Cheney: Democrats Are Defeatists About Iraq
Tuesday , April 24, 2007
WASHINGTON Vice President Dick Cheney, on Capitol Hill Tuesday for a regular Republican leadership meeting, lashed out against Democrats adding a timetable for withdrawal into the Iraq war supplemental spending bill.
Rarely commenting to the press after congressional visits, the vice president came before cameras to call a speech by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid "uninformed and misleading." He accused Reid and Democrats of pursuing their Iraq plans for the sake of political advantage, and he criticized Reid over conflicting statements he has made, from pledging not to cut funding to troops in Iraq while pushing for withdrawal to supporting a bill proposed by Sen. Russ Feingold that would defund the war should President Bush veto the withdrawal plan.
"In less than six months time, Senator Reid has gone from pledging full funding for the military, then full funding with conditions, and then a cut-off of funding. Three positions in five months on the most important foreign policy question facing the nation and our troops," Cheney said.
"Indeed last week, he said the war is already lost, and the timetable legislation that he is now pursuing would guarantee defeat," Cheney said.
Firing back at Cheney, as well as the president, Democrats called Bush's policy unaccountable and destined for failure.
"I'm not going to get into a name-calling match with somebody who has a 9 percent approval rating. ... I'm not going to get into a name-calling match with the administration's chief attack dog," Reid said after being asked about Cheney's remarks.

Go get ‘em Mr. VP. Big time...
"chief attack dog" is not name calling?
Dingy is so good he can contradict himself within the same sentence.
Giving thos the attention it deserves.
I think the VP should expose their defeatism. Just tell them the surge is working, Iraq is standing up, we are standing down. The Democrat surge is in its last throes.
The Congressional Democrats are causing our troops to be killed in greater numbers by emboldening the enemy.
As if calling someone an 'attack dog' is NOT name-calling.
Way to go Mr. Vice President. However it is time to call the democrats who they are: TRAITORS.
thos = this
It’s time Bush and Cheney called Liberals what they truly are—anti-American, anti-military cowards. Their acts of treason should be pointed out as well. The time for being politically correct and polite is over. We are at war with an enemy that wants us dead. Liberals using our troops as political pawns is reprehensible!
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
LOL! Good catch!
This is what the administration needs to do. They need to hammer the Democrats. There is no common ground to be found with traitors.
The penalty for the Congressional Democrats’ treason should be death by hanging.
Reid is one of the meanest, nastiest, rudest, and most arrogant traitors to ever take high public office.
thank God VP Cheney is finally speaking out !
Calling them for what they are.
take the gloves off...
Our good troops cannot fight the enemy to their fore
and the seditious politicians back in DC all by themselves.
Knock them on their okoles!
I saw Mr. Cheney’s comments on t.v. He deserves a standing ovation!! BUMP!
The Democrats need to be asked what responsibility they feel for innocents that will be killed and the loss of human life should the U.S. abandon Iraq now.
All of that blood will be on their hands.
For what? So Hillary Clinton, a corrupt politician can be president
I called. Thanks for providing the phone number.
Call your Senators and Reps — especially the RATS — and raise Hell
This is not news. What is news is that this is leaking out to the general public for the first time.
Re: # 22
They don’t care. Power is all that matters. They make me sick...
Which policy will give the answer you chose above, the best chance of success?
All American hot dogs and beer would be appropriate for the occasion. The enthusiastic crowds would love it.
Call RINO’s as well. They’re as disgusting as Liberals.
It is now abundantly clear why the Democrat leadership in Congress has been holding hostage the critical funding that our troops need for body armor and weaponry they simply do not believe our military can win, and they are no longer willing to stand behind them. I think that is both wrong and irresponsible.
The Senate Democrat Leader is certainly entitled to his opinion, but his public lack of confidence in our troops is an insult to their deep sacrifice and a sign of encouragement to our terrorist enemies. You cannot negotiate diplomatically with homicide bombers who kill innocent men, women and children. You cannot say you support our troops, but you dont support their mission and youre not willing to give them the funds they so urgently need.
