Are Imus Remarks Any Worse Than Some Rappers?

Some context: Imus was correct. A lot of hip-hop artists have said worse things. It was only last week that we saw Snoop Dogg being praised for criticizing conservative pundit Bill O'Reilly on a popular Netherlands TV talk show.

What got lost amid the applause was Snoop's referring to his former female lawyer, Lauren Lake, who had appeared on "The O'Reilly Factor," as a "ho who was doing the bidding of her pimp" (meaning Snoop).

see these lyrics:

BTW, Chris Rock joked about them in one of his shows as being really offensive and awful, but he still joked about it.

I would say the difference is rappers do not have MSM elite types regularly sucking up to them on their albums. This line of reasoning seems like a lame attempt to put the onus back on Blacks for what was nothing more than a pure insult to some people who clearly didn’t deserve it. Imus should have called the Duke false accuser a nappy-headed ho. At least that would have been factually accurate.

If Chris Rock had a show on Comedy Central called the “Nappy Headed Ho Show” nobody would say a word to him.

of course they're not... as a white person he can't make remarks about race. It's an anvil that's held over every white person. But they can demean themselves and their race and seemingly get away with it.

I was in LA during the Watts riots of 1965 (that date is close).
I remember driving down the freeway with some friends and 2 highways cruisers pulled up next to us and saw we weren't black and continued on. Farther up the freeway we passed a line of parked cars on the side of the freeway and black men and women being loaded into school buses... all black people in LA (all of LA) were under curfew... if out they were arrested.

I am 62 years old (probably close to Imus' age) and have seen terrible things done against that race of people. We need to remember where we came from and what we were and how they were treated. They (the blacks) need to stop calling themselves names (per Bill Cosby) and improve their lives thru education.

This is about the left sacrificing one of their own and then proceeding down the list of many other radio talk show hosts.

Himmler would be proud.

I still think the joke was taken out of context as a reference to the 1988 Spike Lee movie 'School Daze' (Wanna-bees vs. Jiggaboos dance off number) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlxI3-8BVKQ

It's almost bordering on laughable how out of touch Jackson and Sharpton are, or maybe they are purposely so...

Mike Greenberg, of the "Mike & Mike in the Morning" sports talk show, made an analogy to the character in the movie "Animal House" who says, "No one can treat our pledges like that. Only we can treat our pledges like that."

It’s all about the money. Imus’ bosses don’t want to risk losing ad dollars, so he’s toast. Doesn’t matter what’s right or wrong, just what brings in the dollars. Rappers make millions for the record companies BECAUSE they talk the way they do, so they’re not in trouble. Capitalism rocks.

"They (the blacks) need to stop calling themselves names (per Bill Cosby) and improve their lives thru education."

The left is again exploiting an issue for their own ends. They are only interested in victims if it suits their goals.

I’m such a film nerd that I got that reference. I think the other problem with Imus’ remarks is that they just weren’t that witty or amusing. I remember one time Howard Stern had a Jeopardy parody contest to determine who was “really smarter” blacks or whites. THe white contestant had an Ivy League degree and the black contestant was a homeless bum. But all the questions were about street knowledge type stuff like dope and pimping so the black guy won easily. It was racially offensive as hell, but at least it was funny. Imus is just a mumbling drug addict.

Lloyd Banks 6 Figga Nigga Lyrics
Yeah--Oh yeah!
You motha fuckas ride with me, Oh yeah.

The divas, the bitches, the dimes, the duces,

The snatchin's, Kidnappens it happends,
so often. the murders, the burglars.

Be careful where your walkin.
The East, the West, the North, the South.
Stay on point 'cause' niggas will run up in your house.

It goes deeper than just educating themselves. What they said they wanted was EQUALITY...what they really wanted was SUPERIORITY...and judging from today’s double standard, they have gotten that. Making racial comments, whether its coming from a white person or a black person, doesnt matter.

I had never seen School Daze before (made by Spike Lee no less).

This clip changes the meaning of the jogaboos vs. the wannabes comment made on Imus show. It’s a cultural reference.

It's not too late. Actually, now is the perfect time for him to say that. There is intense focus on both issues right now. What a great way to completely reveal the depth of hypocrisy at play here.

I’m not crying any tears for Imus - But it’s funny how both MTV and MSNBC are both owned by VIACOM. You would think their rules would apply to all the network stations they own.

I think the number is officially titled 'Miss Re-Re's Salon' (Good or Bad Hair-Jiggaboos vs. the Wannabees) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlxI3-8BVKQ

I'm amused that Imus has such an in-depth knowledge of Spike Lee movies!
