Philadelphia - A travelling exhibition on King Tutankhamun drew about 50 protesters in Philadelphia who denounced the popular display as racist.
Molefi Asante, a professor of African-American studies at Temple University, led the demonstration on Sunday outside the Franklin Institute, claiming the exhibit has no mention of Africa and that it suggests the ancient Egyptian king was white.

You just used a racial slur. As someone of the "honkadelic" persuasion, I'm offended. Off to rehab with you!
Let’s get every leftist mad - portray the ancient Egyptians as eating endangered scarabs while watching re-runs of Amos & Andy on their SUV ibises.
Jew getta lion, n Ah’ll getta Pole, Hunny;
Jew getta lion, n Ah’ll getta Pole, baby;
Jew getta lion, n Ah’ll getta Pole,
N well go down tah de crahdad hole, hunny, baby mahn!
The Egyptians always expressed the low opinions they had of their defeated enemies with little reticence, the Nubians were no exception
They are not valiant men, they are miserable, both tails and bodies ; my majesty saw it myself, it is no fable

LOL! And southern Illinois is known as “Little Egypt” and is also home to Alexandria and Thebes...
Judging by the drawings, they look like dark brown blacks. The Bible rebukes the idea Mizraim is a white.
There's a wide variation in Africa, just as there is in Asia. You have the Israelis, the Saudis, etc occupying southwest Asia, and the Vietnamese, Chinese, Koreans, etc occupying eastern Asia, and they look fairly different as humans go.
But realistically, the people who live on the shores of the Mediterranean have much more in common with each other, culturally and genetically, than they do with people far removed from the Mediterranean
So, does this mean he's a right wing monarchist?
If you look at the drawings of the Egyptian women, they are much lighter than the men. The men are tanned from being in the sun more than the women
American blacks are various shades of brown because most American blacks have various percentages of European ancestry in their genetic lines
Molefi Asante, a professor of African-American studies at Temple University...At least a couple of things wrong in that sentence...

Gods, Graves, Glyphs (alpha order)
Time to call for Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, the ‘Justice Brothers”.
I'm sorry you can't use that word. You have to call the chigroes now.
“According to the drawings they made of themselves, they were White.”
Well, they must have been drawn by racist artists.
I don't know.
That mummy sure looks black to me!
Not all African blacks have extreme dark skin, flat broad noses and full lips. Anyway, didn’t King David call Egypt the land of Ham in Psalms?
Egyptian art wasn't concerned with accurate depiction of racial subtypes, they were meant to illustrate the glory and significant achievements of the pharaohs and their relationship to the gods.
Egyptian hierarchical art functions on the order /concept of group, not race or skin color.
In some cases, persons or gods / goddesses may be shown as green, blue, or yellow, indicating associations with the nile river, or the sun, respectively.
Likewise, gods and pharaohs were largest, goddesses and queens next in size, priests and warriors, commoners, slaves, etc...
Anyone that assumes skin color in egyptian art is an accurate representation of the figures or persons involved is greatly mistaken.
MOST blacks who are Egyptian in todays Egypt will tell you the same thing. King Tut was a black boy. Plus there is still an Upper and Lower Egypt. Upper is Sudan and lower is the Macedonian/Arabic Egypt. The Bible says Mizraim is the son of Ham. Mizraim in Hebrew means two nations.
I realize all that Black Athena business is plumes of Osiris -— i.e., bullfeathers.
Nevertheless, most scholars are satisfied that the great royal wife of Amenhotep III, Tiyi, was the grandmother of Tut.
And if you search for her image you will find she was obviously of Nubian, or Negro, or African, ancestry.
Wow, you mean these idiots do not understand that Egypt is part of AFRICA?
This is college?
King Tut was pre-Alexander
Yes, but Cleopatra wasn’t.........
Good catch... however, he may have called it that after one of Noah's sons (Shem, Ham, and Japheth).
If I remember my Bible, Ham was the one whose decendants build the tower of babel... and was cursed with some sort of sign by God for building it)
King Tut looked like (a very young) Barbra Streisand?..........
No wonder they had to get out of Egypt! It wasn't kosher!......
His nose is too small (someone had to say it... might as well be me).
Well, he was only 19 or 20 years old. Hadn't had time to fully ripen yet.........
Now I have to clean my monitor... coffee all over it!!! Great line... wished I'd thought of it (I'm sure I'll use it in the future)
Believe me - there is nothing on earth like a fat white Italian communist telling you what it truly means to be black. Nothing.
P.S.: I saw this Philadelphia show. It’s fabulous and I recommend it to everyone. Not as good as the Met’s show back in the 1970’s (the “mask” that the event is using in its publicity is not in the exhibition, but it’s very good, anyway.)
That's as likely a possibility as the other. After all, there are pyramids in Mexico. ;-)
any chance it'll come to Boise, Idaho? or anything will come to Boise, Idaho...
well teh Boise State Broncos beat the Oklahoma Sooners in the Fiesta Bowl... one of the best college bowl games ever... according to John Madden.
Sorry got sidetracked... what is the show you saw and where can a person see it?
Protest marching is their job. The question is who pays them?
Why not? Teh-ray-zah is African.
Thinking the same thing here. Most likely, like many countries on the continent of Africa and in the Middle East, natives came in every color from pale to blue-black.
And if there is no mention of Africa, that’s a little odd but not terribly significant, IMO. Guess they figured everyone already knew that..? I saw an exhibition at the Smithsonian years ago on Indian/Mayan/Aztec civilization and the Spanish conquest. They didn’t *SAY* the soldiers were from Spain..lol.
Come to think of it, they didn’t tell me the Mayans or Spaniard were black or brown or red either....
I guess facts just irritate some people.
An Egyptian display with *no mention of Africa*? Where’d this guy get his education?
Look closely at the Tut mask. Are you telling me that by modern defintion that that looks like a WHITE man.Tut’s mom,Tiy,was very defintely Negroid.Look at any busts of her.
The problem with the Afrocentrists is that they get the Egyptians often mixed up with”pure”Negroid types such as Nigerians or Liberians.By this defintion,Egypt can not be called”Black”.
Yet it certainly was not a “white”nation either but a polyglot of Caucasina,Negroid and Asiatic peoples who mingled for thousands of years.
Some Arabs ARE black,or at least have lots of black or Negroid blood.
Example-the current rulung military clique in The Sudan.Lighter than the darker skinned Southerners but still”black”as defined by American standards.
Wonderful line, Steve. And so true of liberals I've known. That kind seems to be drawn especially to the educational and "news" trades.
Shame on you!
Hey, if you’re still online, FReepmail me please?
I think he’s actually American born Arabic;
>>If a person doesnt know that Egypt is in Africa, then they need to go back to grade school.
Besides, who really cares what color they were?<<
Obviously, Prof. Asante cares - indeed, very much so.
It seems he and others are desperate to legitimize their own race. At least that is how I see it.

well duh.....Tut was Caucasoid.
guess they should thrown in some Nubes to soothe the brother’s beast
I damn sure do when they lie incessantly and work overtime in psuedoscience to try to disprove anything substantive that ever happened in the course of human history was White or European when in fact the opposite is more true than not.
