Police uncovered the largest haul of fake passports ever found in the UK as they smashed a massive counterfeiting ring.
More than 1,800 fake passports with a street value of at least ?1 million were discovered in a two-bedroom flat in north London.
Five men were in custody on Wednesday after fake passports for at least 12 countries were found stuffed into a wardrobe, cupboard and briefcase.
Among the documents were 200 fake UK passports which are often considered by counterfeiters as too difficult to make. Other passports were Finnish, Portuguese, Korean, Latvian, Slovenian, Albanian, Danish, Greek, Italian, Belgian and French.
Also found was a mass of hi-tech equipment including printers, scanners, two computers and various false immigration stamps.
Thousands of blank passport personal information pages as well as blank driving licence cards were also discovered.
When officers entered the property, a counterfeit driving licence was being printed in the back bedroom.
Three Eastern European men - one Kosovan and two Bulgarian - were arrested at the address in Poplar Grove, Colney Hatch, yesterday afternoon. They are being held accused of conspiracy to manufacture identity documents and remain in custody at a north London police station.
Following the search, two more men - an Albanian and a Bulgarian - were arrested at addresses in Essex and Finchley, north London. Both remain in custody.
The operation was run by the Metropolitan Police’s Operation Maxim unit.
A Zawahiri tape and the “Good News” banner preceded a UBL tape right about this time last year.

Bin Laden to Issue Videotape Tribute to Slain al-Qaida in Iraq

CAIRO, Egypt, June 28, 2006 - Osama bin Laden will issue a videotaped message paying tribute to slain al-Qaida in Iraq chief Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, a message posted on an Islamic militant Web site said Wednesday.
The message did not say when the video would be posted or whether bin Laden himself would appear in it. The al-Qaida leader has issued three audiotapes this year but has not appeared in a video since one issued on Oct. 29, 2004.
A similar “advertisement” was issued for an al-Zarqawi tribute put out last week by bin Laden’s deputy, Ayman al-Zawahri. The advertisement appeared on the Web a day before the video was posted on Friday. . .
The note for the bin Laden video was posted on a Web forum where militants often post messages. It was in the form of a blue banner signed by As-Sahab, the al-Qaida production branch.
The banner flashed the message, “Good News Soon,” followed by a picture of a smiling al-Zarqawi and the words, “A tribute to the martyr of the Islamic nation and prince of the martyrdom-seekers, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, God rest his soul, from Sheik Osama bin Laden, God preserve him.” The banner then flashes a picture of bin Laden.

(Egypt-AP, July 4, 2007) - Al-Qaida’s No. 2 has issued a new video tape calling on Muslims to unite in jihad, or holy war, and support the Islamist movement in Iraq, a U.S.-based intelligence monitoring group said Wednesday. . .
An Internet site deemed close to al-Qaida’s leadership announced earlier Wednesday that “good news” would be coming soon.
The flashing red banner was interpreted by several other Islamist web sites as a sign that Osama bin Laden would issue a new message soon. It was not immediately clear whether it was in fact referring to his deputy’s new tape.
The pattern seems to be similar to last year - - calendar timing, “Good News Soon” banner, Zawahiri as the set-up man for UBL, and the eulogizing of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.
Here, “Zarqawi” may represent his AQI (al Qaeda-Iraq) cells in the US and the UK and Zawahiri may be indirectly addressing/signaling them along with other potential homegrown cells that have joined al Qaeda-Core (possibly calling themselves al Qaeda-USA) but have not yet declared themselves.

