Posted on 08/01/2007 4:28:27 PM PDT by ButThreeLeftsDo
Just turned on the news. 35W bridge collapsed in the Mississippi River. Cars, trucks, semis.....
Fires burning, tanker trucks, at least one school bus, more than ten cars......
Just now breaking.......
“we just spent how many zillion on public transit that no one uses.”
Klobuchar worked closely with Subcommittee Chairman Patty Murray (D-WA) to win approval of $65 million for the construction of the Northstar Corridor Rail Project between Big Lake and downtown Minneapolis.
brings to mind San Francisco and the earthquake during the game.
This is a catastrophic systemic stuctural failure.
one section went down and brought down the rest fo the bridge. This is NOT supposed to happen. I dont get how a resurfacing project could do this.
Looks like a fairly sturdy design, but it also looks a little rusty around the closest support pylon in the picture. If something like that failed, it would come down.
Twins are here and at 7PM and the Wolves were having a big presser downtown too.
Half the things Shep’s saying he’s qualifying by adding that it’s a report they’ve receive but haven’t been able to verify.
Same here. Hundreds of times.
Wow! That photo shows what a close call that school bus had. Prayers up for all involved.
Yes, I am praying...
In Jesus’ Holy name.
All the kids are out, thank God.
Everyone on FR that has prayer threads need to get these things going.
Silver Bridge, 1967. Eyebar failed. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link..
Not jumping to any conclusion, merely a question as you can see: terrorism? I surely hope it isn't, but no one is speculating as to the cause.
Oh my goodness! That is several hundred feet of bridge! Prayers to all who were traveling through there and I hope their loved ones can contact them.
Great pic,,,that tells alot,,,that’s an old bridge,,,
Normally the Ironworkers replace the iron one piece at a time,,,Makes me wonder who the contractor is and just who was/is doing the work...
There have been reports here of about five manhole covers popping out or something in the last few days. Never heard of such a thing before.
My God, what a mess. Prayers lifted up for all that are in danger.
They are also reporting that cars careened off the Bay Bridge into the water in ‘89. Didn’t happen. One car went off the broken section and got caught up. Never left the upper “deck”.
One eyewitness said that his truck went down about 30 feet, nose down into the ground on the shore. He was scratched up a bit but fine. He helped get the kids off the bus.
All U.S. Districts are considered to be "Infidel" districts by Muhammed's Minions.
Hillary is probably en route to MN - I expect her to dive into the Mississippi river and pull out an infant.
This used to be part of my daily commute...
Why is there a fire? Any idea?
Here we go. Never hear a word about engineering until a single dam is breached or a bridge falls...and then it's either bloodthirsty terrorists or sloppy designers...
It couldn't be dumb construction workers, or stupid govt inspectors, maybe?
He also said the bridge started shaking before it went.
My wife, who absolutely loves Shep, came running into my office screaming "Shep is wrong"!! My reply: "told ya so!"
Man this is horrible.
Surprised no one is even suggesting the possibility.
“35W Bridge Collapses”
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “That motorist told Joe Fryer that there was shaking from jack hammer and then the bridge just dropped.
He said a school bus was on the bridge, but it appeared all the kids on the bus were carried off. They were injured but he thought most of the kids on the bus got off.
Medical personal from around the city is arriving on the scene, but there so many people injured.”

I hate to disagree but Shep has had it since the very beginning with reporters at the scene. It has been great coverage....I have watched since it began. All the stations may have it now but didn’t when it started because I checked.
Channel 5 says that they’re are 20-40 cars in the water.
Don’t know where they got their info from though.
Anyone got a map of what bridge we’re talking about?
Bridge corrosion coupled with a lot of weight perhaps?
See post 167.
Gasoline in vehicles.
“stupid govt inspectors, maybe?”
Hey were here from the government and we are to help. Run!!!!!!!!!!
I’ll bet the people in the Charleston, SC area are thankful for their brand new Cooper River bridge just now. The old one might have been perfectly sound, but it seemed to be getting creakier by the year.
' Oh, give him a break -- he's just relaying information as it comes in, confused and incomplete. If he gets two conflicting reports about "a school bus," how can he even know whether there was more than one school bus on the bridge?
There was one in No Cal that collapsed this morning—might have been construction related—crushed a Fedex truck—but it does seem a little suspicious....
Bridge about 64 feet above the water. About 30-40 cars in the water.
