Will FR embrace socialism to make way for Rudy Giuliani as a Republican presidential candidate?
vanity | April 21, 2007 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 04/21/2007 6:42:25 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

We've got some real challenges facing us. FR was established to fight against government corruption, overstepping, and abuse and to fight for a return to the limited constitutional government as envisioned and set forth by our founding fathers in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution and other founding documents.

One of the biggest cases of government corruption, overstepping and abuse that I know of is its disgraceful headlong slide into a socialist hell. Our founders never intended for abortion to be the law of the land. And they never intended the Supreme Court to be a legislative body. They never intended God or religion to be written out of public life. They never intended government to be used to deny God's existence or for government to be used to force sexual perversions onto our society or into our children's education curriculum. They never intend for government to disarm the people. They never intended for government to set up sanctuary cities for illegals. They never intended government to “rule” over the people and or to take their earnings or private property or to deprive them of their constitutional rights to free speech, free religion, private property, due process, etc. They never intended government to seize the private property of private citizens through draconian asset forfeiture laws or laws allowing government to take private property from lawful owners to give to developers. Or to seize wealth and redistribute it to others. Or to provide government forced health insurance or government forced retirement systems.

All of the above are examples of ever expanding socialism and tyranny brought to us by liberals/liberalism.

FR fights against the liberals/Democrats in all of these areas and always will. Now if liberalism infiltrates into the Republican party and Republicans start promoting all this socialist garbage, do you think that I or FR will suddenly stop fighting against it? Do you think I'm going to bow down and accept abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, global warming, illegal alien lawbreakers, gun control, asset forfeiture, socialism, tyranny, totalitarianism, etc, etc, etc, just so some fancy New York liberal lawyer can become president from the Republican party?

Do you really expect me to do that?

If the site is cleaned of all views but those held by you, it will be a pretty lonesome site. You will have lost most of the fun, most of the humor. The Mark Steyn, the South Park, the Lileks, and the live threads.

Rudy Giuliani, fresh off winning the endorsement of Steve Forbes, now says he was just kidding when he said he thought the flat tax was a good idea.

"I didn't favor it, I said something academic," Giuliani said at a press conference in Florida on Saturday, in response to a reporter asking him why he had switched from opposing a flat tax to favoring it. "What I said was, and it was not a joke, but it was half-jocular, was if we didn't have an income tax...what would I favor?

"First I would favor no tax," he said laughing and turning to his wife Judith, who duly smiled back. "That would be my first position. My second position would probably be a flat tax."

But, he said, the tax "would probably not be feasible."

Nor is liberalism "independent thought" - it is a lockstep approach to killing freedom via abortion, gun grabbing, taxes and the like.

I'm sure Hitler called it independent thought too, as he was gaining control of the masses.

I think you under estimate the amount of ‘true conservatives’ on this site.

Look at the polls in the side bars to give a little inkling of a clue.

BULL$HIT! You are a coward who will vote for a left wing liberal, in order to stop a left wing liberal. You are also pro illegal immigration and I invite any FReeper to check your last 1000 posts, and call me a liar!

Get lost!

Thank you for pointing that out; I didn’t take the time to go back and capture that and I appreciate your noting the apparent discrepancy.

I will not negotiate my principles. Rudy would never get my nod. Our country’s leaders have negotiated their principles to get us where we are today. Our leaders will change...or our leaders will change! I will not watch my great country continue down the path that all of Europe is already experiencing. I will fight until my last breath to bring back and preserve what our Founding Fathers built.

“The real world Republicans don’t talk that way.”

You seem to think this is a GOP site. It is not. Although I’m Republican myself, I realize that this is a CONSERVATIVE site. That’s fiscal, political and social.

Maybe belonging to a conservative site as well as a GOP site would be helpful to you.

This really has absolutely nothing to do with dealing with dealing for recourse to injuries in the book of Leviticus. This has to do with a sure scientific knowledge of where life begins, and a value system that says human life at all stages is worth protecting. Once we start making exceptions, then life becomes unvalued, and is only precious where it can be used as a tool for the state. If you are too young, too old, or too sick to be of use, then you are a burden that can be justified by being put down.

That is not the American point of view. We have always cherished the worth of the individual, not as a tool, but because he was an individual. Each step proclaiming that life can be dealt with for convenience, such as abortion on demand, euthanasia for people who cannot speak for themselves, by some thought of quality of life as opposed to life itself changes the values which we founded this nation with.

This is why we fight for the right to life. Because we are NOT a cog in the socialist state.

I'm conservative enough to make Jim look liberal, but I really hate to see this.

This is happening because we have a leadership vacuum among Conservatives. The food fights on FreeRepublic political threads are merely a symptom of this wider problem.

The problem is not that some posters are not good freepers. We have deep divisions because we do not have a clear leader to rally around. Let's keep things civil, not throw people under the bus.

So who have we got to choose from?

Fred? Maybe Fred will prove an adequate stand in, but the jury is still out. We really don't know him. In particular, we have no idea how good he is in a crisis. He is untested in battle, and right now he's even untested on the campaign trail.

Duncan? Hunter Who? No one outside of his district or forums like this one has ever heard of him.

Newt? Self destructed, again. If his coffin needed more nails, he supplied plenty with his "debate" against "Vietnam" Kerry.

Romney? Maybe he's really a conservative at heart, but he sure didn't impress folks with tales of varmint hunting. The one thing I now know for sure about Mitt is that he don't know squat 'bout guns. I also know he doesn't know how to extract his foot from his mouth.

McCain? The traitor McCain has it right about Iraq. Maybe he should be Secretary of Defense (and maybe NOT). Regardless, McCain has stabbed people like me in the back too many times to ever be President. I'd vote for Rudy before I'd vote for McCain.

Rudy? He's a charismatic, natural leader. Probably the only one we've got (possibly excepting Fred). If he could rally conservatives to his side he would be the most electable "Republican". It's no wonder Rudy has supporters on FR. But he's a Republican only by New York standards, and that makes him a big city liberal to the rest of us (NOTE: Compared to Bloomberg, Rudy is outstanding). Maybe Rudy should be Secretary of State, or Ambassador to the UN. Not President.

Based on this list, we only have one choice: Fred. The man's unproven under fire, and we haven't even seen him on the campaign trail. We have no idea how he will fare, and yet he seems to be our only choice.

No wonder the political threads on FR have been so fratricidal. Since Ronald Reagan is not on the list, how should we proceed? I don't know, but fighting among ourselves won't help.

You are confusing Rudy's "Authoritarianism" with "Liberalism" regarding his legal views and actions.

I'm not a Rudy supporter, but I would not call him a liberal as compared to today's Progressive. He's quite far from it, and a lot of this criticism that I read here, is not fairly measured. It just looks like frustration to me.
