Sure, but if anything it was a tactical mistake, not a ploy to let the hostage taking take place so Putin could "grab more power".
The facts are the facts. The children had been held hostage for a long time. Long enough that their continued health was a great concern. The terrorists had been systematically murdering male hostages. The place was rigged from top to bottom with explosives. The terrorists showed no concern about their own lives. They planned this attack so that they could take advantage of gaining the largest number of hostages and victims as possible.
Somebody had to go in and start killing. Unfortunately, many innocents died.
It gets worse - lots of conjucture that the Russians even allowed recon missions weeks earlier.

Also, the grit under the nails indicates that this person was clawing thru something - if so, how did the cross emerge pristine and otherwise not ripped off the chain. Mine has broken with a few pounds of pressure.

Whats your problem - there is already court testimony where the officials admit that the Russian tanks fired 7 rounds into the school in Beslan - probably killing more than the terrorists.

If the owner of that hand had a desire to live, when the attack began, they took that cross off their neck and put it in their pocket, to wear it proudly, would have been instant death.
A guess on my part, but it would explain why it is clean and unbroken.
The Families of Nord Ost Theater hostage taking, have also tried to get information and it is denied to them.

The interests of the government are often at odds with the interests of the individual.
In this case, the Russian government decided that beating the terrorists was paramount, even at the cost of innocent lives. This is not unusual for most governments: the imperative is “rule at all costs”.
This is why our Founding Fathers revolted.
Fortunately, the Branch Davidians inflicted so much damage that the government achieved only a Pyhrric victory, and was motivated to return to more civilized ways.

I have been reading on this for a couple years, it is amazing what the truths look like.

Entebee is the good example. But there were the casualties too. Israel speznaz saved most of hostages as the Russian speznaz did in Beslan and Moscow Theatre. Moreover all the participators in the those hostage taking acts (even those who gave teh shelter and information to terrorists) was eliminated by Russian speznaz by now. It is the justice too.
