Mr. Broder Goes to Washington ...(50 Democratic senators attack Washington press corps)
New York Sun ^ | May 2, 2007 | Editorial

So the entire Democratic caucus in the United States Senate — 50 senators — has sent a letter to the Washington Post attacking the dean of the Washington press corps, David Broder, for a column in which Mr. Broder dared to criticize their leader for his preemptive surrender to the terrorists in Iraq. "We, the members of the Senate Democratic Caucus, contest the attack on Sen. Harry Reid's leadership by David S. Broder in his April 26 column," the letter says. "In contrast to Mr. Broder's insinuations, we believe Mr. Reid is an extraordinary leader who has effectively guided the new Democratic majority through these first few months with skill and aplomb."

Mr. Broder's offense? The Pulitzer-prize winning columnist and reporter, 77, wrote a column criticizing the Democratic leader in the Senate, Mr. Reid, for Mr. Reid's comment that the Iraq war "is lost." Mr. Reid, Mr. Broder wrote "is assuredly not a man who misses many opportunities to put his foot in his mouth. In 2005, he attacked Alan Greenspan, then chairman of the Federal Reserve Board, as ‘one of the biggest political hacks we have here in Washington.'" Wrote Mr. Broder, " Reid's verbal wanderings on the war in Iraq are consequential — not just for his party and the Senate but for the more important question of what happens to U.S. policy in that violent country and to the men and women whose lives are at stake." The New York Sun publishes the column today on the adjacent page.

For this Mr. Broder won a rebuke not only from the senators but from the New York Times's Frank Rich, who ridiculed Mr. Broder in his column Sunday and who defended as "obvious" Mr. Reid's assessment that the war is lost.

If I were Broder, that letter would only make me more determined to attack that bunch of stuffed shirts.

Broder has raised his and the MSM a notch upward and in consequence has brought the “Rats” out of their holes. Lets hope that Mr. Broder will continue his enlightened reporting.

I guess Mr Broder did not understand the principle of walking in lock step, even if the party is a bunch of lemmings headed over a defeatist cliff?

As of now, Broder is pretty much alone... the rest of the DBM couldn't’t care less. Look for Broder to be shunned by his cronies/DNC contacts if he continues in this venue.

These are the same turkeys who will scream and cry that conservatives are squelching freedom and threatening the constitution. I guess it depends on how you look at “freedom of speech and press”. Dems have it, no one else is allowed!

The part I'm not looking forward to is the inaction of the rest of the media as the political left lynch one of their own for stepping out of line.

Frank Rich - wow, a Broadway theater critic gives his opinion on a war fought by grown-ups.

Maybe he should stick to reviewing "Rent", and "The Vagina Monologues", and let the adults worry about his safety.

Thank you Mr. Broder! You have helped America to see the horrific effects that RCI (Rectal Cranial Inversion) has had on 50 senators that have put their signature to this letter condemning you. Perhaps the citizens of the USA will see the terrible effects of this disease and what it can do when it goes undetected for years. 51 senators suffering from RCI!! Oh the humanity.

Well now Broder has been attacked by that well-known expert on foreign policy at the NYT, Frank Rich, who is also an all-around genius on everything. So therefore Broder must definitely be wrong about Reid. Rich’s qualifications for commenting about foreign and domestic policy was that he was the theater critic for the Slimes for many years.
