A San Bernardino County jury today acquitted a former sheriff's deputy of attempted voluntary manslaughter for opening fire on an unarmed, off-duty Air Force police officer after a high-speed chase last year, a brutal shooting videotaped by a bystander and aired nationwide.

Ivory John Webb Jr., 46, the son of a former Compton police chief, was the first law enforcement officer ever to face criminal charges for an on-duty shooting in San Bernardino County. Webb, who also was also acquitted of assault with a deadly firearm, faced up to an 18-year prison sentence.

You’re not nearly as witty and droll as you think.

I have read the complete thread and you offer zero evidence for review and zero links to back your obtuse comments.

Try again.

Stop being cryptic and state you reasons or shut the he!! up!

Here it is in a nutshell (one with which a dozen jurors apparently caught onto quicklike, unlike a handful of subpar FReepers...):

The prosecution did the PC thing....the defense brought up several expert police tactical witnesses, and pretty much shot the hell out of the charges.

The prosecutors did not prove their case, and the defense was vigorous enough (and rightly so) for aquittal.

Oh...and I will NEVER " shut the he!! up!...that's why I'm a FReeper.

Have a nice night.

Once again you post opinions and expect them to be taken as gospel.

As stated in post #28 (I believe) we saw the video. It clearly shows by both aural and visual means that the Airman was complying with the officer when he was shot.

What is your answer to this irrefutable evidence?

So you think other cops wouldn't ly to protect one of their own?

Of course some would. Where did you get the idea that I did not think so?

I agree with you. This country is getting like Mexico. The corruption gets worse every day.
I can only speculate that the prosecution was threatened with serious violence unless they spiked the case.
Nothing else makes sense.

What was the racial makeup of the jury? How many were women?

Dude, you just don’t get it. The cops are all out to get us — like, they are just looking for the flimsiest of reasons to shoot people...
like driving around a residential area at 100 miles per hour with reckless disregard for the safety of the public, being argumentative and unco-op after the stop, and reaching into your waistband after all of the above.

Yeah, the cop shot the guy for no reason at all...no, none at all.

/sarcasm

Why, because he followed the trial daily in his local paper?

All the legal experts said the County didnt make the case for a 13 year prison term. Juries tend to have city and county employees on them, as they are paid to go to jury duty...they saw the County throw their employee to the wolves under some media scrutiny.

The jury saw the same video as you did, over and over and over and over for a week. Plus weeks of other testimony that you never heard. Yet they voted 12-0 to acquit in 90 minutes.

Maybe you can petition Atty Gen Gonzales to double jeopardy Deputy Webb with some civil rights violations...that is if he isnt swept up in the Cheney subpoenas....

I’d love to know how the jury rationalized this.

They just brought in the O.J. jury.

The rule has been for many years that juries are told nothing about potential sentencing before they come back with a verdict on the crime. For all we know, they may have been dumb enough to expect Webb to get the death penalty if convicted.

“It’s open season now.”

It’s been open season for as long as I can remember, this just continues that.

It’s why I dance a happy little jig when I hear about bad things happening to our government masters.

Most likely. I think the first time he saw the film he was convinced the cop should shoot the guy ~
