BOSTON - Sen. John McCain said Monday he hopes to take advantage of former Gov. Mitt Romney's sagging support at home and lead a resurgence of the Republican Party in the northeast during the 2008 presidential campaign.
``One of the Republican Party's problems right now is we're not doing as well as we should in the northeastern part of America, and I intend to work very hard to gain their support and their votes,'' the Arizona Republican said during a stop at the Taj Boston hotel for a fundraiser.
``I think that John McCain is a man of integrity who has certain positions that he is not willing to change for political expediency,'' said Swift.
Mitt stole the strawberries!
Funny, the Romney campaign polls about the same national numbers as McCain. Seems they ain't in the greatest position to be commenting about a "dying gasp", given that Fred has left them in the dust on his way to catching Rudy.
Seems like a lot of fuss to see who comes in third.
He sure does seem obsessed with Mitt Romney, and that can’t be good for Mitt Romney.
Excellent photo work....The McCain Mutiny!
This is the dead burying the dead.
"It's ALWAYS about Me!! Me & Only Me! Me getting what is owed Me, ME THE PRESIDENT! "
"And I'm not a nut!! "
Just like Chris Wallace of FOX News, who has a man-crush on Mitt.
“He is ... a very attractive guy!”
“I have a bit of a man-crush on him”
I don't know the exact number, but I bet it is close to 80%.
John McCain has been a friend ever since the academy. But, I could not further support him, as I have done since his first political race, because of his irrational, dogged stance on the terrible amnesty alien bill. He refuses to revisit the issue taking into account the overwhelming objections of the American people, not to the concept, but to the horrible specifics of a bill drafted in secret and thrust upon the public upon the assumption of rote acceptance and meek acquiesence. He’s normally a reasonable fellow, at least with his friends, and I hope to not lose his friendship after all these years. I doubt that I will.
stick a fork in him, he’s done
The nut thinks George Bush and All Republicans owe him.
IMO, the Senate became a den of corruption when the didn't toss Kennedy out with Chappaquidick.
They further distinguished themselves by not booting out Leahy.
And whatshisname, "The seriousness of the charge" is worth more than the facts of the matter.
And Glen and some other forgotten traitor, obstructing Thompson's investigation into the Clintons and the DNC receiving foreign (Chinese) donations.
McCain's lust for power is damaging the country. Yes, he probably got shafted in 2000 primaries, but it looks like we all did at this point.
He should get over it, and uphold his oath of office.
While there is respect for his service, it is telling how few people in the Navy community (retired or active) have publically supported him.
There are the rumors regarding his Hanoi treatment...
I think some it, too, was the way he treated his loyal first wife while he was interned; divorced her while she was disabled for an affluent and attractive campaign worker, IIRC.
I think the 2000 campaign pushed him over the edge and he's been there ever since.
JMO
p.s. Ex-Navy here as well...
If we was obsessed with his constituents he might actually have a chance at the Presidency. But, as things stand he’s toast. Surprisingly, he still gets a few campaign contributions - but, then so does Nader.
Should we expect to see him drop out soon, so that he doesn’t have to face looking like a loser at the convention? I think he just might be crazy enough to try to stick it out, or run third party.
I sympathize. I have hesitated to criticize him because of his truly remarkable service to this country but, jeez. He just seems to have a serious anger management problem. The most disappointing thing about all this is that Romney considers him a friend too. I wonder if that will survive this campaign.
I appreciate someone who stands up for an old friend but, for the life of me, I wonder who these McCain supporters are? He never polls well on FR.
