They shouldn't be detaining they should be rejecting and reshipping all this inedible garbage that China has been shipping that makes all people unaccustomed to their diseases sick!

Next, all goods manufactured in China should be rejected and shipped back. Wal-Mart and Target will go out of business.

You got to be kidding. You know how many people this effects. I think most of the American consumption of farm raised shrimp and catfish comes from overseas.

They’re going to hold seafood from China at US ports of entry until the Chinese can prove that it’s safe. Yummy.

Great - this poison has got to be stopped - we cannot rely on third world sanitation and ethics in creating our food supply...

Doesn’t effect me. I only eat farm raised cat fish from Lake Okeechobee at a little place called the Catfish House in Stuart, Florida. Best southern food around.

Sorry for the tangent. Always good to hear of a crackdown on China

Georgia Shrimp is good too.

My parents live in Darien GA, Shrimp Capital of the SE. You can go and buy shrimp off the dock for Cheap -- and if you bring your own bucket and buy them before they run them through the sorter, for Cheap Cheap.

WASHINGTON — Imports of five species of farmed Chinese seafood will be detained until they can be shown free of potentially dangerous antibiotics, U.S. government health officials said Thursday.

The Food and Drug Administration said it would detain the catfish, basa, shrimp, dace and eel after repeated testing has turned up contamination with drugs unapproved in the United States for use in farmed seafood.

The announcement was only the latest in an expanding series of problems with imported Chinese products that seemingly permeate U.S. society, from its playrooms to its prisons.

Beyond the fish, federal regulators have warned consumers in recent weeks about lead paint in toy trains, defective tires and toothpaste made with diethylene glycol, a toxic ingredient more commonly found in antifreeze. All the products were imported from China.

China, meanwhile, insisted Thursday that the safety of its products was "guaranteed," making a rare direct comment on spreading international fears over tainted and adulterated exports.

I sure hope Duncan Hunter gets some traction from all of these crazy China fleece-trading deals. He’s the only presidential candidate in the race with a focus on how this kind of thing affects normal Americans.

Wal-Mart and Target will go out of business.

And tens of thousands of American jobs will be gone. With less pressure on other stores to compete, prices will rise.

I don't like the fact that we are funding China any more than you do, but we've got to anticipate and compensate for the unintended consequences!

REASON FOR
ALERT: There has been an extensive commercialization and an increased
consumption rate of aquaculture seafood products. As this
industry grows, the use of unapproved new animal drugs and the
misuse of approved new animal drugs in seafood raised through
aquaculture also grows. The use of unapproved new animal drugs
will have an impact on the safety of aquaculture products for
consumers.

GUIDANCE: Districts may detain without physical examination the products
from the firms identified on the attachment to this alert.

And tens of thousands of American jobs will be gone.

Not if we start manufacturing our own products again.
