Detroit council urges Bush impeachment
The Detroit City Council called for the impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney, unanimously passing a resolution sponsored by a Democratic congressman's wife.
The nonbinding resolution, approved Wednesday, says Bush and Cheney conspired to defraud the United States by "intentionally misleading Congress and the public regarding the threat from Iraq in order to justify the war."
It was sponsored by Councilwoman Monica Conyers. Her husband, U.S. Rep. John Conyers (news, bio, voting record), is chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, where any impeachment proceedings would start. He has said he does not intend to move forward with any impeachment effort.

Hasn't the name "Monica" suffered enough damage already?
Detroit, the capital of affordable housing.
Next important issue on the City’s agenda; banning trans-fat.
You would think they would have more important things to do. They really should work on local issues, after all isn’t that why they were elected?
And if any city knows FRAUD, it’s Detroit!
Thank GOD I live in Kentucky now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Conyers needs to check into a rest home and get out of our lives. What a useless victim-monger.
Can anything good come from Detroit?..
I thought Detroit was a muzzie town now.
I live in the area so I don’t mind saying that Detroit is THE butt-hole of this country. The idiots in charge HERE ought to be the ones held accountable and gotten rid of.
Disgusting. Detroit has enough problems, Monica Conyers being one example.
What is your take on the ever-growing muslim population and influence in the city?
Who cares what small town America thinks?
Conyers should retire to a shelter for the rest of OUR lives.
Their City politicians might try to address their own local agenda rather than illegally telling the Federal Government what to do or proposing impeachment proceedings.
Conyers is close to committing treason and a proposal to try and execute him is overdue.
The city hasn’t crumbled yet. It should though after the President and Vice-President slap a massive law suit on them for falsifying records.
The Major (A Dem), last week at least proposed 25 Charter Schools only to have the Unions say no.
This is after a businessman (Mr Thompson if my memory is correct) some 4 or 5 years ago was willing to donate 100 million to build a bunch of Charter Schools and the Teachers held a rallye against his potential donation in Lansing. After that he took it off the table.
That rallye caused one liberal Detroit Teacher I know to change party affiliations, become a conservative and then left the Detroit School System.
It is my opinion the any governmental body that passes a non-binding resolution is guilty of misconduct by accepting a salary for work not related to their specific job responsibilities.
You may want to join these left wing lunatics since you too are calling for President Bush impeachment.
I packed up the family and moved an hour and 1/2 north 3 years ago. We’re STILL too close for me. My old neighborhood in nearby Warren, MI is LOADED with muzzies now.
I used to like the Beer??? Conyers is a peach of
a nitwit....I have a peach for him to hang on to? JK
Why did you single me out jerkoff? Many here are calling for impeachment. I’d take it a step further and call for the removal of all of these traitors, both sides of the isle, top to bottom. Try and keep your flaming botism under control. Blackbird.
Was every westwern intel agency in also lying when they agreed with the CIA assessment?
Damn fools have a political lust for getting Bush disgraced even though he was trying to do the right thing.
My tagline still holds true.
I’m with ya. I’d call for impeachment too over giving away our country to invaders. It’s really his main job and he can’t even do that.
I just figured out why the wind always blows in Chicago.....it’s because Detroit sucks!!!
This is an unfortunate turn of events. Now, should articles of impeachment be brought, the chairman would have to recuse himself due to this clear conflict of interest.
Name the others on Free Republic who want to impeach President Bush and I will ping them next time to join the threads about left wing lunatics calling for the President impeachment.
I did! But seriously, the city is viewed as a laughing-stock and doesn't even know it. This is only making its image much worse.
Right up your alley! Ted says the water is warm, enjoy. Blackbird.
You are losing your mind hateful lunatic.
Detroit - run by liberal black people and messed up as hell.
Yes, lots of high-end suburbs. They boomed in growth after the riots.
Detroit was once America's 4th largest city approaching 2 million, now it doesn't even make the top ten.
Some of Detroit's 'burbs are among the wealthiest in the nation.
In what way shill? Come on over, Fat Ted bekons your support. Blackbird.
...ummmmmmm, give me a few minutes.
hateful lunatic? I’m proud to be a hateful lunatic right with you. Most Americans that love their country would justifiably be “hateful lunatics” over what this administration and the lackeys on the Hill have just done to this country.
I haven’t been in Detroit for....probably 60 years..
bit it had a big sucking sound then..can imagine it
has gotten a LOT MORE..WHOOOOOSH...JK
Bump for later.
“You would think they would have more important things to do. They really should work on local issues, after all isnt that why they were elected?”
YOU CAN SAY THAT AGAIN!!!
I wasn’t aware Bush held any office in Detroit... oh, wait, he doesn’t... I’ll bet this is more meaningless grandstanding from the usual Hallelujah Chorus, isn’t it?
I remember about a year or so ago on a private political discussion board I was blasting Detroit for its corruption and Stalinist rodent “leadership.” One of those Stalinist Detroit State Reps. saw my comments and decided to chime in, telling me how “wrong” I was and how the city had bounced back and was better than ever. A few weeks later, the Rep. was indicted for corruption.
Detroit is doing better than it was during the late 1980’s and 1990’s, but that isn’t much to brag about.
I’ve lived in the Detroit area, and it’s a hole. Seems like all of Michigan is a hole into which we pour money. Thanks especially to Stabenow, Levin, Granholm, and Conyers. I so wish I could leave.
I understand that Governor Granholm has become unpopular with Michigan voters. That could provide the GOP with an opening in 2008, if they choose a good candidate.
