What's the Rush?

That's the question Bobby Schindler asked in the case involving Jesse Ramirez, the Arizona man whose case paralleled that of Schindler's sister, Terri Schiavo, until Ramirez woke up. The Arizona Republic reports:

...Bobby Schindler of the Florida-based Terri Schindler Shiavo Foundation placed the blame on a medical establishment quick to dismiss patients with brain injuries.

Schindler is the brother of Terri Schiavo, a brain-damaged Florida woman who died in 2005 after a decades-long court battle.

"What is the rush?" he asked. "This is not the first time we've heard of cases like this where doctors want to write off the chance of recovery, and the family, when they're told this, will make a decision to end a person's life.

"In the case of Mr. Ramirez, he'd be dead now."

Why is Jesse alive? His family sought legal intervention with the help of the Alliance Defense Fund:
His siblings and parents refused to give him up for dead, and today, Jesse Ramirez is alive and conscious.

Two weeks ago, he was the center of a family battling over of whether he should live or die.

Now, he can hug and kiss, nod his head, answer yes and no questions, give a thumbs-up sign and sit in a chair.

More Planned Parenthood news in a thread by wagglebee...

Aurora, IL (LifeNews.com) -- As more reports surface on the new abortion center Planned Parenthood is building Aurora, Illinois, pro-life advocates are concerned about how it was built with so little advanced notice. The 22,000-foot building is one of the largest abortion centers in the nation but Planned Parenthood was able to build it under the radar.

As LifeNews.com reported Tuesday, Planned Parenthood/Chicago Area will open the abortion business in the 200 block of North Oakhurst Drive, located in the DuPage County section of Aurora.

Arlen Spector, a guy supposed to be on our side, is sort of like a RINO...

Remember Arlen Spector from past deeds? He was the originator of the "Magic Bullet" of the JFK assassination and was the defender of murderer/hippie environmentalist Ira Einhorn and allowed him to escape. Now he represents "our side" on the Judiciary.

ProLifeBlogs posted this from Politico.

.......................................

Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA) plans to review the Senate testimony of U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Samuel A. Alito to determine if their reversal of several long-standing opinions conflicts with promises they made to senators to win confirmation....

The idea for a review came to Specter when he said he ran into Justice Stephen G. Breyer at the Aspen Ideas Festival in Colorado.

Breyer, an appointee of President Bill Clinton, drew attention last month for suggesting that Roberts and the conservative majority were flouting stare decisis, the legal doctrine that, for the sake of stability, courts should generally leave past decisions undisturbed....

"I only noticed it in a couple of cases," Specter said of the court overturning or undermining precedents. But Breyer, in their Aspen conversation, said "there were eight."

The liberal concern for stare decisis is code for wanting Roe v. Wade left alone, which is pathetic. They know the ruling can't stand on its own.

Judge...

Dear Members of the Senate Judiciary Committee:

We write on behalf of our more than 70 member organizations, representing some 2 million members, friends, and supporters nationwide who have diverse interests yet all share a commitment to: (1) a fair Senate process for judicial nominees, and (2) Senate confirmation of judges and Justices of outstanding qualifications who respect democracy and self-government and demonstrate judicial restraint and faithfulness to the Constitution.

Judge Leslie Southwick, President Bush's nominee to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, is such a judge of outstanding personal and professional qualifications. Judge Southwick is an American patriot who has voluntarily served our nation honorably in Iraq. He is by all accounts an outstanding legal mind and is highly respected in the profession, having been rated unanimously "well-qualified" by the American Bar Association judicial evaluations committee. He has served with distinction on the Mississippi bench for 11 years.

Judge Southwick appeared poised in May to be approved by the Judiciary Committee and sent to the Senate floor for a vote, when liberal extremist groups decided to strongarm some of you into killing his nomination in the committee. This tactic cannot be tolerated. It is based on entirely trumped up charges relating to two opinions out of a body of more than 7000 judicial opinions with which he is associated.

More Planned Parenthood stuff in a thread by don-o.

Claiming that Planned Parenthood negligently misdiagnosed her cervical cancer for more than a year, former Planned Parenthood patient Rebecca Glover has filed a medical malpractice suit seeking at least $2 million in damages.

Glover’s lawsuit alleges that, after performing a Pap smear, Planned Parenthood of San Diego and Riverside Counties failed to tell her the result: that the test revealed she had cervical cancer.

A sobering perspective indeed. See my last comment in #512. That was like an epiphany -- nothing that I'd been reflecting about, but rather, the kind of insight that is handed down to an open mind. And once you see it, -- but only then, -- it has always been so...

In Western culture, we see it as a "right" to life. But no matter what our culture or religion, a reverence for life is the basis for all moral principle. Truly, we are made in the image of God. To reject our place as His creature is to blaspheme. If the sanctity of life is breached in our mind and faith, the soul at once sickens.

Fr. Euteneuer of HLI is at this moment speaking on EWTN and is talking about Terri Schiavo and her last Mass.

