Bergen GOP pins hopes on new leadership (NJ primary fix---global Giuliani plants ringer from Texas)
THE RECORD ^ | Tuesday, July 24, 2007 | OSHRAT CARMIEL, STAFF WRITER , Charles Stile contributed

Bergen County Republicans quietly began a new era Monday, electing Ridgewood lawyer and national fund-raiser Rob Ortiz to head the county GOP. In a vote at the party's festive Hackensack headquarters, Ortiz, 35, defeated GOP veterans Ben Focarino, 64, of Garfield and Bill Thomson, 57, of Washington Township. "We're going to move forward together. We're going to stop re-creating the wheel and we're going to start winning seats," Ortiz said.

Ortiz campaigned for the chairmanship on a promise to unify the factional county party and reverse its reputation for embarrassing defeats and financial destitution. In the last year alone, the Bergen County Republican Organization lost its last remaining seat on the county freeholder board, was outspent 11-to-1 by Democrats for countywide offices and was locked out of its party headquarters for failure to pay rent. Ortiz succeeds Guy Talarico, who resigned in June after he waged a losing primary against two incumbent legislators.

The race for chairman was decided by 455 of the party's 1,040 eligible voters. Ortiz received 263 votes. Focarino received 171 and Thomson 24. Bergen, the state's most populous county, is essential to any GOP candidate seeking statewide office. No Republican has ever won statewide office without carrying Bergen, the adage goes. So bolstering the Bergen GOP is seen as a necessary first step to bolstering an eventual GOP candidate for a U.S. Senate seat or governor.

"This is clearly [a party] where things have been moving in the wrong direction," said state GOP chairman Tom Wilson, who attended the vote. "We've had a lot of divisions in the party. Tonight marks the end of that." Shortly after Talarico's departure, state GOP officials held teleconference calls with representatives of different Bergen Republican factions, urging them to set aside ideological differences with the goal of building a disciplined county organization.

Ortiz, a native of Corpus Christi, Texas, is regarded as a highly productive fund-raiser for the national GOP. He raised money in New Jersey for George W. Bush in 2000 and 2004 and is working in behalf of Rudolph Giuliani's presidential bid.

That fund-raising experience, Ortiz has said, shows him that Bergen has plenty of eager GOP donors. "I know plenty of people who can write the $4,600 maximum contribution level to the president," he said last month. "The task is to translate those large donors into local donors as well." Ortiz said the party also needs to make better use of technology, communicating and organizing quickly via e-mail. And it needs to cultivate a deep bench of potential candidates for higher office -- by reaching out to local GOP mayors and council members.

Many who attended the vote said that no matter who won, Monday marked a fresh start for Republicans in Bergen County. "Everyone and anyone needs to walk in through the door as if they know nothing about the party, nothing about the past," said Joe Crifasi, a Carlstadt councilman. "I would just as soon everyone in the room have amnesia and move forward together."

FR POSTED----NAFTA Superhighway Has Giuliani As Key Player

---SNIP--- The citizens of Texas only as recently as February 2007 began to attend state legislative hearings where many state lawmakers themselves were beginning to become familiar with the Cintra contracts. Several have called for a moratorium on at least the TTC-35 project, envisioned as a high-speed highway, until they can evaluate issues such as eminent domain, cost benefit analysis, environmental impact and homeland security ramifications.

Most interesting to the whole story is not only has Mr. Giuliani’s involvement in the NAFTA Superhighway not ever having been publicly addressed, but how a foreign company is awarded the building of a mass highway system, versus maintaining it, for the first time in U.S. history, and negotiated by the law firm of the top Republican candidate running for President of the United States. And truly disturbing is how such will not only have national and homeland security and sovereignty implications but how it is deliberately being kept away from the Halls of Congress.

Giuliani fancies himself as an expert on homeland security issues and a law enforcer. And he has amassed quite the portfolio since 2002, earning $20 million in that year alone, by selling himself as such. He owns Giuliani Partners, Giuliani Safety & Security and Giuliani Capital Advisors.

In March 2007 he sold Giuliani Capital Advisors, a former Ernst & Young finance company he purchased in 2002, to Macquerie Infrastructure Consortium. Not coincidentally, it is a partner of Cintra’s in its shared operations of toll roads in both Indiana and Chicago, IL.

Bracewell & Giuliani represents some of the biggest multi-national oil, utility infrastructure and financial corporations both in the U.S. and abroad. With that have come the connections that Giuliani has been able to tap into for campaign donors, essential for his presidential bid, not only in Texas but nationwide, as he has become the consummate globalist. But more troubling than potential conflicts of interest as a public servant is his lack of compunction to secure U.S. borders and then planting himself squarely in the middle of one of the most controversial and historic highway system projects since the 1956 National Federal-Aid Highway Act.

Particularly unnerving, given Guiliani’s personal experience on 9-11, is his defense of open borders at any cost while condoning the NAFTA Superhighway Corridor and by extension the North American Union, without the purview or consent of the U.S. Congress or the will of the American people.

