I have never read a Neal Boortz column before, and I don’t expect to read one again. Opie and Anthony are in poor taste, but so what? poor taste is not against the law. I don’t have satellite radio, but if I did, no one’s forcing me to listen to these guys. How dare Neal Bootz dictate what I should be listening to? It’s my choice.
HR 3302 bears reading. It’s a real threat.
You must be suffering from oxygen depravation since your head is so far up your @$$.
Nobody is “dictating” what you should be listening to. If HR3302 passes, somebody will.
You sound like you are on cloud 9
Haven’t been listening to as much AM lately. Is anyone speaking about this Bill on the airwaves.
They don’t expect Bush to sign it....before 2008?
First tell us what is and isn't allowed on private channels, then explain what arguments one can(n't) make in defense of it.
Someone is easily threatened.... a bit th-en-th-itive even.
A true libertarian would believe that the satellite radio listeners have the right to petition the owners to fire hosts, and that the hosts have private property rights to fire whomever they please, including Opie and Anthoney.
The exercising of a right does not make one a libertarian.
I was just pointing out the lack of logic in your position. The fact that Boortz wants somebody fired does not mean that he is not a libertarian.
Before I respond, please go back, read my post again, and reformulate your comment. I didn’t say that the exercising of a right makes you a libertairan.
No, but this silly rant shows that he probably doesn’t have very good judgement in other areas as well. Witness his sucking up, if you’ll pardon the pun, to fudge packers. I don’t listen to either him OR O & A.
The Founding Fathers were more than happy to settle affronts with pistols at 20 paces.
Boortz does’nt get it.
Free speech includes speech you don’t like.
Beyond that XM is NOT radio. It’s subscription based content, and they play by the rules that HBO does. If Bill Maher can spew the lies and filth he and his guests do, then O&A are golden, period.
However, this bill DOES need to be squashed and fast. Radio and the media are giving in to the likes of Jesse and Al, and it’s corruptiing the very spirit of our constitution and our civil rights. Another show on Free FM was fired recently for making a joke about asian drivers, despite asian listeners calling in and saying they thought it was funny. Larry the Cable Guy was on the O&A Free FM portion of the show and they are dumping out of any hint of “racial” humor for even HIM. Free FM (CBS) and the rest of the media are censoring beyond what the law dictates, and are acting like fascists when it comes to free speech - and the most disgusting thing is, they are only doing it to appease sponsors who *might* pull out of a show, *if* a minority group might complain.
Censorship for the corporate dollars.
It’s disgusting. I’m embarassed to live in this country. For all of the bleating about the black lists of the past, the libs right now are going past what they term “Mcarthyism” and treading firmly on fascist territory in terms of how heavy handed they are getting with restrint people’s speech - and it’s all for a few dollars more.
It’s GOT to be stopped, it’s madness. The media in this country has lost it’s mind, it started with Imus, and I do NOT want to know where it ends.
I agree with you. Just because we have free speech, it does not mean you can just say what pops into your mind. It would be alot better if people would engage their brain first before they open their mouth
Since broadcasters like Limbaugh and Hannity frequently put callers on the air who disagree with them, I'd like to see what would happen if someone tried to enforce this. Maybe Mark levin would have to do the 'Liberal Mark Levin' show once a week.
NPR, on the other hand, might actually get called on the carpet for being an endless, taxpayer funded source of liberal bs.
Yeah, that'll happen . . .
Boortz is an ASS.
He clearly didn’t listen to the content, nor does he understand how it came about. Further, he doesn’t realize that the XM show is a payperlisten. He’s being a schmekle to get press. Stop it. Dummy, they’ve got you on the list too.
I listened to this on the afternoon Replay on XM. O&A had this homeless guy in studio, he was ranting about this, that and the other thing, it was funny, not because I agree with what he said, but because the guy is so blatantly insane. You were laughing that a human being held these views, including robbing old ladies for beer money, not condoning it.
Get O&A fired so congress isn’t tempted to limit all radio shows. Seems back Asswards to me.
The problem is not these two guys. The problem is that thousands believe they are entertaining. That this sort of thing is funny.
This sort of stuff only appeals to the idiot sector.
Exactly. XM's only responsibility is to make money. That's what Capitalism is all about.
Yeah, WTF is Neal Boortz anyway. I find that whenever some guy is complaining like this, he’s usually just another media whore looking for attention, like Catholic League’s Bill Donohue.
You apparently did not read this one, either, or at least you did not comprehend it.
