To be fair having an affair isn’t illegal but paying for sex is.

That's only because the laws against adultery changed.

Scratch a little deeper and you will find adulterers like Jesse Jackson who stole charitable funds to pay to silence these women.

I have no sympathy for such a colossal ego.
The arrogance to think that he would “get away” with this “sin”.
If you take foolish chances, know that it will be found out.
He has put his wife, children and (in a far less important way) his supporters in a horrible position.
What a jerk.

And so what? I don’t get why some respond to any misdeed by one of ours by pointing to a Dem. A sin is a sin is a sin. We need to hold ours to the highest possible standards.

Monica didn’t have a security clearance when she gave oral sex to President Clinton while he was on the phone deploying troops overseas.

If THAT won’t get your security clearance revoked, then I fail to see the issue here.

Why should he resign?? This happened a long time ago and he and his wife have come to terms with it. It’s over. If he was a democrat, they’d be cheering him. I say STAY.

I’m saying that “adultery” may not be criminal anymore but there are those who commit further crimes (paying for bastard children with stolen money, bribing an employee to lie under oath...) to cover up the affair.

The prostitute is paid for her silence at the time services are rendered in an above the board (though still illegal) transaction.

I thought that the Left wanted Big Brother out of the bedroom but we still have these “pesky” sex laws. Same sex sodomy was not about “consenting adults in private”. That agenda is sanctioned for minors to participate in as well and taught in public schools as “ok”. So is it “commerce” that keeps prostitution a crime? How is a teenager permitted to sell services like home child care (babysitting) without regulations/licensing or taxation?

This has been alleged for years.
He LIED about it. Said the talk was unfounded, vicious rumors.
He has such an ego that he ignored that fact that the info was out there and would come back to haunt him. He thought( or didn't think) that he could just keep going along, and then pull out the “all have sinned” and "I am so sorry" cards.
Well, if he had an ounce of kindness and humility he would not have put his wife, children and supporters in the position of his being exposed.

Vitter was arrogant before he got caught this time. See here how he denied having an affair in 2004:

Congressman Denies Affair With Prostitute, Says Charges Are Politically Motivated

by Christopher Tidmore

PoliticsLA.com columnist

posted by March 26, 2004

For the first time, Congressman David Vitter has spoken out publically about allegations that he carried on an eleven month affair with a known prostitute named Wendy Cortez.

On WSMB radio last Saturday, a caller who identified himself as Elwood asked Vitter about charges, made by a member of the Louisiana Republican State Central Committee in the Weekly that the then-State Representative, had had an affair with a known prosition in the French Quarter. Elwood continued, "Would you be willing to sign an affidavit that you have ever known, met or had relations with one Wendy Cortez."

Vitter responded, "I think you know that that allegation is abosultely and completely untrue...I have said that on numerous occassions...I'll say that in any forum...Unfortuanately, that's just crass Louisiana politics, now that I am running for the Senate. I have made that clear that it is alll completely untrue...And, it's obviously politically motivated."

In point of fact, Congressman Vitter had previously refused any comment on the charges. The story appeared in this newspaper just days after Vitter dropped out of the race for Governor in June of 2002. The Louisiana Weekly published allegations that Cortez, a known prostitute, claimed that she had an 11-month affair with Vitter, a state representative at the time.

Vincent Bruno, secretary of the Republican Party of Jefferson Parish and a member of the RSCC, alleged that Congressman David Vitter had engaged in an extramarital affair. In what was a high-stakes political battle between some of the most prominent members of the Louisiana Republican Party, Bruno charged that a prostitute, who stated her name to be Wendy Cortez, allegedly confessed to him to having a paid sexual relationship with Vitter. Three separate and independent sources, including WDSU-TV reporter Richard Angelico, confirmed Bruno's allegation. Each had spoken to Cortez personally, and she recounted to them the details of her alleged affair with Vitter.

What's the difference between Vitter denying he had sex outside his marriage several times and President Clinton denying he had sex outside his marriage several times?

There is a difference between forgiving repentant sinners, and giving them the huge honor and respect of selecting them to be you leader. He could have stayed home and had a successful life and not put his family out on the line to e destroyed with the (true) news of his sins. That is the problem here.

I don’t think we can compare this to BJ. He is a serial offender.

The number one reason you can't compare the actions to those of Bill Clinton is CONSENT. Bill Clinton raped and sexually harassed subordinates in the presence of law enforcement officers. There was intimidation (slashed tired, dead cats, threats...) for those who might talk.

“If somebody’s smart enough to serve in the U.S. Senate shouldn’t he be smart enough to use a pay phone?”
“1. This happened before he ran for the Senate. 2. Let me see, you are equating “smart” and “Senate”? Think Harry Reid, Ted Kennedy, Patty Murray, etc”

He wasn’t in the Senate- that is correct, but he WAS a member of the House when this occured....

Three hundred million Americans in this country and we can't find a few hundred that aren't degenerates?!

Many millions of those are low skilled immigrants who are doing the jobs that "Americans won't do". Cleaning toilets, picking produce, builing roofs. Also foreign born Americans are inellgible for the White House.

A considerable number of the remaining Americans are below 35 and inelligible for the White House at this time.

Then we have the LAWYERS who make up the bulk of our elected officials. Can you trust a lawyer? You may find that you NEED one at times but do you TRUST him?

It is not a question of being perfect. Are your standards so low that frequent visits to Whore houses are not considered, well, kinda awful and disgusting? He has apparently used them in different states. Seems to have been a habit not a “poor choice”.

FWIW, this was before he was elected to the Senate.

Why is public the place to discuss a politicos sex life?

In this case, if the Senator is truthful in stating that this behavior is behind him, that he has sought forgiveness, then I would not change my vote based on his past behavior. Forgiveness is a good thing.

However, I do think that stories like this belong in the public square, because they involve personal character and trust.

I’m just wondering what could have gone through the mind of a conservative Republican senator, with four small children and a wife, that would lead him to make such a seemingly poor decision.

Why would you think that a politician be exempt from making ‘poor decisions’? Poor decisions seem to be part of their repertoire..... That said poor decisions run the gambit of the imperfect human species. The real question in my opinion is did he learn from it and has he been able to correct his actions and improve his character?

It was BEFORE he ran for Senate. List is 13 years old. How far back do we go and punish a candidate for his mistakes. How many republican presidential candidates are divorced? How many committed adultery in between marriages, or is it only not okay if they paid for it with cash.

You sound way to angry in response to my post. I was joking about the number, but the fact is if we have legalized marriage, what exactly does that mean? Can we, also, legalize adultary? Or would that mean we are legalizing marriage between more than one man and one woman?
