It's indicative of how very badly President Bush needs a victory any victory that he plans to make a rare trip to Capitol Hill Tuesday afternoon to attend a weekly Republican luncheon. There, he will make a personal appeal to senators on behalf of his bipartisan immigration reform bill, the progress of which came to a sudden and surprising halt late Thursday night after a failed attempt to bring the legislation to a vote.
While Bush has previously leaned on Vice President Cheney to make these kinds of congressional entreaties (the President last sat in on a Senate policy lunch in 2002), either Bush's desperation or the VP's lack of enthusiasm for the measure or quite possibly both has forced his hand.

I wasn’t sure what you meant till I went to his web site and read his opinion on Kennedy\McCain,now I get the LOL reference !!!
Looks like our president has ruled out doing anything militarily about Iran in the next 18 months. He isn’t going to have any possibility of recovering political capital with this latest move.
Oh! so true, no one in their right mind would vote for another bush, so the hell with everyone.
Well I’d say he’s doing a good job of it...
I can’t bear to look...he is head of the RNC too. That is where we are attacking the contributions...none given and for this reason. They let the callers at headquarters go this week...they must have gotten the message!
Last fall he had a news conference when he signed the fence bill.
Wheres the damn fence Jorge? His little lies are growing lies.
I've asked this question several times on FR, and have yet to get any sort of answer at all, so I'll ask you, PhiKapMom: Why did Tom Coburn abstain from voting on the Cornyn Amendment?
He should have fought this hard for SS reform. Or anything else that would be for the good of this country.
He’s been too cozy with that mess that passes itself off as a country since he started.
STOP AMNESTY NOW!! WE CAN DO IT!!
CALL! CALL! CALL! CALL! AND KEEP CALLING TILL THE LINES FRY!
WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! TILL YOU RUN OUT OF INK IN YOUR PEN!
Bombard the Democrats as well, especially the ones that ran on an anti illegal immigration plank and the ones in marginal districts who could be vulnerable. keep pounding on them. This is a bipartisan issue not a Conservative or Liberal issue BUT AN AMERICAN issue.
Again.
The only thing I've found is that a staffer claimed Coburn had a speaking engagement. A speaking engagement. More important than defeating this bill? More important than voting yea on Cornyn's amendment, which would have removed convicted felons from consideration for this de facto amnesty? I admired Tom Coburn enough to have mentioned his name several times, as a potential presidential candidate. But, this lapse disturbs me greatly.
“Bush may be self-medicating again.”
I had the same thought. His insulting comments in Bulgaria—said in his crudest Texas drawl—suggested to me the behavior of a belligerent drunk spoiling for a fight. He was known for behaving that way when he was drunk—insulting people in restaurants, for example. Now he’s insulting Republicans who don’t agree with him. He told Tom Tancredo that he wouldn’t be able to darken the door of the White House ever again. Maybe Republicans in the House and Senate can put together an impeachment resolution that will prevent Bush from darkening the White House door again.
By the way, Harry Reid is referring to the illegals as “undocumented Americans” who should be brought out of the shadows. And Bush wants to deal with him and Kennedy and Salazar? He knifes his Republican base and throws in with the sleaziest Democrats in the Senate.
More like ‘freedom fajitos’ the way he is going nowadays.
His rationale? “I just want to reward the Hectors and Hectoritas for doing the jobs you racist bigots won’t do.”
The real deal behind this is that the globalist minded politicians don’t want a fence as it will throw a wrench into merging the US, Canada and Mexico into an unholy (and illegal) United Americas.
Cromwell will have fared the better in that case.
I see you have been doing your job, must be how you picked your screen name LOL.
I wholeheartedly agree. That IS why there will be no fence. That IS why there is no fence and the National Guard is now gone.
Bush wanted to make sure even more would cross to get in on the National tit.

But you see, all that is not important. Bush has a higher calling and responsibility. As with the jihadists, he believes it's proper, effective and good strategy to lie to the American people about his loyalty to the Constitution and the American public, since he has a supreme vision of a new North American Superstate, currently referred to in government NewSpeak as "The Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America" (http://www.spp.gov), composed of Mexico, Canada and the US. We should not question his goals nor his methods since, after all, he knows what is best and he is the "Decider".
Sure, implementing all this will be nasty, brutal and murderously chaotic for the citizens of this nation, but not to worry, he has a new 98,000 acre ranch in Paraguay where he and his elitist ilk can ride it all out. The man does think ahead.
Alcoa or Reynold’s?
Read it for yourself. Sure, I didn't believe any of this either - before Bush demonstrated a suicidal urge to destroy the basic fabric of this nation - and for what purpose? None of the other motives make any sense - but this one does, to an insulated elitist. In any case, you will be hearing more about the SPP as the snickers die down and our "leaders" start openly referring to and defending the concept.
"Security and Prosperity Partnership Of North America
The Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP) was launched in March of 2005 as a trilateral effort to increase security and enhance prosperity among the United States, Canada and Mexico through greater cooperation and information sharing.
This trilateral initiative is premised on our security and our economic prosperity being mutually reinforcing. The SPP recognizes that our three great nations are bound by a shared belief in freedom, economic opportunity, and strong democratic institutions.
The SPP provides the framework to ensure that North America is the safest and best place to live and do business. It includes ambitious security and prosperity programs to keep our borders closed to terrorism yet open to trade.
The SPP builds upon, but is separate from, our long-standing trade and economic relationships. It energizes other aspects of our cooperative relations, such as the protection of our environment, our food supply, and our public health.
Looking forward, President Bush, Prime Minister Harper and President Fox have identified emergency management; influenza pandemics, including avian influenza; energy security; and safe and secure gateways (border security and facilitation) as key priorities for the SPP. The Leaders also announced the creation of North American Competitiveness Council to fully incorporate the private sector into the SPP process." (more at http://www.spp.gov/)
