Conservatives Get Ultimatum, GOP Pushed on Immigration
Roll Call ^ | June 13, 2007 | John Stanton

Posted on 06/13/2007 9:43:46 AM PDT by 3AngelaD

Senate conservatives have been warned by Republican leaders that they must either accept a series of largely symbolic floor votes on a handful of amendments to the immigration reform legislation or see themselves shut out of the process altogether when the chamber resumes work on the bill later this year, GOP lawmakers and aides said Tuesday...

Finally a sensible post.

All I hear in the media and everywhere is bashing of the GOP while giving Democrats who are for Amnesty a pass.

Well if you look at the last vote that actually counted Democrat senators voted at 86% to pass this Amnesty bill and Republican Senators voted at least 86% to kill this Amnesty Bill. These R Senators should be thanked not bashed and supported. The GOP is opposing Bush

Only 8 out of 50-51 democrat senators voted to kill this bill. that's 86% Democrat Senators for Amnesty for illegals

Only 7 out of 49 Republican senators voted not to kill this bill. That's 86% Republican Senators against Amnesty for illegals..

This Amnesty bill would destroy the U.S.A by bringing in the family members of the illegals who would get Amnesty. this Amnesty bill would reward criminals who have invaded our country and in many cases stolen our Identities, murdered Americans, not paid taxes , joined gangs etc

Bush does not equal the GOP. Bush is just one more liberal who calls himself a Republican. I sent him an email that i will work blogging all over the Internet for his impeachment for crusading for this Amnesty.

...there is much more opposition on both sides of the aisle in the House to such a proposal, and it thus die on the vine there as well.

Thank you for informing as to how things stand in the House. We have a bicameral legislature, and I know some Dem Reps, particularly in the Black Caucus, are not so happy with this mass amnesty. I wonder if anyone has taken a public count of support in the House.

"Senate conservatives have been warned by Republican leaders..."

Can we get the names of those "Republican leaders" releasing those "warnings", because I'd sure like to see American Patriots begin "contacting" those traitorous bastards.

Linsey Graham! SHUT UP, you BIGOT!

Weiner is a liberal trojan horse. GOP and Republican senators who stopped this Amnesty and who are holding up against all the pressure to change their vote should be supported and thanked. Weiner doesn't want the senators supported cause he wants this Amnesty to pass just like when Weiner called for the Resignation of Hastert during the last election which helped Democrats gain power.

This Amnesty bill would destroy the U.S.A by bringing in the family members of the illegals who would get Amnesty. this Amnesty bill would reward criminals who have invaded our country and in many cases stolen our Identities, murdered Americans, not paid taxes , joined gangs etc

Here’s the entire article which after reading, I quickly called McConnell’s office and told him that I didn’t like my conservative senators threatened and that if he wants a fight, he’s got it.

“Senate conservatives have been warned by Republican leaders that they must either accept a series of largely symbolic floor votes on a handful of amendments to the immigration reform legislation or see themselves shut out of the process altogether when the chamber resumes work on the bill later this year, GOP lawmakers and aides said Tuesday. The warning came as President Bush met privately with Senate Republicans in an effort to restart immigration talks that stalled last week after a failed effort by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) to end debate on the controversial measure,” Roll Call reports

“Although Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Minority Whip Trent Lott (R-Miss.) and other leaders voted against several cloture motions late last week, they are pressing their Members to accept a deal under which Republicans could offer about a dozen amendments with a set time for debate. But leadership also has made it clear that if conservatives do not agree to the deal, they run the risk of losing their seat at the negotiating table.”

Seems we Conservatives issued an ultimatum last week.
I guess we need to speak a bit louder.

How exactly? Jeb’s not in office now and after the utter failures of 41 and 43 the only way he gets in the WH is with a visitor’s pass.

These are people who hold green cards and who are going back and forth across the border every day, people who live in Mexico and work in California, Arizone, New Mexico and Texas, and also live in Canada and work in U.S. In El Paso, there are thousands of people, probably hundreds of thousands, who have something called a border crossing card. This isn’t 500 million DIFFERENT people, it is 500 million border crossings. It is relatively easy to count heads going back and forth across the bridge.

Is one of these “Republican Leaders” Mitch McConnell? He’s up for reelection in ‘08 and I can guarantee you he can kiss his seat goodbye if he is one of them.

This madness is getting out of hand!
One million people, a huge truck with a shredder in front of the Hill, and a loud demand for the bill to be shredded right away will end this. If these empty suits want circus then, let them have it.

"Senate conservatives have been warned by Republican leaders"

Those few words tell it all. Republican leaders warn conservatives!

Enough with both the Democratic Party and Republican Party. If Congressional conservatives lack the courage to break from the two party system and offer US citizens a true American way, enough with them too. Neither the Democratic Party or Republican Party see conservatives as anything but an obstacle to their agendas.
