You want to stone me?
No prosecutor had any right to charge these young men for a crime they obviously did not commit.
Nor does it give people like you, and you are not alone, the right to state these men should go to jail for something, anything, just to show everyone that the government, the media, and assorted stupid people were not entirely wrong.

You were not only wrong, but you also villified innocent men against all known facts and despite proof to the contrary.
You need to publically apologise to these men.
Or go to hades.

“Nifong is really toast now.”

And he deserves nothing less. The lacrosse players may have been boorish, but they didn’t deserve what they got. There is no justification for deliberate false accusation.

This is a case which TRULY SCREAMS punative damages.

If this was ANYONE ELSE who did not have the financial resources to fight, they would have had to make a plea deal because a legal defense agains a lying prosecutor are astronomical.

HOW MANY OTHER DEFENDANTS DID NIFONG’S OFFICE RAILROAD THE SAME WAY?

Folks, this is SOP in prosecutorial offices.

neither Nifong nor Crystal Gail Mangum will face charges

Why isn't the accuser facing charges?

Is is not illegal to falsely accuse someone of such a horrendous crime not to mention three people?!

Or is this just another attempt at political correctness....This really gripes me!
