August Vacation ideas for soldiers in Wisconson?

My son has some leave time in Aug. He is stationed in Fort McCoy Wisconson. We are going back for a visit and are unfamiliar with the area. He has requested water parks or water sports. We would appreciate any suggestions.

Wisconsin Dells has some of the largest water parks in the Country. I took my family there last year, some great slides.

Why, the Wisconsin Dells of course!

Biggest concentration of water parks in the US I think I heard.

We go there every year with our kids, there are literally a couple dozen water parks there, some are very HUGE, plus there is the Tommy Bartlett water show, and tons of other stuff that is fun to see if you’ve never been there.

Dan,

there are a bunch of water parks, etc. in the WI Dells area, which is pretty close to Ft. McCoy.

let me check into this. please FReepmail me, and I will be back.

BTW I am a WI PGR Ride Captain, as well as a FReeper. PGR has done a lot with Ft. McCoy.

Are all the parks fun or are there any specific one’s you would choose?

Suggestions on good places to stay? Thank you for all the help.

I echo the comments of others, the Dells is pretty much a tourist trap kind of place. It is as close to water park nirvana that one can go to. There is alot to see and do in other parts of Cheese Head Land as well.

I enjoyed the Kalahari Resort , which has a large indoor/outdoor waterpark.

I also remember Noah’s Ark to be a nice way to spend a day.

You may also enjoy tubing the Apple River. It’s a great, relaxing community event.

Wisconsin Dells for a few days.

Elroy-Sparta bicycle trail goes thru long tunnels and many small towns. A very easy ride with a very slight grade.

Oshkosh has the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Museum) which is great for anyone slightly interested in aviation.

If he’s interested in white water, there’s some great rafting and kayaking on the Wolf and Peshtigo rivers in northern Wisconsin. Wisconsin’s also one of the greatest of the Great Lakes states. He should check out Door County, Washington Island and all the great sailing, fishing, and biking that’s available up there. I’ve done all the things there that I’m talking about, having moved to Tennessee about 20 years ago from the Milwaukee area, where I’d lived and worked for the preceding 12 2/3 years.