Boortz did not claim that anything these buffoons said or did is against the law. He plainly and correctly said that the First Amendment applies if the government tries to control speech. He urged a private entity to be responsible and control the content it puts on its airwaves.
What is the greater outrage -- to demand someone be fired or to joke about a woman being raped?
Fire Opie and Anthony. Don't fine them. Don't throw them in jail. Just fire them.
And if XM doesn't, cancel your subscriptions.
Well, Neal, it was YOU who wanted to teach Republicans a lesson in 2006. It was YOU who urged your listeners to teach Republicans a lesson in 2006. It was YOU who gloated after the election about how you helped teach Republicans a lesson!
How is it working out now?
I’ll (and I hope a lot of my friends) never subscribe to the satelite radio at all. And that’s my right.
Boortz does get it. Free speech means government can’t censor what you say, even if nobody likes it. Of course, we don’t HAVE that today, Government stops you from saying all sorts of things that people on the left don’t like. People have been arrested for wearing shirts that say that Gay people are not normal.
However, Free Speech doesn’t mean we have to pay for it, or support it, or not rise up against it. In fact, Free Speech works because we are WILLING to rise up to denounce evil when it is spoken.
Two white guys and a homeless man are getting paid by thousands of subscribers to take glee in beating and raping a black woman. They talk about how it will hurt her, they say they should punch her in the face.
I am “shocked” (sarcasm) that none of the great “emperors of black people” have said that white men shouldn’t be joking about raping black women.
Neal said that people who are paying these guy’s salary should stop doing so. I don’t pay the KKK to spew their hatred, I don’t pay Al Sharpton, I don’t pay hatemongers. That’s no censorship, that’s common sense.
Neal is calling on people to stop paying the salary for these evil men. We should stop supporting XM, we should stop supporting advertisers, if we think that these men have crossed a line.
The sad thing is how many conservatives and libertarians no longer think there is a line to be crossed.
The press NOT covering this story is more of bias by omission. They didn't see it, it didn't happen.
It seems you flatter yourself by blind eye towards depravity
Also, they DO appear on some regular stations, just not this part of the show.
Get rid of them --- before their virus spreads.
I couldn't agree more.
I called and talked to the CEO of XM Radio and he stated that Opie and Anthony issued an Apology. So far I have not seen the news reported. Can anyone confirm?
You know, I completely forgot that they have a syndicated terrestrial show that precedes the XM one. I have even heard it a couple of times in my market.

These guys are FANTASTIC by the way, even if this stunt/bit was in poor taste
> You must be suffering from oxygen depravation since your head is so far up your @$$.
Easy there, cowboy. May I suggest a decaf?
> Nobody is “dictating” what you should be listening to. If HR3302 passes, somebody will.
Neal Boorts is. If HR3302 abridges the right of free speech, then it is too.
> Got it?
Boortz was upset when O’Reilly did it to him but Neal’s happily doing it to O&A.
I didn’t want Neal fired for his crass stupid comments about VA but apparently Neal thinks a crazy homeless guy ought not be given that same leeway.
Precisely and exactly.
XM is providing content people PAY TO LISTEN TO.
Legislation won't change the fact that these idiots get paid to be idiots.
If you are outraged, cancel your XM subscription.
> You sound like you are on cloud 9
Not sure what you mean. Opie and Anthony are certainly disgusting and I don’t listen to them. You can if you want to; it’s none of my business. That’s not outlandish; it’s freedom.
... just as long as it’s not your mother they’re graphically talking about sodomizing, right?
It wasn't THEM talking about it. It was an insane homeless man.
So, what if at 9 a.m. everyday - seven days a week - 52 weeks a year - Opie and Anthony had a guest on to graphically describe sodomizing your wife, mother, daughter, etc.? Not just any one. YOUR loved one. Seven days a week. What’s your opinion on “free” speech? What if they took out a billboard in your community and printed the same for everyone to see on the way to work? What would your opinion be of free speech as your family honor is desecrated for the purpose of “entertainment”? Shrug your shoulders? Oh well? It’s their right?
I’m just curious if your idea of free speech only applies to people you don’t know...
> Its GOT to be stopped, its madness. The media in this country has lost its mind, it started with Imus, and I do NOT want to know where it ends.
If Imus had stuck to his guns instead of groveling, he’d have dealt the first major blow to political correctness and that demagogue Sharpton. Not that I’m defending Imus...
How will this bill, if it’s passed, impose censorship on talk radio?
Is Boortz insane? He’s going down the Reverend Al route- wanting radio hosts fired because his feelings were hurt. Whining little crybaby...
