"Many Senators are telling staffers and other Senators that they are inclined to vote for the giant Kennedy/Bush amnesty bill (S. 1348) next week because they say they have been surprised at how few phone calls of protest they've gotten during the last two months of highly-publicized negotiations to create the amnesty. .

They are concluding that the citizens of their states just aren't all that worked up about granting an amnesty. And they're interpreting that as a green light to give corporations the huge new supplies of legal foreign labor they desire. .

These are Senators who have voted against amnesty in the past..

Brain-dead Idiots!

Once we give the Illegal labor work force their Citizenship, who will take their place? Duh...

They're a bunch of LIARS when they say they aren't hearing from the American peope about this..Unless the only thing they can understand is a phone call?!!

I agree a telephone call is the best approach at this stage since a letter would take too long.

Why are our politicians in such a frenzied obsession to grant amnesty that is so detrimental to our country? Is it because:
*They are bribed/blackmailed?
*They have infiltrated our government on behalf of foreign interests?
*They are delusional or suffer from other mental problems?
*They hate this country.
*They are fanatics for One World.

There are not a single legitimate reason to support amnesty. I know many legal immigrants who went through the system. Why should illegal immigrants - those who demonstrate a willingness to break laws - be given special admission? It sure helps admission to terrorists, the insane, and dangerous criminals who might otherwise be rejected. The message of amnesty is: break the laws and you will be rewarded.

Unlike other visa programs or legal immigration policies?
***Red Herring.

Do you disagree with the program itself or how it is administered?
***The program itself was intended to bring in the best & brightest technogeeks that we don’t have here in the U.S. That in itself suggests that no one should be coming here without a PhD. The way the program is being administered is that it’s a way to lower the wages for IT workers and other tech types. Very, Very few of the people who come here within the H1B program have degrees or knowledge that other americans don’t have; they simply are willing to work at a cheaper wage for 6 years in the hopes of obtaining a green card. It’s fraudulent.

The Reps had control of the House for 12 years. They bear some of the reponsibility for the sad state of our immigration policy and the lack of enforcement of the laws on the books.
***I agree.

What agenda are you talking about?
***Whatever your agenda is that makes you swallow a camel while straining at a gnat. You overlook Hunter’s top-notch credentials for battling illegal immigration while coming up with some nonsense about the minute details of some legal immigration policies that could use some cleaning up as well.

Reforming our legal immigration laws?
***Nope. Note that this is a question intended to draw away from the issue at hand, therefore it is a hidden straw argument.

Securing our borders?
***Nope. Again this is a question intended to draw away from the issue at hand, therefore it is a hidden straw argument.

Having a system that brings in immigrants we need in terms of skills and talents rather than the current chain migration laws and self-selected immigrants who enter our country illegally?
***Nope. Again this is a question intended to draw away from the issue at hand, therefore it is a hidden straw argument. We don’t need 90-95% of those H1B visas, and if companies were forced to pay market wage for those people, the program would wither on the vine.

What is your agenda?
***You have no reason to ask. You keep trying to veer away from the fact that your agenda has been spotlighted by your contorted perspective which causes you to focus on smaller issues while ignoring bigger issues.

Even after 9/11 and the recent arrests of Albanian terrorists, these corrupt Senators pretend that illegal aliens are no danger. They know that the voters are against it. Yet their agenda appears to be to harm this country even if it costs them votes.

Spirit....I’ve never seen it either and am wondering why not? I have paid close attention to everything having to do with illegal immigration/amnesty...but never came across your thread and would have actively participated, had I known!! I just can’t believe that something this important was posted back at the end of March for April activity and I ‘missed’ it!

I'm wondering if the way to fight this is from the left. Say you have two Rat senators, and a flaming liberal Rat house member, of course, they will ignore any message in any form that uses the word, "amnesty".

What if you try to persuade them that the fines are just too much? What if they poison the bill with diluted fines, penalties, etc. SO much, that even the RINOs cannot support it?

Anybody have the ability to put their moonbat hat on, and come up with a list of five or six poison pills for Blue State Freepers to write to their Rat representatives about?

Just last week, ICE arrested 12 Illegal Aliens working for a Contractor on Camp Robinson (National Guard), in North Little Rock Arkansas.