One more black mark against George W. Bush -- rushing to rescue Arlen Specter in the primaries. Specter is arguably the most evil man in the Senate. He and "liberal Republicans" like him have been crucifying America for generations.

I wonder if his ideological compatriot Rudy G. is in on this.

The coincidence goes deeper As you were typing this, and as wife and I were discussing memories of our times with HLI, she was inspired to turn on the tv. Just at that moment, there was Fr. Euteneuer in sermon talking about the nature of euthanasia and then about Terri. On the wall behind him is an exact duplicate image of The Divine Mercy we keep, with the motto, “Jesus I trust in You”, (Thee).

Stumbling today... Just got the spelling of Arlan Specter confused with that of Phillip Spector, the killer (alleged). Maybe I see both as spectres.

Rush Limbaugh on Specter and on Terri...

Why is it that when a liberal like Specter makes a direct threat against the court, which is what this is, because of the justices' actual rulings, not his potential rulings, here is Specter thinking he doesn't like some of these rulings, some of these precedents that have been overturned, so he is going to examine their testimony. Why is there no hue and cry about these threats against the independent judiciary? But let the Schiavo case come up and the left goes absolutely bonkers. Let any criticism of a liberal jurist come up, the left goes bonkers, "You're intimidating the judiciary. You can't do that." Then they start talking about the threats that might be made against judges and they blame it all -- but the liberals can do this, I don't care if they're Republican liberals or Democrat liberals, they can run around and try to intimidate the judiciary all they want. The reason they do is because the judiciary has been set up by the left, it's been infiltrated to be independent of election results. I think these people up on Capitol Hill are totally out of control. Congress is now threatening to censure the president, which is unconstitutional. They are trying to intimidate Alito and Roberts here. It's interfering with the president's unqualified power to fire his own employees like US attorneys. There was no crime, and yet they are issuing contempt citations today. They have done it.

Wagglebee thread on successes with ADULT stem cells. It tells a lot about the left when adult stem cell research pays off again and again, yet the left focuses only on stem cells from killed fetuses, a direction showing very little if any promise...

A cardiologist and cardiothoracic surgeon is saying patients with various forms of heart damage are being effectively treated with their own stem cells. And a doctor from South America says many of his diabetic patients treated with adult stem cells no longer need to take insulin.

To date, there have been 1,800 heart disease patients in registered clinical trials around the world who have been treated with an injection of adult stem cells. One of the doctors who is performing such procedures is Dr. Amit Patel with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. At a recent forum in Washington, DC, he discussed the promise of adult stem-cell research.

We could watch the law of unintended consequences unfold as the sinister side of abortions in India grows.

The wife of a millionaire industrialist has shocked Indian high society by accusing her husband of forcing her to abort two baby girls after taking illegal tests to determine their gender.

Pooja Salotia even accused her husband, Chirag, of trying to force her to have sex with his two brothers to conceive a male heir for the family machinery business in the state of Gujarat. Police arrested her husband, his two brothers and seven other relatives after Mrs Salotia, 32, filed an official complaint in the city of Ahmedabad on Saturday.

Her allegations against 18 people have sent shockwaves across India by breaking a strict code of silence on such matters and exposing the extent of female foeticide among the urban middle and upper classes.

Rudy and abortions thread by monomaniac. Thanks, narses.

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Pro-abortion Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani continues to avoid questions about how his stance on abortion turns off pro-life GOP voters he needs to capture the party's presidential nod. Instead, he is continuing to move the issue to judges, where he pledges to appoint those who won't legislate from the bench.

In California on Tuesday, Giuliani answered a reporter's question about abortion with an answer discussing judges.

Branding?? This thread by wagglebee has some "lively" discussion, namely attacks on our friends...

First it was tattoos; a pimp put his name on the shoulder of his “girls” as indication that they “belonged” to him. Now, unbelievably, those guys are branding their “babes.” It’s happening not in a foreign underdeveloped country but right here in America. Earlier this month, a 40-year-old man, Shawn Bailey, and a 22-year-old woman were arrested in Phoenix for actively pimping girls aged 14-17.

Pat Boone...

HIV? No, that's very serious and alarmingly widespread, but it pales in contrast to the sickness I'm talking about here. Polio? No, the Salk vaccine seems to have brought that scourge under control. Cancer? No, although hundreds of thousands of Americans are afflicted with this dread malady – and too many die – it's not the sickness I'm not talking about.

I'm referring to a sickness that is taking the lives of some million and a half young Americans every year, and has claimed an estimated 40 million lives since 1973. I'm talking about abortion.

The bigger government gets, the more corrupt it gets. It is a law of nature.

It is delicious that adherents of materialist philosophy -- all the while boasting of their rational, scientific thinking -- are ineluctably drawn to all-powerful government. This is their god. They worship the most unscientific, delusional, wacky, expensive and destructive force in life. A redneck yokel has more sense.
