The U.S. House of Representatives shot down a proposal Friday by U.S. Rep. Trent Franks, R-Ariz, that would have built an 854-mile, double layered security fences along the Mexican border.
Franks noted that only 13 miles of a Mexican border fence approved last year have been built and that the fencing is needed to improve border security.
"With over 4,000 people crossing our southern border illegally every day, our border remains one of our country's most critical national security vulnerabilities. In order to carry out an act of terrorism, a militant Islamist simply needs a porous border and a dangerous weapon," said Franks in a statement.
Franks represents Glendale, Peoria, Sun City and Kingman.
The fence plan failed by 272 to 149 votes. Most Democrats (including Arizona congressional members Harry Mitchell, Gabrielle Giffords , Ed Pastor and Raul Grijalva) voted against the border fence plan.
Most Republicans (including Franks and fellow Arizona Reps. Rick Renzi and John Shadegg) voted for the comprehensive fence plan.
Mesa GOP Congressman Jeff Flake crossed party lines and vote against the border fence bill.
The House did approve an overall homeland and border security appropriations bill Friday. Mitchell said he backed that bill because it allocates federal money to hire more Border Patrol Agents and resources to deport violent illegal immigrant criminals.
"Deporting those illegal immigrants who have committed violent crimes is absolutely imperative to keeping our communities safe," Mitchell said in a statement. Mitchell represents Tempe and Scottsdale.
The state's four Democratic representatives and Renzi voted for the final bill. Flake, Franks and Shadegg opposed.
The votes could be a precursor to a big political fight over immigration reforms, a guest worker program and how to deal with the 12 million illegal immigrants already in the U.S.
They still don’t get the message.
The way to prevent the ship from sinking is to plug the hole first, then bail out the water.
More traitors named.
This a test to see who will probably vote for the senate bill if it passes?
It's way past time for the pitchforks.
What more do we need to hear? These traitors have no intention of locking down anything.
Those 272 need to be sent to the unemployment line ----
Link Congressional pay to completion of the fence. When the fence is 100% completed they will get 100% of their pay.
Their offical paycheck is nothing compared to the money made by influence peddling, lobbyist kickbacks, bribes, gifts, etc. Most of them wouldn’t even notice the loss of the government check.
Now I'm not so sure.
Things look bleak, don't they.
To all those who say the border cannot be fixed and the rot stopped, read this article http://www.csmonitor.com/2006/0706/p09s01-coop.html
In the 50’s over 1 million per year were coming across then Ike took action. Below is from the article. IT WORKED UNTIL AGAIN THERE WAS NO POLITICAL WILL.
“In 1954, Ike appointed retired Gen. Joseph “Jumpin’ Joe” Swing, a former West Point classmate and veteran of the 101st Airborne, as the new INS commissioner.
Then on June 17, 1954, what was called “Operation Wetback” began. Because political resistance was lower in California and Arizona, the roundup of aliens began there. Some 750 agents swept northward through agricultural areas with a goal of 1,000 apprehensions a day. By the end of July, over 50,000 aliens were caught in the two states. Another 488,000, fearing arrest, had fled the country.
By mid-July, the crackdown extended northward into Utah, Nevada, and Idaho, and eastward to Texas.
By September, 80,000 had been taken into custody in Texas, and an estimated 500,000 to 700,000 illegals had left the Lone Star State voluntarily.
Unlike today, Mexicans caught in the roundup were not simply released at the border, where they could easily reenter the US. To discourage their return, Swing arranged for buses and trains to take many aliens deep within Mexico before being set free.
Tens of thousands more were put aboard two hired ships, the Emancipation and the Mercurio. The ships ferried the aliens from Port Isabel, Texas, to Vera Cruz, Mexico, more than 500 miles south.”
And if you don't have a fence, what the HELL is the point of deporting them??? They're just going to turn around and WALK RIGHT BACK IN the NEXT DAY!!!
This is like a broken record...deport them - they come back - deport them - they come back.......
Can we recall ALL of Congress??
By way of the hospital. LOL I have never seen such arrogance in my life. They obviously have forgotten they work for us. It's time to start some recall petitions!
I don’t have much use for the “Parliament of Whores” anymore.
Knowing that border security and enforcement is the main concern of the public, lets recap just a few of the amendments that were defeated in two weeks of debate: the Coleman amendment to end the policy of sanctuary cities, defeated 48-to-49; the McConnell amendment to require a photo ID for voting in order to combat voter fraud, defeated 41-to-52; the Cornyn amendment to deny amnesty to gang members and illegal aliens with criminal records, defeated 46-to-51; the Vitter amendment to guarantee a secure, biometric check in/check out visa system be in place prior to any guest worker program going into effect, defeated 48-to-49; and the Coburn-DeMint amendment to guarantee full border security prior to amnesty, defeated 42-to-54.
Has anyone thought about a grass roots march on Washington? If the illegals can put together hundreds of thousands in LA, surely we can muster more than that in D.C.
We have a US Congress full of traitors and Reps afraid to offend Mexico
They're just doing what you're to stupid to do. We've seen how the minute they arrive in Washington that they immediately become experts on everything.
We've become a serfdom.
Let the revolution begin.
Makes you think Bush is happy with a Democratic Congress.
And people thought I was jumping the gun a few years back. I predicted it'd get this bad...
Here's another... it'll get worse before folks decide to do something about it.
That's why they don't care. Who needs us or their congressional paychecks?
***The Manager's Amendment*** (SA 4188), offered by Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA), to S. 2611, the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2006. The Manager's Amendment made many minor changes to S. 2611, none of have significant numeric impacts on the overall bill. However, the Manager's Amendment included
a provision that requires consultation with the government of Mexico concerning the construction of additional fencing and related border security structures along the international border between the United States and Mexico. This would virtually guarantee that the fence along the U.S.-Mexico border would never be completed. The Manager's Amendment passed by a vote of 56 to 41.
Who the hell is paying off all these politicos?????Is this a major headline in Arizona? Are the people there upset?
The problem is that some yahoos would show up with Confederate flags or Nazi flags and the whole damn media would ignore the issue and focus on them.
Yes, but that's nothing new. We haven't ignored the borders for 40 years because no one knew what was happening. The fact is, we have a majority in Congress for essentially open borders. That majority consists of most of the dems, who are counting votes ten years down the road, and about a quarter of the Republicans.
I know a lot of people don’t want to read this, but take a look at this regarding the border long fence.
What we really need is an organized recall effort, with a few big names targeted. That's the only thing that might stop this runaway train, IMHO.
We need to start talking, people.
I know. The latest, most obnoxious one is that sorry excuse for a man, the sissified, Lindsey Graham. He thinks he's smarter than everyone else. His term began in 2002. It will end in 2008, or hopefully, before!
We've become a serfdom.
Yeah, they're not going to be thinking that when the SHTF. They just need a little dose of reality!
Let the revolution begin.
I think it's just begun!
Sure. We should trust them. Right.
Liar, Cheats and thieves with no ethics, scruples or morals. That's our taxpayer funded govt for ya.

Hey Mitchell.....DEPORT BEFORE THEY COMMIT AWFUL CRIMES, bub!!! THAT will keep us safe! IDIOTS!!
