ITS TO EAT!!!! MAZEL TOV! Well, that covers almost EVERY Jewish holiday. As Jackie Mason says, most Jewish Holidays are like this:
- An enemy tried to destroy the Jews.
- The enemy failed.
- Let's eat!
Shavuout is one of the few holidays where points one and two don't work. It's actually the giving of the 15 (er, 10! 10!) Commandments to the people of Israel.
Point 3, however, is still in play.

I owe a favor to a Jewish-convert friend—maybe this is an opportunity to buy her a Shavuot gift? She’s been Jewish a couple years now. Any suggestions?

Apparently this holiday ended Thursday evening at sunset, because an Orthodox Jewish friend of mine could not come to an evening dinner function until 9 PM on Thursday night, due to this holiday.
