S.F. Mayor Says City Employees Won't Help In Immigration Raids
NBC4 TV ^ | 23 APRIL 2007 | Not Identified

SAN FRANCISCO -- A series of recent immigration raids in the Bay Area has prompted Mayor Gavin Newsom to pledge that San Francisco will remain a "sanctuary city."

During an address Sunday to about 300 mostly Latino members of St. Peter's Church, the mayor promised that San Francisco officials won't help federal authorities in conducting raids in the city.

The Board of Supervisors first declared San Francisco a sanctuary city in 1989.

The designation has no legal meaning, but Newsom promised that no city employee would assist in the raids.

Newsom's comments came after a series of recent raids by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials throughout the Bay Area.

On Friday, immigration agents arrested 13 foreign nationals who were working illegally at an Oakland manufacturing company.

Each "yea" voter should be thrown behind bars.

The government should send in the national guard in order to enforce the law. Its no different from Bull Conner or George Wallace.

SF employees will be in their underground sex dungeons and too busy to be involved with immigration raids... (let the reader understand).

Good. I’m sure its a pain for ICE to co-ordinate with SFPD anyway.

Cut off any/all federal funding if they won’t uphold the laws of the US.

Yeah, they’ve been immensely helpful thus far..... I’m sure this is going to just break the backs of the Federal agencies who carry out these raids anyways.

Well, if it is the decision of San Francisco not to enforce federal law in that City, there is a logical response. Federal dollars should not be spent in that City. No highway funds, no welfare funds, no educational grants, no nothing.

They want to go it alone, they can do that. Until there is a loud sucking sound in wallets throughout the City, and the remaining sane residents -- assuming there are any -- dump Mayor Newsome unceremoniously into the Bay. There IS an election going on in that City, even as we speak.

Would San Francisco PLEASE just secede from the Union already? I don’t think anyone would mind, really.

I think he went to a special "outpatient" rehab.

"Cut off any/all federal funding if they won’t uphold the laws of the US."

I'd love to see that! I want to hear "Cry me a River" ! The next thing we will hear is a request for federal funding to cover the shortfall caused by the illegals!

Better that San Francisco drop into the Bay. With all residents.

“When that Aztlan thing kicks in, don’t they get California?”

Based on my limited reading of the trash posted by the Azitlan sites, it seems that they make no claims on northern California. In light of that, a case can be made that while they are both dangerous and a clear and present danger to the Republic, they know where to draw the line.

That’s more than can be said for San Francisco officialdom.
