President Bush used equally harsh language to assail his critics. "If you want to kill the bill, if you don't want to do what's right for America, you can pick one little aspect out of it. You can use it to frighten people,'' Bush said.

George. You and I have parted ways. You are an office holder, not my moral compass.

I want to kill the bill and have you damn functionaries go back to just enforcing and then funding what is already on the books.

Got it George? You had the choice between statesmanship and pandering and you choose pandering.

Bush’s immigration reform will be viewed the same way as Hillary’s health care reform. It’s going down in flames.

Proves the point that most of these guys live in a bubble. Something in the water up there transforms good people into DC elites.

Very scary how utterly detached from reality the political class is
Scary indeed. The current crop of Dems is bad enough, but the GOP isn't far behind. I truly fear for America.

Anger over immigration plan surprises GOP senators

Why?

Are their memories so short that they can't remember the uproar last session when they were pushing almost this same bill?

Maybe they should read their own bill. Then they might see what the general public is so upset about.

President Bush said the legislation puts enforcement first. "If you're serious about securing our borders, it makes sense to support legislation that makes enforcement our highest priority," Bush said Tuesday.

Well Mr President, just where is the enforecement in this bill? It says a fence will be built and security stepped up, subject to availability of funding. C'mon! It's an effing joke, and I can't for the life understand why the President is advocating a piece of legislation which will destroy the GOP as well as have far-reaching negative impacts on the nation as a whole.

Gawd-damn, this is the most desirable nation in the world in which to live, we have the luxury of being able to pick and choose our immigrants, and yet we are acting to legalize millions of day laborers. It defies reason.

“President Bush used equally harsh language to assail his critics. “If you want to kill the bill, if you don’t want to do what’s right for America, you can pick one little aspect out of it. You can use it to frighten people,’’ Bush said.”

“Do what’s right”

This is a guilt trip. Shame on you, Mr. President. You know your farce of an amnesty is under attack, and this is all you have to defend it. Have you no shame, no honor?

There is no “surprise” over the anger - that’s textbook CYA all the way. They *knew* we would be mad, we’ve been mad every time he’s floated amnesty trial balloons, and had his hat handed to him afterwards.

They knew there was going to be anger. They were spinning this before the full text was even done being written - and that’s all you need to know.

I’m done with our political system. This is a bi-partisan bill, and shows us what both sides stand for. Enough. No more. I will never ever support or contribute to the GOP or Democrats ever again.

Granted, if this passes, I’ll be too busy sending all my money to Washington to pay for this farce, and won’t have any extra for donations anyway.

I think the Boston Harbor could definitely use a few bales of tea...

The Senate looks across the border to Mexico and wants what they see there a political system based on graft and curroption. A system of Lords who rather than elected are chosen by birth out of a ruling class and then forced upon the people in curropt elections. The politicos like what they see mexican politicians who are Royalty and above the common people. That is what they want here thats why they are trying so hard to tunr the USA into mexico.

I’ve had enough of this nonsense. Time to clean house in Washington they all need to go.

I think what irritates me most about the politicians, and the media for that matter, is that when it comes to the war and its handling, they use poll numbers like they are infallible. They use them like they are the Gospel. But when the polls clearly and overwhelmingly go against what the pols and media wants, they don’t even acknowledge them as important.

I truly, truly hate being treated as so stupid that I wouldn’t notice this. It’s like the time I went out to the car to get the remainder of my groceries and came in to find one of my dogs up on top of the table trying to eat what I had already brought in. When I walked in and caught him, he froze. He had this look on his face that said “Maybe if I don’t look over there, and I stay very still, they won’t see me trying to steal this steak.” They are wrong, we know they are wrong, they know we know they are wrong, and yet they keep hoping if they pretend nothing is wrong, no one will really do anything about it.

1965 the US Congress promises all Americans that the borders of the United States of America will be be secured.

1986 US Congress gives amnesty to millions of illegal felons, promising Americans that if they go along with this amnesty, the US Government promises to secure our borders.