‘Spooky’ website calls doctors to jihad

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “A group of 45 Muslim doctors threatened to use car bombs and rocket grenades in terrorist attacks in the United States during discussions on an extremist internet chat site, it has emerged.
Anti-terrorist police found details of the discussions on a jihadi site run by one of a three-strong “cyber-terrorist” gang.
They were discovered at the home of Younis Tsouli, 23, Woolwich Crown Court in south east London heard.
One message, thought to have been sent on February 12 2005, read: ‘We are 45 doctors and we are determined to undertake jihad and take the battle inside America.
“The first target which will be penetrated by nine brothers is the naval base which gives shelter to the ship Kennedy.”
This is thought to have been a reference to the USS John F Kennedy, which is often at Mayport Naval Base in Jacksonville, Florida.
The message discussed targets at the base, adding: ‘These are clubs for naked women which are opposite the First and Third units.”
It also referred to using six Chevrolet GT vehicles and three fishing boats and blowing up petrol tanks with rocket propelled grenades.
Tsouli replied to the message by saying “He needs the recipe for making car bombs,” and a “recipe” was supplied by one contributor, including gas cylinders as one ingredient.
Investigators have found no link between the Tsouli chat room and the group of doctors and medics currently in custody over attempted car bomb attacks in London and Glasgow.
However, sources said it was “definitely spooky” that the use of doctors for terrorist purposes was being discussed in jihadi terrorist circles up to three years ago.
Part of the inquiry into the London and Glasgow incidents will focus on whether al-Qa’eda has recruited doctors or other medical professionals because they are less likely to attract suspicion and can move easily around the western world.
The three “cyber terrorists” - a British national and two who had been given the right to live in the UK - are facing lengthy jail sentences after admitting using the internet to spread al-Qa’eda propaganda inciting Muslims to violent holy war and murder non-believers.
They had close links with al-Qa’eda in Iraq and believed they had to fight jihad against a global conspiracy by kuffars, or non-believers, to wipe out Islam.
They were also linked to an extremist in Bosnia, who was jailed after police seized guns, explosives and videos espousing anti-western hatred, and to others in Sweden.
The three are the first defendants in Britain to be convicted of inciting terrorist murder on the internet.
Other cases, such as Abu Hamza, have involved incitement in speeches or at public meetings. Instead, the three waged cyber-jihad on websites run from their bedrooms.
Tsouli promoted the ideology of Osama bin Laden via email and radical websites using the cyber name ‘Irhaby007’ - which means ‘Terrorist 007’ in Arabic.
He said in one message he was “very happy” about the July 7 bombings in London in 2005.”

Dear Friends,
Just over two months ago I wrote in my Update that I had the worst meeting in my life. I said I have seen the Devil today. I met this awful man in Amman prior to our last major meeting in Baghdad. I referred to him as the Devil and I even refused to continue the meeting and told the Sheikh who had brought him to me never to let me meet him again.
He told me that they were going to start killing in the UK then the USA. One sentence I remembered but did not understand was "those who cure you will kill you".
I did not understand this then but in the last two days since the terrorist activities in the UK were brought to a head I was not surprised when there were reports that those arrested were all involved in the health services. Those terrible words "those who cure you will kill you" suddenly made sense.
The litany of planned killing was horrendous. I do not know why I was told this by an Iraqi Sunni living then in Syria. I passed on this information to our FCO. I then learned that this person was a senior Al Qaeda figure and so was indeed bent on the destruction of innocent lives. I will never forget this meeting. It remains the worst I have ever had. I hope I never have one like it again.

Sounds like there is more to the story than car bombs. The full story is indeed very important. The most important parts of the “people who cure you would kill you” quote are before and after. America was reportedly part of this threat. And the British would be targeted first.

The man, who was in his forties and had travelled from Syria for the meeting, said that the plans would come to fruition in the next few weeks and target the British first. He said that the British and Americans were being targeted because of their actions in Iraq. He did not learn the man’s identity until after the meeting, and will not disclose it now, but said: “I met the Devil that day.”

(CNN) -- In a newly released videotaped message similar to a "fireside chat," al Qaeda's second-in-command issues advice and directives for the Muslim world, terrorism expert Laura Mansfield said Wednesday.
In the one-hour, 34-minute video, titled "The Advice of One Concerned," Ayman al-Zawahiri includes clips from other videos and news broadcasts, including one from al-Furqan, the video production arm of the Islamic State of Iraq, according to Mansfield, who obtained the video.
Al-Zawahiri says in the message that the defeat of the West is imminent, and that "the enemy" is trying to forestall the inevitable, Mansfield said.
"The good omens of the new dawn of victory have begun to loom on the horizon, with Allah's permission and will," he says.
"And the stage preceding victory is normally, in the history of nations, the stage in which there is most seen an increase in conspiracies, plots and inciting of discord in an attempt by the enemy, who has begun to see his defeat approach, to push back and delay the defeat as much as he can."
Al-Zawahiri does not reference the recent terrorism incidents in the United Kingdom in the video.
