Should hunters -- or anyone who enjoys a steak or a hamburger -- have to pay extra for that little indulgence?

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals thinks so. One of the nation's largest anti-hunting organizations, the group has kicked off a "Tax Meat" Campaign, proposing a 10-cent-per-pound excise tax on meat. Animal activists have also asked federal lawmakers to give tax breaks to those who have sworn off the consumption of animals.

PETA has a really good PR department. They get thousands of $$$ worth of free press for each of their crackpot ideas. I hate ‘em but ya gotta respect ‘em too, in this regard.

I’d be happy to pay an excise tax for meat, if in return the game ‘n fish people would add a couple “animal activist” tags to my hunting license.

“give tax breaks to those who have sworn off the consumption of animals”

In other words, anyone could apply for that. Just tell the government you’re a vegan and if they ask for proof hide any meat you may have.

I wouldn't mind helping thin that herd myself.

Yeah they’re nuts and silly alright, but they are going to tell lies just like the “Global Warming” and “Second Hand Smoke” nuts and get their way.

That is worrisome. Politicians would be only too accommodating to people wanting more taxes.

Watch it. One of PETA’s not so distant goals is the elimination of pets and farm animals.

I agree. There should be a 25% tax on vegetables for every member who shows their PETA card at the grocery store.

I guess not many will show there PETA card though.

Animal activists have also asked federal lawmakers to give tax breaks to those who have sworn off the consumption of animals.

Haven't had meat in years, I want a tax break...snicker..no really...no meat...come smell my poop if ya don't believe me.

Here’s what we do. Charge a tax on consuming meat, and have the tax paid by PETA.

Here’s proof these PETA whackos are animals. They must be as they are vegatarians

It appears to me from how I read Genesis that the good Lord gave us meat for food and the plants were given to the animals for food.

Genesis
001:026 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our
likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea,
and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over
all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth
upon the earth.

001:027 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God
created he him; male and female created he them.

001:028 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and
multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have
dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the
air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

001:029 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing
seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree,
in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it
shall be for meat.

001:030 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air,
and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there
is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was
so.

PETA is over consuming vegetables, leaving the rest of us in a shortage. Wait! What am I saying? Hey guys, two for one on the price of broccoli!
