Just turned on the news. 35W bridge collapsed in the Mississippi River. Cars, trucks, semis.....
Fires burning, tanker trucks, at least one school bus, more than ten cars......
Just now breaking.......
You will also see stuff getting airborne when a concrete road deck shatters because the supports underneath it have given way.
We are a country at war, they admit there are currently Al Quaeda cells operating in the U.S., so what are they doing, watching American Idol and going to baseball games? Oh I'm sorry that's what we're doing.

I pray this isn’t terror as I jusy posted a couple of hours ago, how it felt like the summer before 9/11.
There were apparently 30 construction workers on the deck when this happened. IT would have been really tough to place and ignit shape charges.

There is an engineer on this thread right now. If you see this post would it be unusual for object to blow up when this bridge collapsed??
Oh man BTLD! Just came in from a peaceful evening outdoors.
Prayers all the way around. I used to cross that bridge a couple of times a day. Can’t imagine being on there when it colapsed.

I’m new to this thread. I just tuned into MSNBC (can’t stant Shep) and they said the construction was resurfacing. Were they doing major construction on the road, or was it just resurfacing? Thanks for any info.

I’m pretty sure it’s the same one. When you’re on this one can you see the cedar ave bridge? I don’t remember being able to see it (in fact never knew it was there).
Oddly enough, this was the type of structural failure that ultimately caused the collapse of one of the two WTC towers on 9/11.
Years ago it was reported that the Chinese were mislabeling lower quality steel as higher grades so it would sell better. They didn’t care what might be effected by this. I wouldn’t doubt when the investigation is complete that they used substandard rivets or other steel in that work on the girders last week.
The Bay Bridge didn't collapse in '89, only a single section on the top level came partially loose.
A section of elevated freeway in Oakland, however, did collapse.

A new al Qaeda propaganda ad, headlined “Wait for the Big Surprise” and featuring a digitally altered photograph of President George Bush and Pakistan’s President Pervez Musharraf standing in front of a burning White House, was posted on the Internet today.
The brief clip from al Qaeda’s “as Sahab” propaganda arm juxtaposes the doctored photo of Bush and Musharraf along with previously seen images of al Qaeda’s top leadership — Osama bin Laden, Ayman al Zawahri and Adam Gadahn — as well as a photo of an SUV in a motorcade.
There is no additional information provided in the ad, and it closes with the words, “Soon — God willing,” written across the screen and repeated several times.