They are in the process of being deported.

We were fortunate they weren't the Terrorists Bush is warning us about.

Bush must think the Illegals coming in from Mexico are all Saints, since he's working so hard to give them amnesty.

DO NOT JUST SEND EMAILS TO YOUR CONGRESSMAN OR SENATOR. For the most part they get deleted as spam and don't have much impact. It also shows a lack of commitment and that you are lazy. INSTEAD INVEST IN POSTAGE STAMPS. There is nothing more impressive than postal service trucks showing up at congress with bags full of envelopes with paper mail.

Given the security measures implemented since the Anthrax letter attacks of 2001, the first of these mailings should start landing on Senators' desks sometime AFTER the amnesty vote goes down. Send postcards instead.

remember the last amnesty in 1984? I do.

I only vaguely remember the amnesty, mainly because I was in college being young and stooopid. However, I have found out since that the amnesty actually took place in 1986.

Here ya go a little history per Michelle Malkin:

There have been seven illegal alien amnesties passed into law since 1986:

·The 1986 Immigration and Reform Control Act blanket amnesty for an estimated 2.7 million illegal aliens

·1994: The “Section 245(i)” temporary rolling amnesty for 578,000 illegal aliens

·1997: Extension of the Section 245(i) amnesty

·1997: The Nicaraguan Adjustment and Central American Relief Act for nearly one million illegal aliens from Central America

·1998: The Haitian Refugee Immigration Fairness Act amnesty for 125,000 illegal aliens from Haiti

·2000: Extension of amnesty for some 400,000 illegal aliens who claimed eligibility under the 1986 act

·2000: The Legal Immigration Family Equity Act, which included a restoration of the rolling Section 245(i) amnesty for 900,000 illegal aliens]

Guess what? None –not one—of those amnesties was associated with a decline in illegal immigration. On the contrary, the number of illegal aliens in the U.S. has tripled since President Reagan signed the first amnesty in 1986. The total effect of the amnesties was even larger because relatives later joined amnesty recipients, and this number was multiplied by an unknown number of children born to amnesty recipients who then acquired automatic US citizenship.

And as I’ve noted before, there is no such thing as a “temporary” amnesty.

I refuse to give up. I will not willingly go to slaughter. I feel like cornered animal with little choice left but to fight. Otherwise we will be acting like those who without hope walked into the gas chambers without a struggle. We need to teach those in power that a cornered animal is the most dangerous. If we are to be defeated, let us to it with dignity.

I close with a quote from an old Roman tomb:

Meqlio vivere un giorno di leone, che cento anni di pecora.

Better to live a day as a lion, than a hundred years as a lamb.

Thank you for the ping, PTD. I missed Ted Kennedy’s press conference but I know anything he says is likely not something I want to hear. The fact that the Senators had to work this out in secret meetings is indicative that the result is not something Americans will readily accept.

The Administration keeps saying their comprehensive plan does not involve amnesty; then they proceed to define amnesty in such a way as to support what they say. We all have a sense of whether or not these illegal aliens are being offered a form of amnesty, and I think most of us on the right agree that they are.

Further, it is never explained why these immigrants can not be offered a pathway to legal work status (permits) instead of making it a pathway to citizenship. Giving citizenship to illegals is like giving Sandy Burglar a misdemeanor for stealing and destroying highly classified secrets. Wait, this bunch did do that, didn’t they.

Make those calls and write those letters!

Thank you for posting this and for your long record of active service on behalf of Conservatism.

I just saw Pres. Bush on TV say this approach will deal with immigration "without amnesty and without animosity". Cute words that show deference to the illegals and none to those of us who are legal citizens. It totally ignores that this is an effort to stuff an unpopular program down the throats of the American people. If you add the total popularity of this Congress with this President, you barely get 50%. With that lack of support these two groups are going to try and enact a law that will dramatically alter the culture of the United States.

Please let your Senators and Representative know what you think of this effort.

True enough, but it is part of a package. I also mentioned phone calls. The fact is that stamped letters they get now is a trickle. When they start getting flooded they will know that something is up.

You are right about letters instead of calls. Post cards are good because everyone can read them. Did you hear about that brick campaign last year? That got the attention of several congressmen.
