Does Fred Thompson have what it takes to be president? The former senator turned "Law & Order" actor, who launched an exploratory committee last week, has been dogged by rumors that he doesn't have the work ethic for a long campaign. "The book on him is he's lazy," David Keene, president of the American Conservative Union, said last week. The criticism seems fed by Thompson's time in the Senate, where he maintained a less rigorous schedule than his colleagues and was known to duck out of late-night debates. Of the 90 bills he introduced during his eight years in the Senate, only four became law.
Thompson has never denied being irritated with the pace of Senate life and cited it as one of the reasons he opted out of a 2002 re-election bid. "I don't like spending 14- and 16-hour days voting on 'sense of the Senate' resolutions on irrelevant matters," he said in 1998. "There are some important things we really need to get on withand on a daily basis, it's very frustrating." His 2008 competitors have privately questioned his endurance, with one rival consultant (anonymous so as not to reflect badly on his own man) telling NEWSWEEK, "I doubt he has the fire in the belly to compete."

The MSM in general and NewSqueak and the Washington ComPost are trying to bash Fred with the same non-issue story.
The same pitiful charges were raised earlier today by the Boston Blob and El Rooters (posted on Free Republic HERE.

Good. I want a President that does little or nothing. If only we could elect a Congress that would be the same.
So Senator Thompson does not spend 20 hour days spinning the press, having meetings, gabbing his constituents, and reading through reams of “reports” from staff, leaving no time for a normal life with his family and friends?
Point in his favor.
“The book on him is he’s lazy...”
Lessee.... A lawyer—a Watergate prosecutor. A lobbyist for 10 years, an actor, then a Senator. Now an actor.
Yep, that sounds pretty lazy alright.
That’s ok. We want them misunderestimating him, anyway. :)
It's same ol'/same ol' method DNC uses to drum the mantra into mushy-headed network-watchers, who have been previously indoctrinated in the Publik Skoolz, and do as their told, think the Gubmint should provide for their every need, and believe any B.S. that they see on TV, or read in the newspapers and magazines.
The Internet and forums such as this are the only way to find the opposing views, and the facts with some common sense application.
Of the 90 bills he introduced during his eight years in the Senate,
And in 100 years in the senate lurch from Mass. introduced what 4?
“The book on him is he’s lazy,”
They said the same thing about Reagan for 8 years.
If Fred is “lazy” like Reagan, he has my support
Clinton spent a lot of time in the Oval office at night—but we can do without what he was doing there!
Good point.
“I don’t like spending 14- and 16-hour days voting on ‘sense of the Senate’ resolutions on irrelevant matters,” he said in 1998. “There are some important things we really need to get on withand on a daily basis, it’s very frustrating.”
—Fred Thompson—
Personally- I find this attitude honest, refreshing, and sane. I notice they spend a lot of time on busy-work doing nothing...........AND YET- when it comes to whether or not THEY HAVE READ the damned immigration bill....
Brought to you by the same people who think Hussein Obama is refreshing (even though he has no experience), Hillary is experienced (at lying through her teeth), John Edwards brings something new to Washington (more expensive haircuts than John Kerry), Joe Biden the moderate Senator (who can’t moderate his own hoof in mouth disease), Dodd the experienced Senator (who has the most back room experience), Bill Richardson, the only governor in the race (who did nothing to govern the theft of our nuclear secrets in the Clinton administration) and so forth.
Liberal media hit piece. If Fred Thompson runs, he’s got my vote.
They said the same thing about RWR
(MSM Laziness Alert)
Gee, that didn’t take long.
The MSM and the Rudiphiles seem to prefer hands-on (control freak) president, like, say, Jimmuh Carter.
Seriously!
We already have enough laws. We only need to enforce what we have now. Congress only needs to deal with maintenance.
This makes him lazy??? LOLOLOL!
IOW , do not waste his time with pissin' contests!
"I don't like spending 14- and 16-hour days voting on 'sense of the Senate' resolutions on irrelevant matters," he said in 1998. "There are some important things we really need to get on withand on a daily basis, it's very frustrating."Doesn't sound lazy to me. Sounds intelligent. Doesn't want to sit around in elitist circle-jerks. Too smart for that.