We should have seen it coming when Giuliani enacted Special Order 40 in 1994, during his tenure as Mayor of New York City, in ordering law enforcement officers to no longer check the legal status of suspects caught violating the law. We should have seen it coming when Rudolph Giuliani single-handedly decided that illegal aliens were not lawbreakers and also quit upholding the law. And unfortunately we now do see it coming. But sadly, he may now actually be handed the opportunity to no longer defend and abide by the U.S. Constitution of the United States of America. Copyright ©2007 Diane M. Grassi

Everything Giuliani says is an anagram for "I can't wait to get my hands on US government power." Advancing his and his handler's crass global ambitions is the name of the game. The rest of us are all pawns and peons in Rooty's game. Read on.

The Washington Post recently reported that Giuliani Capital Advisors "was sold for an undisclosed amount as Giuliani was preparing his run for president." The Post article also discloses that Giuliani’s secretive lobbying firm, Giuliani Partners, has made more than $100 million over the last five years and that its clients "are required to sign confidentiality agreements, so they do not comment about the work they receive or how much they are paying for it.

Though now running for president, Giuliani refuses to identify his clients, disclose his compensation or reveal any details about Giuliani Partners. He also declined to be interviewed about the firm." The paper provided some details, based "on a review of corporate, government and court records, along with scores of interviews with clients and government officials who have interacted with Giuliani Partners."

COMMENTS More accurately, Giuliani is selling one of the several businesses he is involved in, revolving around investment banking, global security, and international legal representation. Giuliani companies (that we know of) include:

(1) Giuliani Capital Advisors, LLC (AKA Giuliani Partners LLC),
(2) Giuliani Group,
(3) Giuliani-Kerik (re-named Giuliani Security and Safety, after the departure of the tainted ex-Police Commissioner),
(4) Giuliani-Van Essen,
(5) Bracewell & Giuliani LLP law firm (based in Texas with global interests), and
(6) Giuliani Security & Safety Asia

MORE BACKGROUND Giuliani firm has Venezuela ties

The law firm headlined by presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani does business with a company tied to Venezuelan leader Hugo Chávez, who has called President Bush ``the devil.'' Bracewell & Giuliani lobbies on behalf of Texas-based Citgo Petroleum, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Venezuelan oil company controlled by Chávez. The Bush administration said last year that Venezuela was ''not cooperating fully'' with antiterrorism efforts, stopping one step short of grouping the country with state sponsors of terrorism like Iran, Syria and Cuba. Giuliani, the former New York City mayor best known for his leadership after the Sept. 11 terrorism attacks, does not personally lobby for Citgo, though he is a senior partner at the firm and shares in its profits. JERSEY GOP’S RUDY RULES; Rudy rigs NJ primary (Feb 5 primary rigged for Rooty)

By Rober D Novak June 2, 2007

Supporters of Giuliani for president are changing New Jersey’s longtime proportional representation rules for
allocating national convention delegates to winner-take-all, seeking a coup to give the former New York City mayor the lion’s share of the state’s 52 votes. —SNIP—

I have been assuming that Rudy’s candidacy could reinvigorate the moribund Republican party in the NE. That’s a good thing. The anti business posts above should be moved to the Daily Kos.

Bergen county PING.

This is where Scott Garret is the Rep, used to be Marge Roukema.

Fascinating story. The real story is that the Republican party is in disrepair in places, but it can get fixed. Given that Ortiz is from Texas, I wouldn’t assume he is a RINO, but is reinvigorating a NE party in decline and can raise money. The Guliani angle is interesting but not the main driver here, as NJ is the one state Guliani can and will get anyway.

That’s nothing. The California GOP imports its top people from Canada and Australia, and runs candidates from Austria.

The anti business posts above should be moved to the Daily Kos.

I'm "anti" any business that's anti-American, and there's a number of them. I'm "anti" any business owned or controlled by a hostile foreign government. I'm also "anti" any politician who supports anti-American businesses. This is a pro-American position not an anti-business position.

Well, as a former business owner, I don’t think you have any right to classify my business as American because you have not contributed anything to it. That’s just a fallacy. Your post is full of dubious insinuations that border on slander, to imho. You will probably think that makes me a Rudybot, but I think you need a good course in logic.

N-i-c-e take. Well-said.

Kudos for defending our country against lawbreakers.

I have been assuming that Rudy’s candidacy could reinvigorate the moribund Republican party in the NE.

Give me a break. How many times is this ridiculous fallacy going to get posted?

Rudy is not going to attract liberal votes in the general election any more than he'll attact conservatives, who'll stay home or vote 3rd party. In a hypothetical matchup against Clinton, he's behind her in New York and the other so-called blue states.

Rudy's candidacy is destroying the GOP.

I suspect that intolerant and indiscriminate use of the term RINO is a bigger threat.

Well, as a former business owner, I don’t think you have any right to classify my business as American

As an American with First Amendment rights, I have the right to classify any business, including yours, any way I want to. If your business works against the interests of America and American citizens I will classify it as anti-American. If your business, for example, hires illegal aliens I will proclaim your business anti-American. If your business gives American secrets to foreign entities, even if they are only foreign businesses, your business is anti-American. If your business supports foreign enemies of the United States, your business is anti-American. If you have a problem with that, I don't care because you would have exposed yourself as anti-American.

Your post is full of dubious insinuations that border on slander, to imho. You will probably think that makes me a Rudybot, but I think you need a good course in logic

English is not your first language, is it? Your grammar is atrocious and you don't make sense. You also might want to read up on what slander is, maybe you meant libel? Either way, your post shows you don't have a clue about the law of defamation either.

BTW, are you feeling a little guilty about something?
