Bootie was asked about the penalties against Knauss and LeTarte being a deterrence. He said “He// yeah! I don’t have a hundred thousand dollars!” That was Friday before the race.

Mountain Dew front-runner for Earnhardt
Pepsi’s decision to pull its sponsorships of International Speedway Corp. racetracks was the first step in the company’s plans to sponsor Dale Earnhardt Jr. when he drives at Hendrick Motorsports next year.
According to industry sources, Pepsi’s Mountain Dew soft drink now is the leader to sponsor Earnhardt Jr. next year.
ISC, which includes the Daytona International Speedway and half of the tracks on the Nextel Cup Series schedule, will have its deal with Pepsi phased out as contracts expire. Pepsi’s deal with Daytona includes Saturday night’s Pepsi 400, but that contract expires after the race.
Pepsi plans to re-direct the money it spends with racetracks to Earnhardt Jr.
Hendrick Motorsports is talking with several companies to sponsor Earnhardt Jr., the most popular driver in racing. Budweiser, Earnhardt Jr.’s current sponsor, is working to remain with him, but Pepsi’s Mountain Dew brand has become the clear front-runner.
DuPont currently has the most-expensive sponsorship deal in the sport at $20 million with Jeff Gordon and Hendrick Motorsports. Mountain Dew is expected to challenge, if not beat, that standard.
Kahne wants out
Kasey Kahne’s frustration at Evernham Motorsports has forced him to ask out of his contract, according to Fox Sports.
Kahne reportedly wants the freedom to negotiate with Dale Earnhardt Inc. to replace Dale Earnhardt Jr. in 2008.
Dodge got a new front bumper this year, and so far it’s been a big challenge to figure out. Kahne has one top-10 finish this year and is 26th in the standings.
Didn’t skip a beat
When Tony Eury Jr. was suspended for six races for using an illegal bracket for the rear wing on Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s car, the team was ranked 13th in the standings.
As Eury Jr. prepares to return for this Saturday night’s Pepsi 400, he comes back to a team that’s 12th in the rankings and would qualify to compete in the Chase for the Nextel Cup.
“Tony Eury Jr. has got his work cut out for him,” Earnhardt Jr. said. “Seriously, man - Tony Gibson (interim crew chief), I ran great with him. (Eury Jr.) has been laying out for six weeks. He’s got to come in here and work hard. I expect a lot of him.”

My crystal ball is still cloudy. :)
It possibly will boil down to the age of Jr and the inability for younger fans to wear his Bud stuff etc. Also, changing the sponsor AND the number will generate a gazillion dollars in additional merchandising money.
I personally still hope for Bud, at least in a Monster capacity., but it’s not looking positive.
I don't think any driver would want to take on the #8 or Budweiser.

I DO know the #8 new driver will catch a lot of heck.
Besides that, KK doesn’t look old enough to drink. He is, but it would be bad advertising for Budweiser IMO to tempt younger folks. I know they drink anyway but they shouldn’t!! That’s how alcoholics are born, and it’s not a pretty picture if you’ve ever known one.
Daytona 500 to be moved to November? This week, sources within NASCAR told me [CTR] there has been closed door discussions to move the date of the Daytona 500, to November. Apparently, NASCAR is intrigued by the idea of switching the dates of the season ending Homestead race with the season opening Daytona 500. The allure of ending the NASCAR season and crowning a new Nextel Cup champion at the sports biggest race is something the France family is strongly considering. NASCAR and the International Speedway Corporation own both tracks so a change of date would be easy to accomplish. Each year since 1959, NASCAR has led off the season in Daytona Beach, FL with the sports biggest race, the Daytona 500. In 2008, NASCAR will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Daytona 500 on February 17th for what may be the final time ever in the month of February. Sources said the late Bill France Jr. was very much against moving the Daytona 500 and felt that it would hurt the integrity of the sport. Drifters performer dies just hours before performance

DAYTONA BEACH — Bill Pinkney, one of the original members of the popular musical group The Drifters — and sole survivor of the initial 1953 band — died Wednesday night at the Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort, just two hours before he was scheduled to perform for Fourth of July festivities at the Bandshell.
The 81-year-old Pinkney, whose band had such hits as “Under the Boardwalk,” “Up on the Roof,” and “Save the Last Dance For Me,” died of a heart attack in his hotel room just hours after he and members of the band — which included Pinkney’s son — arrived from Sumter, S.C., said the group’s publicist, Donnie Lowery.
Despite the tragic loss, the band played nonetheless, Lowery said, and an announcement was made afterward concerning Pinkney’s death.
Rumor last week was Budweiser wanted Kahne. Now we read Kahne wants to negotiate with DEI.
Like pieces of a puzzle.
