WASHINGTON -- The Investigative Project on Terrorism (IPT), one of the world's largest storehouses of archival data and intelligence on Islamic terrorist groups, announced today the launch of its new website (http://www.investigativeproject.org/) which will feature exclusive reports and breaking news related to counterterrorism. The website will also serve as a one-stop research shop for anyone -- media, law enforcement, and the public -- on the subjects of terrorism and radical Islam.

Terrorist files could be lost (U.K.)
August 29, 2007
A computer expert today told a court that useful evidence could have been destroyed after a PC seized from a man accused of terrorism offences was switched on before being passed to analysts.
Michael Dickson, 42, a forensic analyst with the e-crime unit attached to the police, said he thought it unusual when he discovered the computer had been turned on after it was seized from the accused at Glasgow airport.
Mohammed Atif Siddique, 21, from Alva in Clackmannanshire, denies a total of five charges including distributing terrorist materials through websites and claiming to be a member of the al Qaida terror network.
Mr Dickson told the High Court in Glasgow that the computer had already been turned on when he first examined it. He read out his report which stated: An initial examination of this system revealed it was last activated between approximately 22.19 and 23.30 on April 5 2006. This immediately struck us as being unusual as we were informed that the computer had been seized from the accuseds possession at about 8pm the same date. He said that further examination revealed that the times and dates associated with more than 200 files on the system had been updated between these times. And he added that information may have been destroyed, though it was impossible to tell.
Reading from his report he referred to the 200 files which had been updated. He said: It is likely that this was as a result of the system being started up but even this may have a serious effect on the integrity of the computer system as the data being written to the disc may overwrite information that is of significance, thereby completing it. Unfortunately as this is the case it is impossible to say what, if anything, was destroyed by these actions being taken.
Siddique faces three charges under the Terrorism Act 2000, one under the Terrorism Act 2006 and a breach of the peace charge. He is accused of possessing items which gave rise to reasonable suspicion that they were connected with the commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism. Among the items described are imitation firearms and instructions on making bombs.

FBI seeks two men behaving oddly on Washington ferry
SEATTLE, Washington (CNN)
ARTICLE SNIPPET: Members of the public and ferry workers reported the men to authorities after the two were seen pacing in areas of the boat, including a cargo hold, as if trying to measure distances, FBI Special Agent Larry Carr said Tuesday.
The men were also seen about two months ago taking photographs of the ferries including restricted areas and studying an emergency evacuation poster.
The men were spotted on multiple ferries and ferry routes, Carr said.
The FBI wants to question the men to determine if their behavior was harmless or whether they were surveilling the ferries and ferry terminals for nefarious purposes.
A ferry worker snapped photos of the men using a cell phone camera and gave the stills to law enforcement. The photos were shown to police and ferry workers, but no one could identify the men, so authorities called on the public for help.
ARTICLE SNIPPET: Carr said the FBI made the photos public because the result of not doing anything at that point in time is a ferry blowing up and thousands of people losing their lives. We cant let that happen.

“Metz Fresh Announces Voluntary Recall of Spinach”
QUOTE:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — Salinas, CA — August 28, 2007 — Metz Fresh, LLC is voluntarily recalling bagged spinach as a result of a positive test for Salmonella found during routine company testing.
The spinach is distributed under the label Metz Fresh, in both retail and food service packages. These include 10 and 16 oz bags as well as 4-2.5 lb. and 4 lb. cartons. The only Metz Fresh product affected is spinach that bears the tracking codes 12208114, 12208214 and 12208314. It was distributed in the continental United States and Canada.
There have been no reports of illness or problems related to this spinach.
Salmonella is a common food borne pathogen that can cause severe illnesses, including fever, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. While most individuals recover in three to five days without medical intervention, the infection can be life-threatening to young children, the elderly and those with compromised immune systems. Consumers with any of these symptoms should call their physician.
Consumers are advised to discard this product or return it to the place of purchase for a refund. Consumers with questions about the recall should contact 831-386-1018.
“Nothing is more important to Metz Fresh than the safety of our consumers, period,” said Andrew Cumming, President of Metz Fresh. “As soon as we learned of the presumptive positive test, we directed all customers to hold all boxes of the spinach affected as a precaution. Now, with this positive test confirmation, there is no question that we would recall and destroy all spinach bearing these three codes.”
The positive test came during independent lab testing Metz Fresh conducts on all of its products. Through its labeling and numbering system, Metz Fresh has already tracked, located and put ‘holds’ on the vast majority of the cartons of spinach affected. That spinach will not be released into the marketplace.
While the positive test came from only one sample of many on three packing lines, Metz Fresh has, as a precaution, chosen to recall all of the spinach from the field lot packed that day on all three lines.
Metz Fresh is keeping appropriate authorities updated on the status of the voluntary recall.”

My friend told me that this route (actually two ferry boats) has for the past two weeks had constant Coast Guard escort. Both starboard and port sides of each ferry, going in either direction, have constant CG escort. He said these are the CG boats that are equipped with large weapons, I'm thinking either 20mm or .50. He has been taking this ferry route every couple of days for the past seven years and this level of security is something he has never seen before. Most curious.
“He said these are the CG boats that are equipped with large weapons,”
Good.
I appreciate our Coast Guard and your friend’s observation of our beefed up security.