2007 Americans are being told that if we swallow the new amnesty bill, that gives 12-40 million illegal felons amnesty, then and only then, the borders will be secured! This time the US Government promises all Americans this time!

Oud Borders are not secure Mr. President ,and this giveaway of America will make them less so.

This article is baloney as is the feigned shock it alleges. The politicians cited are grizzled veterans who have, no doubt, run for City Council, State Assembly, State Senate, the Congress and finally the U.S. Senate. What are the odds they’ve gotten this far in politics by being clueless as to public sentiment on key issues?

really the level of anger isn't a shock..... Americans really do want to win the war on terror and Americans realize the illegals have to be removed to win the war on terror.... The politicians are playing stupid again...... The politicians know the truth but act as though they don't. It is easier for the wolf to hide in sheep's clothing, if the one in the sheep's clothing acts like a sheep, and politicians are master of this game, but this time the American public is on to the politicians...... A wolf can be made to leave, if the sheep go after the wolf in great numbers.

They are looking at it purely from a political perspective. To oppose amnesty will destroy the GOP forever simply becasue they will lose support from the hispanic community and the democrats will gain support. THe GOP senators who support amnesty are worried about re-election. Without pandering to the illegal supporters, they will not get enough votes for re-election. However, with the current outcry, they fear a lot of conservative and traditional GOP voters will stay home like they did in '06. No matter how they vote on anmesty, either decision will fracture the support they need to win. Either they drive hispanics to the dems, or they alienate their base. It's lose-lose for them. In the long run, the GOP will lose more seats because of this, regardless of the outcome.

Plus there is nothing in the bill other than a vague amendment to pay back taxes ...

I think that's because revenue bills are supposed to originate in the House (remember a Bob Dole bill?), and the reason Bush & Co. wanted it out is that the Pubbies could use that as a reason to hold it up in the House.

If we can't nail 'em for treason, we oughta nail the suckers for false advertising.

Columnist Rod Dreher asked an immigration lawyer what he thought of the bill. The reply: "If an ICE agent apprehends aliens.........the agent cannot detain them. Instead, ICE must provide them the opportunity to apply for the Z visa."

Ergo, instead of initiating removal proceedings, ICE will be initiating amnesty applications.

This is the equivalent of turning the Drug Enforcement Agency into a needle distribution network.

I disagree, this is a win-win for the GOP if they stand up and say ‘the rule of law’ has to be enforced. But if the GOP stands up and says ‘the rule of law’ will be enforced after amnesty, no-one will believe the GOP. The GOP better get its head on straight or it is lose-lose time.

“Hispanics”, illegal ones, anyways, aren’t supposed to vote. There is no reason to pander to them. If they’re worried about ‘em, they need to work on vote fraud, in addition to border enforcement.

Legal “Hispanics” (aka Americans) are mostly in favor of enforcement, like most of us.

What is really happening, is that Americans are being sold out by an elite that is looking to import a new slave class.

I’d vote for clueless (although I have only one vote to spread among the lot of them).

They’re clueless b/c when I dialed my senators’ offices about the 1-800-882-2005 direct Spanish access line, the both of them claimed no knowledge of it. I expressed clearly to both it speaks very poorly of their national security awareness that any foreign entity would have access to the Senate’s communications network without them having knowledge of such.

One aide even had the audacity to tell me the regular lines were so tied up from persons calling in about immigration reform that I’d just have to keep calling until I got through and when I told him I got through TWICE without wait using the access #, he seemed totally dumbfounded, thanked me for my call, and hung up. I wonder where he thought he was while I was speaking to him?

Yes this whole thing is a smokescreen and the American people know it. We’re wise to this thing and we don’t believe the lies no often how much they repeat it.

That repeating the lie over and over ain’t gonna work this time.

Teddy Kennedy is betraying the Democrats too, by rewarding illegal labor, cheating low-income American families and *legal* immigrants. And that’s not right in anyone’s playbook.
