Carter seeks to split Evangelicals from Israel support
American Thinker ^ | May 10, 2007 | Ed Lasky

Posted on 05/10/2007 1:33:20 PM PDT by West Coast Conservative

Former President Jimmy Carter recently has stepped up his efforts to split the bonds between Evangelical voters and Israel. From The Jewish Week:

Wading into the delicate fray over the alliance between Jews and pro-Israel Evangelicals, former President Jimmy Carter last week reportedly said it was a mistake for Jews to accept such ties, and that he was working to convince Southern Baptists to change the way they look at Judaism and the Middle East.

Christian Zionists can be better friends of Israel by challenging its government's policies, while accepting Judaism as a legitimate path to God, Carter told a group organized by Rabbi Michael Lerner in California last week, according to the rabbi.

"He said it was a terrible error for Jews to become allied with Christian Zionists who actually desire our conversion or burning in hell," Rabbi Lerner related in an interview Tuesday.

The alliance between Jewish and Evangelical Christian supporters of Israel has grown over the years. Evangelical support for Israel is often misunderstood and in some cases maligned-it comes often from the most noble of reasons. Regardless of one's views, this support has been very important.

The International Fellowship of Christian and Jews, headed by Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein, has been in the forefront of building these links and raises many millions of dollars from Evangelical Christians to help Jews around the world who are in need. Christians United for Israel has become a politically influential voice for Israel around the nation. In an era during which Israel has lost support in many quarters, this support from Evangelical Christians should be welcomed. Yet, there are forces developing that are not attempting to erode this support. I wrote about this dynamic earlier in this article, "Splitting the Evanngelicals from Israel".

I no longer believe that Jimmy Carter is a Christian. I always found it hard to swallow, but now I believe his true religion is socialism, which, by it’s nature, is anti-Christian. I’m not sure where he will spend eternity, but that moment can’t come too soon for me. (I will probably have to repent for saying that, but it’s how I feel.)

The person who will “burn in Hell” is ol Jimmah for maligning Israel and for losing Iran to the wackos.

Smart Evangelicals will tell Carter to go pound sand.

Sadly, some so called Evangelicals are slowly drinking the Kool Aid being served up by the Carter’s of the world.

I didn’t say that it was but factually we the U.S. are the only nation that truly supports Israel in current times.

Zech 14:2 I will gather all the nations to Jerusalem to fight against it; the city will be captured, the houses ransacked, and the women raped.

The key word in this is ALL we are a nation and when we turn on Israel and fight against it will fulfill the prophecy.

So in fact Mr. Jimmy Carter is attempting to make the U.S. turn against our friend Israel.

Hmmm. Carter should join the Birch Society. They're trying to replace Zionist Fundamentalism with an anti-Israel, Rushdoonian post-millenial dominionism. And besides, they're trying to bring Charles Lindbergh back to life.

I'm sure Gary North would be glad to put all his disagreements with Carter on hold for the sake of this most important issue.

Wait a minute--is Carter telling Evangelicals that Israel is bad, or telling Jews that Evangelicals are bad, or both?

If that's what Jimmuh Kkkarter is up to, then he belongs to that quite small gang of quasi-Christians who believe in word magic as well as the idea that Judgment Day can be advanced as a consequence of human acts.

Ahmanutjob, the current spokesman for the Iranian government also believes that nonsense.

Somebody ought to check out Jimmuh's association with fringe Moslem groups.

The position of the Moderates was that the Inerrantists were trying to promote a hierarchy or impose a formulaic doctrine on Baptists. This, as you know, for a denomination that emphasizes “the priesthood of the believer” and has local congregational control, is a big no-no.

However, the local churches own their own property, and, unlike what we are seeing in the Episcopal church, don’t have to sign over their assets if there is a doctrinal dispute with anybody - SBC or CBF.

I’m not taking up for the SBC in this debate. It is no surprise to me that all this drama came about within a few years of the attempt by the SBC a few years ago to evangelize the entire world and get the gospel to everybody. No sooner than that started, and here comes the controversy. I’m no theologian, but I know who was behind this (”Could it be SATAN?”, he said through pursed lips. YES!)

I wish I could find a Baptist church that preaches God’s Word, uses the Baptist Hymnal not PowerPoint, and has a pipe organ. I’d join in a heartbeat.

I understand, and I understand the “priesthood of the believer” and local church autonomy, and the other historic Baptist distinctives (I am teaching a series on the distinctives even currently), but I will say this for anyone who might be reading this. The distinctives mean absolutely nothing without a Scriptural base, and if there is no inerrant Bible, then we’re all just full of men’s traditions and opinions, anyway, and we are doomed and are of all men most miserable. But I take it that you agree with that.

Concerning property: I am close friends with several men who have had to battle the SBC over property when the churches decided to remove themselves from SBC rolls. Seems that many years prior, there was financial assistance in the building of facilities, but that all debts had been paid by the local churches. Evidently, titles had not been cleared up, and the SBC tried to keep the properties when the churches wanted to leave the fold. Those several cases have all been resolved in favor of the local churches involved, but SBC big boys did try to use intimidation and threat of loss of property when the churches wanted to have their names removed.
