S.F. Mayor Says City Employees Won't Help In Immigration Raids
NBC4 TV ^ | 23 APRIL 2007 | Not Identified

SAN FRANCISCO -- A series of recent immigration raids in the Bay Area has prompted Mayor Gavin Newsom to pledge that San Francisco will remain a "sanctuary city."

During an address Sunday to about 300 mostly Latino members of St. Peter's Church, the mayor promised that San Francisco officials won't help federal authorities in conducting raids in the city.

The Board of Supervisors first declared San Francisco a sanctuary city in 1989.

The designation has no legal meaning, but Newsom promised that no city employee would assist in the raids.

Newsom's comments came after a series of recent raids by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials throughout the Bay Area.

On Friday, immigration agents arrested 13 foreign nationals who were working illegally at an Oakland manufacturing company.

Would San Francisco PLEASE just secede from the Union already? I don’t think anyone would mind, really.

I would. It's a really nice and strategic chunk of real estate.

Just because a whole bunch of no-good yellow-belly pot-smoking pipe-smoking commie-worshoping boy-loving God-denying soldier-spitting marriage-cheating freeloading bad-smelling America-hating freaks live there, doesn't mean I forfiet our collective deed on the place.....

The Feds withhold payments to states to make them comply, I think the same should be done here.

I am constantly amazed at how many elected officials, at all levels, are willing to sell the country down the river.

Dear Gavin:

Since you don’t recognize the laws of the federal government, good luck with that next earthquake.

Sincerely,
FEMA

Fine, forfeit all tax dollars and congressional seats for the state.

Then obviously there will be no need to pay any federal taxes, with out reprensation you know.

I'm sure there are a lot of "donor" states that would like to opt out also!

Long live the return of the Confederacy!

Either we have the rule of law or we dont. When our elected officials pick and choose which laws they will enforce and publicly support then we are in anarchy.

The real problem there, of course, is the Queen, er, Speaker of the House is their Congress critter (and I DO mean critter). She’ll make sure they get money. However, I’m curious to see just how she can justify her district’s position when she’s in charge of one of the lawmaking houses.

Why would you expect a game warden to police parking meters?

ICE can roust the illegals, and the SFPD looses some overtime.

The danger here is not the locals not enforcing the federal laws but the Feds enforcing all laws, with all the laws becoming federalized.

We are really lacking the rule of law because the Constitution is just a joke.

Ask George Bush the First, why he ignored the part about Double Jeopardy.

George Bush Sr. belived the founding Fathers intended every law to be defined multiple ways, to invalidate the protection the ban on Double Jeopardy, as a "rule of law", provided.

Ask the cops in the Rodney King case about Double Jeopardy.

Ok San Francisco its time to withhold every single penny of Federal dollars going the San Francisco. NOT another damn dime until you submit to All Federal regulations. Have you got the message?

Faulty logic like most libs. Cops are to enforce the law.

“Ask the cops in the Rodney King case about Double Jeopardy.”

Ahh yes and what state did that occur in?

Did you skip your meds today?

Faulty logic? A game warden and a Meter maid work for different branches of the government with different responsibilities. Just as the local police and the ICE work for different branches of the government, with different responsibilities.

Here is a clue you knuckle headed phony conservative.

It is called division of power. It is how the government is organized. Bet you never had a notion the concept existed. And you call me a "lib".

You have a lot of gosh darned nerve to come here and call me a liberal, go back to the DU where you came from you troll.

The Rodney King case happened in California and George Bush was in Washington D.C. when he chose to ignore the Constitution. What is your point?

Claim eminent domain by the federal government to make the entire city a national monument. Throw out the city government and install federal caretakers. To make it more pointed, do it by executive order.

For real amazement, consider the number of professors who are either teaching Marxism or teaching from a Marxist perspective, thus selling the future of America down the river.

That’s okay with us. The Federal government should then cut off all federal assistance to the city of San Franscico. Refuse to cooperate in any federally related local disturbances related to the city.
