For All The Divas Of The Canteen
Menagerie
The Barn that we Cats live in appears to have been around
For generations of animals, Its structure is solid and quite sound
With Treasures galore hidden deep with the shadows that abound
Built with rustic, "No Frills" comforts, none better can be found
Its soft Pine needle covered floor has muffled countless steps
Of Cows and Horses and their clumsy calves and foals
While we Barn Cats watch over and calm them, which is our goal
Between brief cozy warm naps at which we quickly become adept
Either on the Pine downed floor or the warm Hay Loft way up high
If you ignore Minerva, the Black Snake who burrows invisible and sly
Who, despite her many years possesses a sense of wit and humor wry
Telling odd, mysterious Bedtime Stories to help the time go by
Or the Opossums, Raccoons or Foxes looking for food and a dry place to rest
Which doesn't happen often, though their behavior always is the best
Aided by the family of clever mice who serenade us with their songs
We don't bother to confront them for we feel that they belong
Under the slanted, shingled roof and open fields to roam
It may appear very old and Spartan, but it's what we call Our Home
