Majority Leader Reid Close to Reviving Senate Immigration Bill
FOX News ^ | June 14, 2007 | Major Garrett and Trish Turner

Details of the immigration compromise remain to be finalized, but top Democratic sources say Reid has closely monitored the behind-the-scenes dickering over policy changes and a finite list of amendments due for consideration. Based on the latest updates on the policy and amendments, Reid will approve the compromise and move late Thursday to put the bill back on the calendar for Senate consideration in the middle of next week.

"He's going to bless it and he's going to get the Senate back in the business of dealing with immigration," said a source in the Democratic Senate leadership.

The principal change to the bipartisan immigration compromise that Reid shelved last week is the addition of $4.4 billion in added border security spending. That money will be added to the base bill to return to the floor. Any other changes to the immigration bill will have to be made through the amendment process.

The base immigration bill seeks to tighten border security, put an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants on a path to permanent residency and create a temporary worker program.

Republican leaders have promised to produce enough votes to curtail debate on the bill and proceed to final passage. Last week's impasse arose after Reid twice failed to collect the 60 votes necessary to limit debate and move toward final passage.

With the GOP votes in hand and a finite list of amendments to be offered by 11 Democratic and 11 Republican senators, Democratic sources said Reid is now determined to see whether the legislation can survive the amendment process intact. If it does, the Senate could vote on final passage of the bill by next Friday, Democratic sources said.

Exactly. They must think the American public all have the attention span of a gnat, BIG mistake on their part IMO.

The old MSM is great no more.

“Quite the contrary, if there is a compromise in the works, we now have to fight harder than ever.”

There is no compromise. Their “compromise” is just trying to make it worse, but give it tough sounding enforcement mechanisms, which will be made useless under Z visas and instant legalization.

Kyl, Kenedy, Bush, Snow, Chertoff,

Lie after lie after lie.

They think they were cocooned by spin,

but their efforts to reply to the tricks and lies,

only exposes them more.

And again, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!?!

I don't think the country really survives after this amnesty and the new round of illegals after. It really is going to overwhelm the nation . . . I was posting on another thread about Christian church history. The councils would last 18 years sometimes as they deliberated issues of importance. This massive change in a few days with no hearings? No hearings! What part have the people played in this farce? What is going on?

Well that's it then. The divorce is final.

They're banking that after they march out new legislation making English the official language of all state functions (together with symbolic prohibitions on flag burning and gay marraige) you and I will be lining up to vote straight R at the next election.

If thats not enough they'll gently remind us that Ruth Bader Ginsberg was looking a little peaked at her last public appearance - remember those judicial appointments.

The greedbags in congress obviously plan on having their amnesty cake & eat it too. Thats how much respect they have for our collective intelligence.

You can use the amnesty 800 number, 800-417-7666, to reach your Senators for free. Also, I discovered, you can avoid the propaganda spiel by pressing 1 when it starts. Press 1 again to be connected directly to your senior Senator. Call again and press 1 then 2 for your junior Senator.

Start to hit them on weekends, let the voice mail boxes fill up and run the fax machines out of paper.

The divorce papers won't be signed until the President signs the bill.

Do you really think he won't sign it? You're really a glass-half-full kind guy.

Remember back during the Klinton years how there had to be a “truth box” for almost every news story? I’d say the “truth boxes” are needed once again for this administration. I don’t trust them anymore, and that goes for the senate RINOs as well.

They walked out on us — we didn’t walk out on them.

Someone put it very nicely in another post: Our representatives think they’re our leaders. Um. No.

No, I know he'll sign it. I'm just saying that until it get's to his desk we've still got a shot.

the Republican Party as we now know it will be gone....forever.
Yep. We'll be a permanent minority party.

At some point this country will have a new third party to contend with...the Latino Nationalist / Socialist Party
On that I respectfully disagree. The Latino socialists will simply be part and parcel of the Democrat party, which has become hard left and will welcome them. It will be a one party rule and the end of any relevant conservative movement, period.
