OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- An arrest has been made in the homicide investigation of 18-year-old Kelsey Smith.
Late Wednesday night, police said Edwin R. Hall, 26, of Olathe, was being held in the Johnson County Jail in connection with the slaying of Smith.
Law enforcement crews combing a large wooded area near Longview Lake Wednesday found a body believed to be missing teenager Kelsey Smith, who was abducted from an Overland Park Target store parking lot Saturday night.
Overland Park Police Chief John Douglass said Smith's body was found about 1:30 p.m. across the state line near Grandview, Mo., about 20 miles east of the abduction site.
Positive identification was pending, but Douglass said volunteer searchers could stop their work. He did not say how the woman was slain, but KMBC reported that there were signs of trauma to the body.
"As I understand she was found at a wooded area, but I can't say whether she was directly concealed by bushes," Douglass told reporters during an afternoon news conference.

I’m not sure about Grandview, MO. They’d probably hang him too, and quick.
I was watching this on Greta earlier. He was picked out as a very strong suspect then. I guess they may have uncovered some evidence against him.
This is such a sad case, I almost cried watching her dad read a prepared statement.

With his picture plastered all over the KC and national news, I’m sure they were getting evidence against him Saturday night. I can’t wait to see how this all unfolds.
My sister and her family live about 5-10 minutes from that Target and when my niece visits from NY, she always hits the store because it is so close to her home. Yikes.

The guy in the video exiting the store did not appear to be 26. He appeared slightly younger. Hard to tell though.
It was good family and friends kept calling her cell. It apparently helped track the movements.
Seems this was a premeditated stakeout for a victim. However, I have reservations about this being a totally random as far as the suspects choice of victim.
Seems a little odd he would enter the store right after her, then exit the store just before her, wait for the victim, force her into her vehicle and leave.
The randomness of the way he picked this victim seems a little odd.
He just walks into a store, picks his victim, waits till she is cashing out, he exits the store and waits for her to exit. Could have happened this way, but sure seems a little too quick, and too random.
I would have bet there was some kind of connection between the suspect and the victim. Looks like my hunch was incorrect.
I would much rather turn him over to her dad and let him hand out his punishment.

Amen! Prayers go out for all of them. May God comfort them and give them strength for the difficult days ahead, because they're sure going to have some. This isn't supposed to happen to these young kids

Wouldn’t this be a Federal case? Her body was found in Missouri. They don’t know yet whether she was murdered in Kansas or Missouri,....would that make a difference? Just asking questions if you know. Thanks
Yes, even if she were murdered in Kansas, and he crossed into Missouri in an effort to conceal, hide or dump the body, federal criminal law would apply here.
(Seriously, a terrible tragedy. But people need to remember that just because you know who the convicted sex offenders are you still aren't safe; a major amount of these cries are committed by first-timers.)

No it doesn’t. My daughter is 34 and I harp on her all the time about being safe and aware of what’s going on around you. And to add to it she has a 9 yo daughter for me to worry about.

I’m wondering if the middle initial “R” is correct. In the people finding databases, it is someone with the middle initial “K” always listed in Olathe. The “R” one is listed in Wichita.
This is an older person, possibly the father. The reason I ask is that the Olathe one worked for Target.
Never mind - found it. Oh, it is the same address as the “K” person I mentioned above who worked for Target.
