My apologies if this is already posted under another title!
“What you want to buy a AK pattern rifle... hmm you must have a mental problem...”
Here it is folks... if you need to buy a gun, you have a mental disorder... as defined by .gov
Sponsored by McCarthy and Dingell(berry)...two good reasons for me to oppose it!
That will be the next battle front for the gun grabbers. Since mental competence is a deciding factor, expect all sorts of new mental disorders to be added to the prohibited list.
“The NRA has always supported the NICS, said the organization’s executive vice president, Wayne LaPierre. “We’ve always been vigilant about protecting the rights of law-abiding citizens to purchase guns, and equally vigilant about keeping the guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally defective and people who shouldn’t have them.”
“Here it is folks... if you need to buy a gun, you have a mental disorder... as defined by .gov”
Yeah. Watch judges take a new interest in redefining mental disorders.

Hmmm.
One of two things will happen here.
The citizens of Virginia will get very very pissed off.
Or...the citizens of Virginia will demonstrate they deserve Jim Webb.
Stay tuned.....
oops! Sorry for the double post.
Second-to-last paragraph:
The only dissenting vote in the short House debate on the bill was voiced by GOP presidential aspirant Ron Paul of Texas. He described the bill as “a flagrantly unconstitutional expansion of restriction on the exercise of the right to bear arms.”
And yet, some Freepers don’t like that guy...
Its a Federal bill, not a Virginia bill.
It will be interesting to see if Chucky, DiFi, et al can keep their paws off of the bill when it gets to the Senate. I’d say it’s even money that DiFi tries to add a renewal of the AW ban. (She’s as single-minded and stubborn about ugly guns as GWB is about giving amnesty to 50 million of his closest friends and their relations!) I wonder what will happen once Mrs. McCarthy gets mugged.
If the Senate passes this... it’s time.
” Dr. Thompson is Executive Director of Utah Gun Owners Alliance, www.utgoa.org and also writes The Righter, www.therighter.com, a monthly column on individual rights.”
heh
The bill, as is, is not bad—it simply ensures that people who are adjudicated a danger to themselves or others will be known to the NICS system. That alone I can live with.
But yeah, if they start tinkering with it, things could go South in a hurry.
TC
Federal regulation of guns cannot Constitutionally exist. The Second Ammendment forbids it. Article I, section of the Constitution does not grant Congress the authority to regulate possession of firearms. Any and all such Unconstitutional legislation must be implacably opposed, and any elected Congress Critter who votes for such legislation must never again receive a vote from those who value the Constitution.
“Adjudicated” is the key word there. (And too many people on this thread are failing to realize that!) It takes more than a Paris-like “That’s hot” statement of “You’re nuts” from a social worker to compromise one’s gun rights. It takes a court, a judge, lawyers, and the whole nine yards to make such a determination of unfitness. This bill, as it is now, does nothing to change that standard.
