Pres. Bush's meeting with Republican Senators at noon appears to be providing just the extra push that pro-amnesty leaders have wanted.
The Senate's top two Republican leaders -- McConnell (R-Ky.) and Lott (R-Miss.) -- are using this opportunity to pull 15 Republicans (of the 38 who voted against amnesty last week) back to Pres. Bush's side.
McConnell and Lott hope to get those 15 to sign off on a list of amendments they want brought up for a vote.
They hope to present that list to Democratic leader Sen. Reid (D-Nev.) by tonight!

When you think about it, the deal that Mcconnell and Lott are offering makes little sense. They are basically saying that they want the 15 Republican Senators to agree to vote for cloture in exchange for a chance to have their favorite amendments voted down.
Many of those same Senators may vote against the final bill (when it will take 50 votes to defeat it), but their promise to Bush, McConnell and Lott will be that they will vote FOR cloture (when it would take only 39 votes to defeat it).
In other words, they will vote for the amnesty in the tally where their NO vote would have the most possibility of defeating the bill.
Please call these Republicans and urge them to refuse any deal that wins their YES vote on another cloture vote.

Wolfie started the current hour with a header about the immigration bill ‘granting immediate legal status to illegals’.

I would have fallen out of my chair, except I wasn’t sitting down. I couldn't believe CNN would headline a report with that admission. That diametrically counters what Kennedy, Specter, Bush, Snow, McCain, Graham, Feinstein, have been saying. And that revelation came on CNN. Wow!
Wolfie went on to interview Sen. DeMint. DeMint stated that they (those opposing this current bill) were waiting for the Bush Admin to 1) secure the border and build the fence approved last session, and 2) push the states to institute the ID program approved last session.
What????

I caught Tony spinmeister Snow on FoxNews this morning. He was pushing the current bill because ‘we need a Federal ID to be able to identify who’s who’.
What???
Snow says we need an ID program and it is in the new bill. However, DeMint said they got an ID program last session, but the Bush Administration hasn’t bothered to implement it.
So, who is spinning?

I have been watching CNN now for nearly 50 minutes, and no mention of Paris Hilton. I’m going to stay with CNN for a while. FoxNews can cover Paris and Anna’s boyfriend, etc.
DeMint seemed to think Bush's push today did not sway anyone. DeMint said that most of 'flack' to Bush at the luncheon came from those 'supporting the bill'. LOL
Lott’s the one who basically threw a hissy-fit and said if they couldn’t pass this bill they might as well dissolve congress and all go home.
We are watching something quite defining: Although the President and every lawmaker knows that the huge majority of American people do not want amnesty or anything close to amnesty for illegals, they are on the verge of ramming such legislation down our throats! On this issue will rest our faith in ‘representative government.’ If it responds as it should, and secures the borders absolutely, and sets up committees to study the best ways of dealing fairly and humanely with decent, working, law-abiding illegals, then we can breathe a sigh of relief and take some pride in our form of government. If the current, seriously flawed sell-out of the American people is passed into law, we need to identify every lawmaker who voted for it, and, then, we need to vote him/her out of office at the first opportunity. No matter what other positions that person has taken, he/she must be removed!
It looks like the graphical representation of nuclear strikes from the movie WarGames, and is about the same effect.
I also made the point that we have plenty of immigration laws on the books right now that are being ignored, what's the point in passing another useless law.
Let’s make it clear that we want NO on CLOTURE. Kill the bill, don’t just vote against final passage. Also, make clear that “amendments won’t fix it.”

I hope you just forgot the sarcasm tag, here, because this is classic, Democrat doublespeak. Yep, it'll take one whopper of a blue ribbon commission to deal fairly with law-abiding lawbreakers.
The toll-free number (funded buy the Mexican amnesty professionals) GETS DIRECTLY THROUGH to a real person in each states’ US Senate office.
It gets through to a real person. No matter who or how many times it is tried. (Regardless of how many “regular” lines are busy or are (deliberately) left busy to regular US citizens and taxpayers.)
So, why not use the Mexican’s phone number?
Phone and talk to real people. It makes us a little more real to ‘em.

Big business (agriculture, construction, low-end manufacturing, meat packing, etc.) are behind it big time. The bill was essentially written by the lobbyist lawyers for the US Chamber of Commerce, provided pro bono to the few Senators who claim to be the authors.
Unlike the House, running for the senate requires big money contributions. Representatives are close to the people because they have to be--their districts are small, advertising and name establishment are simpler, politics are local and pork buys votes from those to receive it.
Running for the senate requires big money advertising, getting your name and positions well known across a broad spectrum of people and places. Where running for a house seat cost a few hundreds of thousands, running for the senate is usually a multi-million dollar operation.
That kind of money requires big money donors, and big bucks from the RNC. For the Republican party, big money donations means cozying up to big business. Bush is no different, he recognizes that the party needs to satisfy their big business donors and he's doing his part.
Senators were never supposed to be representatives of the people, they were supposed to be representatives of the interests of the State. They were supposed to be the defenders of State's Rights. The 17th Amendment changed all that. Being a senator now is a matter of representing the big campaign donors from your state. Name recognition and party affiliation are what get you elected. Most of voters can't even name their senators, let alone what they stand for.
Likewise, the SPP is being driven by big business who want an open North American marketplace and cheap labor. Big business is international already--patriotism and nationalism are secondary to markets and profits. CEOs don't get fired for being unpatriotic as long as they are making a profit, but let profits fall because of increased labor costs or inability to buy/sell on the international market and CEOs die a rapid death.
The amnesty bill has all to do about pleasing the big business contributors to the Party. Voters are fickle. They'll forget about amnesty by the next election, especially for senators who only have to face them every six years. By then something else will be the voters hot issues and the senators will position themselves accordingly, using the money from their big contributors.
The counter to this is in the House. Running every two years means that voters still remember who you are and what you've done. That's why the House is so much less enamored with the amnesty bill. First, people will remember. Second they're not nearly as beholden to the RNC and big donors. Ultimately, our ace in the hole may be to influence our individual representatives to kill the amnesty bill once our senate traitors pass it.

I just got through to Cornyn and his aid said the Senator is steadfast on opposition to this bill and will not vote for it.
I said that is good but he needs to walk across the hall to KBH and let her know to do the same since I cannot get through to her office.

I phoned the first week, but I could feel myself getting so frustrated, I was worried I’d lose my temper. I DON’T want to sound like some hysterical nut job. But I’ll get back on the phones this week. For all the good it will do.
