Movie Theatre Chain, AMC, gives student discounts, but none to our military members.

I wasn’t arguing a point, I was stating information that I had heard recently at a family readiness group. Still in a bad mood I see. Maybe you should take a nap for a while. That works with my 6 year old.

I’d say that getting your panties in a twist because someone dared to question your assertion is much more like a 6 year old.

Good day.

I don’t know if this has anything to do with the subject, but with the numbers of Veterans from past wars like WWII and the Korean War dwindling each year, combined with the fact that many of our public schools seem to no longer teach or appreciate our rich military history and our veterans, it’s no wonder that many people in management in some of our corporations are totally ignorant of the military in general. Remember, many of our large businesses and corporations are now run by people from the “hippie generation” (aka some of the Baby Boomers) who were taught the old “make love, not war” ideology.

Next time, just have your son mention that he’s illegally here in this country, and they’ll probably even throw in a box of Jujubes.

If I had a chip, I’d say that I have earned it after 26 years of service. And, yes, it annoys me when some granny tries to gain credibility on military issue just because she has some grandkids in the military.

No, I’m just trying to say that if you want to tell me I don’t have a valid “assertion”, then please do so with a without being so snide. You could have simple asked if I had any information to back it up instead of saying that because I used the words almost and nearly than you must believe me. Manners are sadly missing from FR lately.

and that’s why I to this day will not support the college I graduated from and throw all requests for alumni contributions in the trash.

I'm still pissed at my old college because they started letting girls in when I was a sophomore.

I signed up there in the first place because it was an all male college.

I don't think it's "entitlement" to show a tid-bit of appreciation to them - just to let them know we care.

Lest anyone get the wrong idea, I served on active duty from '69 - '71, in the field artillery, in combat, and was decorated and honorably discharged.

A lot of the posters seem to think that "we" should honor the veterans by forcing someone else to give them something.

In the case of military discounts, why don't you all get together, collect money, and go to the theater saying, "Our group, organized to honor veterans, will make up the difference between a discounted ticket and the regular price ticket for all tickets you sell to qualified veterans."

Otherwise you're trying to advance your agenda with someone else's money, just like the liberals do.

i do agree, i think it’s ridiculous. i work at an AMC theatres, and i’ve gotten a few military personel asking if we give them discounts. i say we don’t, but i always give them a childs ticket anyway. i agree with all of you.
don’t go there, amc is stupid and over pricey.

Military make better money than students on average.

>>>>So do senior citizens.

They probably mentioned Iraq because they’ve heard complaints before.

>>>>No doubt. I imagine they’ll hear it again and again.

NURSES? LMAO!

Being a prior AF medic and now a civilian nurse...THAT is a huge laugher!

I’ve never in my 20 years of being a nurse EVER seen a “nurse discount”. ANYWHERE...EVER.

Geeee...my wife works in the school lunchroom for benefits, because running a register for public school she gets a FAR better health insurance than I EVER could...

AND I’M A FRIGGIN NURSE!

I’m actually trying to get back into the military.

But even though I agree, it should be up to the business, however, we can (AND OFTEN DO) take our business elsewhere.

What do you mean “entitlement politics”? Like the companies that feel “entitled” to do whatever they feel like? Or the politicians (and others) that feel entitled to tell me how I should live my life yet fail to follow their own declarations?

And boycotting a business is used by ALL people on all sides of the political spectrum. The Religious Right boycotts Disney because Disney has no problem with Homosexuals organizing a day there.

If most retirees you worked with in your field are bad...perhaps that is an indictment of your chosen career, not retirees in general. While there are some bad in every group, my experience has been the opposite of yours. Of course, I would love to hear what those who work with you have to say about your performance!

Most of the “rich” military retirees are not rich because of their military retired pay (which is not that much to be honest), but because they either saved while in and/or obtained a good paying job after retirement.

And, companies that offer a discount do so entice people in. To offer it to the military community simply means that their friends and families may support that business more than another that does not offer the military a discount. I ask at most places if there is one. Sometimes the savings can be substantial (such as at my vet when a pet was really ill).

And, for someone claiming to be IRR, your posts leave me scratching my head sometimes. Of course, I am a recent retiree myself...

Just as an aside, you CAN get AMC tix at a discount - but you have to do it on post. I am a veteran and a military spouse. One of the biggest benefits is that you can then buy military-discount-priced tickets for your friends as well. Here is another site to verify the information: http://www.greatarmywives.com/amc-movie-theater-military-discount/

This is similar to the way buying discounted tickets through Costco (or similar places, I’ve seen the same thing at our credit union) works. Hope this helps and maybe puts less villainy on AMC. As to the exact complaint in your post - I appreciate the military discounts we receive, but the fact is that we serve because we choose to and because we feel a need to (few serve for the money or the hours, that’s for sure!) but the discounts people/companies give us are a benefit and not a right.

all that aside, thank you for your support of people like your son, myself and my husband - and our many friends and coworkers. It helps make the long hours, sleepless nights, and time alone more worthwhile.

Thank you and your spouse for you service. I have since learned that Home Depot gives a 10% discount to veterans on all their purchases. I don’t know if there are any restricted items, but I don’t think so.
