Young Russian nationalist confesses to killing 37

14:40 | 28/ 05/ 2007

MOSCOW, May 28 (RIA Novosti) - A young nationalist suspected of killing an Armenian businessman confessed to killing 37 people together with his friend, a popular Russian daily said Monday.

Vremya Novostei reported that Artur Ryno, a student at an icon painting school, detained in mid-April on suspicion of killing Karen Abramyan, an Armenian, told investigators that he has "since school hated people from the Caucasus who come to Moscow, unite and oppress Russians," and added that he suddenly realized "the city needed to be cleaned."

Ryno said he and his friend Pavel Skachevsky, both aged 18, attacked and killed dark-skinned people in Moscow's suburbs. They did not confess to the Armenian's murder until a videotape from surveillance cameras installed at the building's entrance where Abramyan lived was shown to them.

Prosecutors said Ryno and Skachevsky were detained after an eyewitness called the police and said the two people who stabbed Abramyan 20 times escaped in a streetcar. Police stopped the streetcar and arrested the two students whose clothes and a knife found on them were covered in blood.

A police source said: "At first we doubted whether what Ryno said was true - he mentioned too many details and boasted about what he had done, but at the same time the dates and crime scenes named were not precise. But the investigations we have carried out confirm that everything he says is true." However, Ryno's accomplice, Skachevsky has denied attacking anyone.

Vremya Novostei wrote that the teenagers carried out their first killing August 21, 2006, which coincided with an explosion carried out by skinheads at Moscow's Cherkizovsky market, where many traders from the North Caucasus region, former Central Asian Soviet republics, as well as Vietnam and China worked. The explosion left 11 people dead and at least 49 injured.

Ryno said when they were attacking people, bystanders did not interfere, preferring to leave the crime scene as quickly as possible.

Routine attacks by skinheads and young gangs on foreigners and people with non-Slavic features have been reported across Russia in recent years. But authorities have been generally reluctant to treat the attacks as race-hate crimes, portraying them instead as acts of hooliganism.

The guys a serial killer, and a scum-bag, and should be executed, but how does labeling what he did a race-hate crime change any of that? The penalty for stabbing someone to death should be the same no matter how you label it.

“Ryno said when they were attacking people, bystanders did not interfere, preferring to leave the crime scene as quickly as possible.”

Sounds like Moscow needs some Grossman-style sheepdogs. Or is this a symptom of the repression that breeds apathy? I guess the two aren’t mutually exclusive...

You’re obviously an angry white male who is in dire need of diversity training. Me too. I wonder what enforcing the laws already on the books would do for our problems here in the US?

Thoughtful Memorial Day, everyone.

Colonel, USAFR

It is ironic since the original Nazis thought of the Russians as inferior people to be worked to death as slaves. You would think something like that would be discredited for all time but I guess stupid people like the criminals in this story just substitute who is the "master race" and who is "inferior." An "ideology" like that can provide thugs and serial killers with all sorts of rationalizations.

It was noted in the early 1980’s that Russians were beginning to blame their problems on certain despised ethnic minorities within the USSR. Any hatred for the U.S.A. was an acquired taste, and paled in comparison.

In today’s Russia, international communism is being gradually replaced by “National Bolshevism” (as in national socialism). Now, the black hammer and sickle inside a white circle on a red banner is seen as often as the traditional red flag.

Goes? More like GONE. The only difference between the two is the Nazis didn't pretend to return power to the masses anytime soon.

There has always been a strong resentment among ethnic Russians of the various foreigners who are in their midst. Back in the time of the USSR, the Communist leaders claimed to be “international,” and brought in African nationalists to be trained in ideology and trouble making. But Russian youts hated them, and sometimes killed them.

What these “skinheads” don’t realize is that their fellow ethnic Russians are aborting themselves into extinction. Instead of idling on the streets and going around stabbing people who are coming in to fill the vacuum caused by the birth dearth, they might do better to straighten out, go to work, have families, and raise children.

But Putin is doing nothing to move things in that direction. Rather the opposite. As Steyn points out, Russians are committing demographic suicide, and are well on their way to self destruction.

I highly doubt it. The russians hated the nazis as much as the vichi french loved them.

Putin is only good at cynical manipulation of human mind. Instilling family values? Not likely. It does not help that Russians took in a lot of toxic pollutants in their body over many decades. On top of that, there is booze problem.

Yes, Steyn says that the average Russian male dies at age 55. The country is sick, and Putin is leading the country in the wrong direction.

I think I read somewhere that Russia will have a muslim majority by 2015 (perhaps in Steyn’s book?)

The whole thing is a hoax. Today the prosecutors tell press that the investogation of those confessions doesn’t suport the factual base of the confessions.

Have you ever noticed that all former Eastern European nations and those of the FSU have experienced this? This form of ultranationalism was unnaturally oppressed by the communists. This was part of the theory of creating a "new man, free from the constraints of the past".

Unlike in Western Europe, countries within the Soviet sphere of power (either as republics or satellites, and, of course, the former Yugoslavia), never had the opportunity to confront and come to terms with nationalist tendencies. Hence, this is, unfortunately, a natural step of development, its manifestations more or less extreme in different countries.

I lived in the USSR in the early 1980's. I never noted this in the press, or among the populace.

There was resentment of "subsidizing" Eastern Europe and even worse, the "lazy Cubans".
