“IF Fred gets in, I will become a Fredneck.................”

I’ll work for him and support him and vote for him. I WILL NOT sell out to him like so many did to Bush only to get their collective teeth kicked in regularly.

AAAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!..............Not Newt!.....

For all the Newt-haters out there, I hope and pray that Newt joins Thompson as candidate for VPOTUS.

Besides the fact and truth that Newt is the most intelligent and visionary conservative we have, there is nothing I'd enjoy more than to see you folks get your knickers in a twist that Newt is on the ticket.

“Mitt and Fred in a debate? Cool! Looking forward to it!”

If that is what our ultimate choice comes down to, it’s win friggin’ win!

Because frankly, we’re about to quit. This president, and this party.

It's sad really.

Newt is the only guy out there who sees this, talks about it, and is completely PO'd about it.

Hillary/Obama will be the Dem two-fer ticket. Just wait.

So long as Al Gore chooses to wallow in his Google $$zillions$$ and cultivate his carbon credits RICO criminal enterprise.

If not, it'll be Gore/Obama.

Mr. Gingrich also has baggage from the “scandal” that forced him from office. You know his opponents will dredge that karp up again.

Yes, they will. That's why I'd rather see it dealt with in a Senate confirmation hearing as opposed to a general election.

I WILL NOT sell out to him like so many did to Bush

"We won't get fooled again!"

Funny (maybe sad) that a collection of Bushbots is still hanging around in certain threads, where any critique of GWB real or imagined is met with heavy retaliation.

I was trounced not too long ago ago for not saying "President Bush."

None of us are going to like everything about anyone running..A third party vote would only insure Hillary being the next POTUS..Remember that yahoo from Texas that gave us Bill (BJ) Clinton?? The three most important issues the next President will face is: Selecting two or more Supreme Court Justices, Immigration and holding the Dems in check on taxes..Thompson will do well on all three !!!

Countering his alleged lack of ambition is that Thompson will be outstanding on the bully-pulpit.

In the past 100 years, our country elected a republican former U.S. senator to be president once.

And George H.W. Bush was the first sitting Vice President to be elected President since Martin van Buren. Those trends last until they end.

The truth is more Presidents were not former governors than were. There are other factors which are far more important than a candidate's last political office.

If Tommy Thompson does poorly in the unofficial Iowa straw poll in August of this year, he will probably withdraw. If he does not win in the official caucus in January, he will withdraw, as Iowa has been the exclusive focus of his campaign.

I predict he will withdraw in August.

Intelligent? Without a doubt! But not politically astute.

What? You can't be serious. The guy who rose from high school teacher to Speaker Of The House isn't "politically astute?" The guy who commands a sizable percent in the Presidential polls without announcing his candidacy isn't "politically astute"? The guy who left his elected position nine years ago and who still has a serious following?

I guess I don't follow your logic.

who was it that said the the VP office wasn’t worth a bucket of warm s#!&?

Well, you're right about that, he isn't running for VP. I just wonder if he'd take it, if it was on the table. Thompson is adamant that he will not.

Again you exaggerate. Newt's consistent and written position is that we don't know enough about "global warming" to know what it is, let alone whether we "cause" it.

Check out this thread...

In a heavily hyped debate – one that environmentalist Democrats hoped would be a “smack down” on Republicans -- former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich disappointed them and conservatives alike when he declared that human activity was causing the Earth to warm.

The concession was made in a debate on global warming with Sen. John Kerry (D.-Mass.) today on Capitol Hill that was sponsored by the Brookings Institution and the RAND Corporation.

In his first portion of allotted time Gingrich said there were two undisputed areas of scientific consensus on global warming: that the earth is getting hotter and the warming had been caused by human activity.

At one point, Kerry asked Gingrich what he would say to conservatives like Sen. James Inhofe (R.-Okla.) who do not believe global warming is caused by human activity. Gingrich said, "The evidence is sufficient that we should move to the most effective possible steps to reduce carbon."

“We should be moving to develop all kinds of new green technology,” Gingrich said. He challenged Kerry to find market-based solutions to reduce carbon emission instead of increasing environmental regulations.

“Regulation and litigation are the least effective ways of getting solutions,” the former Speaker said. “Reshaping markets with incentives are the fastest way.”

As you can see, from the underlined portions, Gingrich accepted the two axioms of the Human Caused Global Warming argument, namely that warming exists and that it is caused by humans. He further parrots the line that debate is settled and we should move immediately to solutions.

After those statements, all of his arguments about market-based approaches and limiting regulation is just so much hot air (which will surely lead to greater global warming...). Like a good professor, Gingrich makes the point that if Human-Caused Global Warming exists, the best way to deal with it is through market methods. But he failed to say "if".

Once you accept the fiction of Human Caused Global Warming, you effectively hand the Lefties the hammer with which they can smash the economy and sieze control of the means of production.

This is a grave error. One that Newt cannot recover from, IMHO.
