Don’t know how familiar you are with the Gospel, but one wonderful and practical way for Christians to spread it is to move into these neighborhoods, in droves, and start pouring value into the community. Not spending for themselves, but giving and volunteering and meeting the community’s needs. Heck, makes me think about retiring in one of these places, one day long from now.

Rosa Parks moved out of Detroit after a punk broke into her home and beat the crap out of her. IIRC she ‘was’ a Christian (she passed on). The dirtbag didn’t care that she was an old black Christian woman.
If you are certain The LORD is calling you to be a missionary in the Motor City then you should go for it. You should first pray long and hard and make sure the calling is from God and not from your own ideas and desires.