The Democrat Leaders comments today are deeply disappointing and are a disservice to the incredible sacrifice of the men and women in Americas military.
actually on the funding bill the entire GOP caucus in both chambers is surprisingly unified because they know the RATS are playing politics and that the timetables are a clear infringement on the Article II powers of the CIC
SURRENDER IN IRAQ DAY
Washington, Apr 20 - Mr. Speaker, in World War I, the U.S. and Allied victory was called Armistice Day. In World War II, it was called VE Day, Victory in Europe, and VJ Day, Victory over Japan. Now, this Congress has already proclaimed SI Day, Surrender in Iraq Day.
By proclaiming a day to the world that we plan to ``get out of Dodge,'' no matter the situation, no matter the consequences, because some lack the moral will to win defies commonsense and basic military logic. You never tell the enemy that you will retreat, much less give them the day, month and year.
I am sure that in the rat holes of Iraq where the cowardly enemy hide there is joy and laughter. Congress knows as much about running the details of a military operation as FEMA does about disasters.
Let the generals finish America's duty. We have the duty to give them the tools, weapons, money and the troops to take care of business.
General Stonewall Jackson allegedly faced the same complaints from the Confederate Congress and reportedly responded: ``Send more troops, not more questions.''
We cannot retreat and allow Surrender in Iraq Day to become part of our history.
“I’m not going to get into a name-calling match with somebody who has a 9 percent approval rating...
I beleive the only people in Washington who have a lower approval rating than the President are......
I think the delay of the supplemental would be monumental bad judgment Its sort of like watching a person freezing to death the last thing that shuts down is blood flow to the brain . Were going to fund that war and it, Congress, unless they actually pull the plug on the war, will have no impact on whether we buy ammunition or care for our wounded that will happen. What will happen is we turn off every other program [they] will start to atrophy and suffocate. Once we start that process, backing out of it will screw us up for two years. Political argument, I cannot imagine why the loyal opposition to the government would want to buy responsibility for the war in Iraq. I do personally think you got to make a political statement of opposition to the war in Iraq then give the Commander-in-Chief the tools he needs to fight in the short run. The supplemental — I sure hope we pass that or there are going to be real consequences over at the Defense Department.
Did the masses shout for Poe’s remarks to be “taken down”?
Big Time! Bump
I really liked your question so I took you up on your offer. I did call Senator Reid’s Office.
I was told that Harry Reid DID NOT SAY we have lost this war and that he did not say the war is lost.
I was told he said that we WILL lose this war if we continue on President Bush’s path.
I then pressed the very question you asked. The first response was the above, what came next was, among fumbling, one of the most shameful things I have ever heard.
After several blah blah non answers and spin like mentioned above I took the fella’s word I was talking to ( knwoing full well what Senator Reid had said) and I asked the question this way “IF we lose the war becasue we stay on President Bush’s course, then WHO WINS?”
First I hear “ I am not going to speak to for Senator Reid” then I said “well isn’t that the point of this phone line....to gain aswers to these questions?”
I then said something like “If we lose for whatever reason, then who wins?”
And the dude said “I DON’T KNOW”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I asked if that meant Harry Reid doesn’t know who we are fighting.......his answer back was, Sir I have to take the next caller.......
I told him that as an American citizen I deserve better than this from the Leader of the Senate, we all deserve better.
EVERYONE should spend a few dimes or even a few dollars calling his office and asking this question. Any REAL journalists out there should ask it as well.
Oh yeah, I kind of touched on that a bit when I said that when in front of the cameras Harry Reid should tell us all who wins if we lose.
I love that poster! Where was that picture taken?
I LOVE CHENEY!!
I just talked to Dingy Reid’s Office and was told that because I was not a Nevadan my comments were not going to be addressed. I asked if Reid was not representating the United States as My Senate Leader? No Answer.
As a Disabled Vet I asked Sen. Reid to apologize to the troops and resign his leadership for his TRAITOROUS remarks by giving aid and comfort to the enemy.
Reply, ...thany you for calling and sign up to our website.
Reid is already starting to whine, you know that all he sees is "approval ratings" and the image, "attack dog."
I don't think Reid has a clue , that this is about policy, and the protection of America and her national interests. The way Reid responds, he hasn't got a clue about the real issues here.
That means that Reid is history. He has seen his last term in the Senate.
Reid should resign right now!
Australia. I saw it and knew it was a keeper. :-)
It figures. I have never been to Australia, but I love their PM, and, I suspect that I would love the people.
I think they and the old Eastern Block countries are the most pro US outside of maybe India.
