Associated Press Writer NEW YORK (AP) - Democrat John Edwards Wednesday repudiated the notion that there is a "global war on terror," calling it an ideological doctrine advanced by the Bush administration that has strained American military resources and emboldened terrorists.

In a defense policy speech he planned to deliver at the Council on Foreign Relations, Edwards called the war on terror a "bumper sticker" slogan Bush had used to justify everything from abuses at the Abu Ghraib prison to the invasion of Iraq.

"We need a post-Bush, post-9/11, post-Iraq military that is mission focused on protecting Americans from 21st century threats, not misused for discredited ideological purposes," Edwards said in remarks prepared for delivery. "By framing this as a war, we have walked right into the trap the terrorists have set—that we are engaged in some kind of clash of civilizations and a war on Islam."

Mr. Edwards does not appear to view our conflict with radical Islam as a military or even as a political struggle. I guess when you are a lawyer, all problems begin to look like cases and all solutions appear to look like the litigation process. That's why he wants to reorient the military back toward the sort of peace-keeping/problem-solving role ("International Meals-on-Wheels") that it had under Bill Clinton. And you all know how well that worked out.

We knew in 1991 that when we left Iraq without going on to Baghdad that, sooner or later, we’d be back, and it would be a lot worse. Now, in 2007, it’s the same, only it’s become global. If we leave the ME now, not under our conditions, sooner or later we’ll be back, and it will be an order of magnitude worse.

I am truly disturbed that the democrat party, and its propaganda arm the MSM (NYT, WaPo, CBS, NBC, ABC, NPR, et al) cannot see this. Or, even worse, it’s not that they cannot see it, it’s that politics are more important to the democrat party today than is our national security. Indeed, the freedom of the world at large from islamic domination is at risk.

In that context, it is logical to say that Edwards and with minor exceptions, the democrat party, constitute a clear and present danger to us all.

Granted W has made, and is making, some serious mistakes for our country, but terrorism and it’s goal of doing us in is not one of them. He may be using it to further his own globalist goals, but Muslim hatred of the West did not begin with GWB. It’s been going on for centuries. And I don’t see it going away any time soon, Mr. Edwards.

There was a documentary about 9/11 on the National Geographic channel a couple of evenings ago. I had not seen the images from that day anywhere on TV for so long that I was actually quite stunned to see them again.

Yeah, they don’t like to show them because it “might upset some viewers”. But they have no problem showing Al-Queda propaganda videos of them shooting or blowing our boys. It’s censorship by ommission. Terrible.
