“...that were wrongly accused.” Right. He uses the passive tense, as if the libelous accusation of rape came out of the sky, like a bolt of lightning.

Nifong, the best way for you to apologize not only to the players, but to your wife and daughter, is to crawl into a hole and pull your rock in after you. Join the French Foreign Legion (the nom de guerre “Sac d’Engrais” fits you) so they can forget you ever existed.

Ditto, WH. Let’s parse this Clintonian masterpiece a little more:

“”To the extent””: ie: Plenty of room here to argue just how much is my fault. Not exactly “the buck stops here”.

“judgments”: I was actually exercising judgment: rational, fair analysis of the facts with the objective of serving truth and justice. Not doing any of this for political expediency or part of my re-election effort. Not at all.

“that ultimately proved”: Ultimately, but at the time my totally naked self promotion seemed like a good idea in the public interest.

“to be incorrect”: incorrect sounds so innocent doesn’t it? especially when compared to stupid, venal, loathsome, immoral and disgusting

“I apologize to the three students”: they only had names when they were indicted. Now they are the “three students”

“that were wrongly accused,”: as you so well put it, passive. Happened by deus ex machina.

“Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong”: Should be inmate Nifong, disgraced/ful former DA, Durham County,

“said in a statement.”: Notice how, when he was riding this publicity stunt for all it was worth, he was quite happy to do everything by press conference. When it comes to demonstrating the sincerity of his sentiment and the gravity of the harm he caused, the slimeball issues a statement.

For people discussing monetary responsibility: there are several possible scenarios and others have posted about whether Nifong will have immunity or not. Rest assured, though that the people of NC are going to get stuck with a big tab when this is all done and I hope it will bring them to their senses when choosing their next DA for Durham County.