Can you imagine having to listen to Byrd and Kennedy and the rest of the gasbags pontificating for hours on meaningless drivel, and obviously socialist claptrap? I know I couldn't take it, I can't handle 30 minutes of CNN without throwing in the towel.
AMEN, BROTHER — AMEN!
As Mr. Jefferson declared, “That government that governs least governs best.”
And as far as his legislative record goes, fewer bills equates to less interference in our lives.
Take care of defense and facilitate commerce among the states. Beyond that, they’re writing their own ticket.
The Founding Fathers envisioned a part-time legislature of men who brought talents from many fields of endeavor to the task, came together at infrequent intervals, got the job done, and went back to their private enterprises.
If Fred got tired of the egotistical blowhards in the Senate who are in love with sound of their own voices and think that federal legislation is the only solution to every conceivable human problem, that speaks well of him.
Total spin. That has nothing to do with Thompson...it would be true whether he were in the Senate or not. The vast majority of all bills introduced into Congress are never passed into laws.
I don’t think the MSM appreciates just how lame this attack really is.
For one thing — the rigors of campaigning will support or refute it in a big hurry.
If this is all they have on Fred... they’re going to have to return a big chunk of that bag money to the DNC.
If you want a job done efficiently and economically give it to the laziest person in the room...
scratch gravitas, go with lazitas
i think they should set a maximum limit on the number of laws (the total number; not how many new ones they can add).
then, if congress wants to add a new one, they have to eliminate an old one.
the maxlimit should be set at about half of what we have now.
congress could then focus on figuring out which laws to eliminate until they get it down to the max allowable.
they would have to delete 25% of the surplus laws each year, until they get it down to the maxlimit.
if they fail to delete enough in any single year, laws would be deleted at random.
this would solve most problems in this country.
Well, I hope a LOT of taxpayers hear that quote - it ought to raise his poll numbers significantly!
How many of HRC's or Obama's became law?
My sentiments exactly.
LMAO! Wouldn’t that be a hoot. Just number all the laws and throw them in a hat and draw some out.
You could watch the RATS have a stroke as they drew out laws on special taxes etc.
Well, we all know how studious, industrious, hard-working, ethical and above board our own media is.
(snort!)
Can you imagine having to sit hour after hour listening to blowhards like "Sheets" Byrd and Teddy the Swimmer droning on and on! It's like sitting in a staff meeting listening to the usual blah, blah, blah, yak, yak, yak, while important issues get shoved to the back of the bus. No wonder Fred got out.
Fred has written position papers and given radio addresses as to where he stands on just about every issue.
The media is too lazy to read and report about it, isn’t that what’s SUPPOSED to be important, where a candidate stands on the issues.
Not to the “geniuses” in the media, arent’ you supposed to REPORT about a candidate? There is no reporting anymore, just opinion, endless navel gazing, every article is a contest as to who can be the most clever, or nasty, or witty.
Fred Thompson is light years smarter than anyone who will be “reporting” on him, just like Reagan. Reagan left a paper trail a mile long about where he stood and the “reporters” still called him a “puppet” and an “actor”.
While I don’t think Fred is lazy, I do think his health problems are a factor. He doesn’t look well. Have you seen the bags under his eyes?
We need a strong candidate with stamina who can work 24/7 if we want to beat Hill/Obama next year.
Run Fred, RUN!
PRECISELY what the Drive-By Media said about Reagan. They even spin their 20-year-old spin.
Here's a fellow who won't be getting any White House invitations during 2009-2016.
I actually don’t think that’s a sign of bad health. I think it’s the sign of a guy who’s always been a little on the chunky side that decided to lose a bunch of weight for this campaign, which he obviously did.
Of course, trolls can say that he lost weight because of the lymphoma, but according to him, he’s never actually had any symptoms from it and until Fred gives me a reason to disbelieve him, I’ll be taking him at his word.
I do wish he’d had a bit of tightening done under those eyes though.
He has been looking better than he did in March on Fox. That was particularly awful lightning for him.
My guess: he doesn’t spend enough time sucking up to those who are accustomed to it... thus, he must be “too lazy” to do it. No one in their right mind would refuse to brown-nose the proper elites! How dare a man rely on the grass-roots vermin in fly-over country to get him elected! Such tomfoolery cannot stand!
