Thanks. I’m not proud of the things I did during my stupid years. I hurt a lot of people back then.

Some things you can fix, but some things you can’t.

Kids, don’t ever think you’ve gotten away with anything. Years later, when it’s just you and your conscience alone in the night, the bill will come due. And payback is a bitch.

I agree that dad here sounds like a nut—the incident reeks of sexual jealousy. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if sexual abuse claims don’t come out in the trial.

But with no feeling or movement below the waist Mr. Guzman won’t be having the urge to hide in any more ladies’ closets.

Something tells me dinner at home is going to be more than a little awkward.

True, like daughter will hit the road after this. you know I popped off with the statutory rape and this other stuff about an intruder, but after re-reading this article closely I think he's going to be aquitted. Daughter's credibility is seriously compromised.

I don’t lend much credence to a cretin who shoots a gun through a closed door behind which his supposedly precious daughter is standing. No credibility whatsoever can I throw his way. In short, he is one sick bastard.

You don’t shoot if you don’t intend to hit something, my shooting instructor always said. If you intend to hit something, be ready to prove that it was threatening your life or someone else’s life.

I also have a teenage daughter, and bristle at the thought of someone sleeping with her. That is why I am trying my best to teach her that doing so before marriage is not fair to herself or her future husband. But I cannot see pulling a gun on a boyfriend, even if I did catch them doing it. I would be bitterly disappointed and upset, but, there is really nothing you can do other than trusting the upbringing you give your children.

I also think in this case there is more of a history than the story tells. Regardless, one does not go around shooting teenagers having sex.

Are you a father? Assuming his testimony is truthful (and violence does not ruin someone's credibility, lying and getting caught does), I can understand what he did.

I'm not going to comdemn him for it, but I'm not going to endorse it either. The beating was justified, the shooting ... maybe not. Guess we'll see if they ever post a followup article.

The daughter is demonstrably a very deceptive individual - I’m not sure if her testimony can automatically be considered more reliable than the father’s.
______

If I remember from previous discussions, you have quite young children? Or are in the planning stage? From a man who has now raised 2 (college grads) and still raising a 15 y/o daughter, deception from a teenager is hardly uncommon.

She does not ‘automatically’ get the nod of credibility here, but the actions of the father are so incredibly over the top, he has (again jmo) lost ALL credibility and presumption of truthfulness.

Also the fact that dear old dad is a solid citizen of his community is mentioned.
_____________

I’m sorry, but if the dad is a solid citizen in that community, the community is in deep doggy doo. Solid citizens do NOT shoot their guns through closed doors behind which the daughter is standing.

Sorry. In the he said she said debate, his action are so ridiculously out of line with the events, he loses by sheer weight of stupidity.

The Gunny's tagine:

Re-read 1&2 Corinthians

2 Corinthians 8:24:

Therefore openly before the churches, show them the proof of your love and of our reason for boasting about you.

1 Corinthians 13:13:

But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love.

If my father behaved this way, I’d hit the road too. Quickly, permanently, and with no forwarding address.

As the father of two daughters I can imagine this happening. But then again, I appreciate the difference between imagination and reality. I also remember being a 19 year old boy.

Getting run out of the house would have done it for me.

Using firearms is a little over the line. Well, OK,,,,a lot over the line.

Funny then, that your tagline references the Bible.

_________

Yup. 3 times over. 25 year old son, 22 year old daughter and a 15 y/o daughter.

His actions were waaaay beyond simply violent. It was out of control, and it absolutely does run to one’s credibility, but that is simply my own opinion.

Have some, planning on some more.

That's true.

Probably true, but he's not very smart.

I can't believe he said a word to anyone before he consulted with counsel.

so the father shot through the closed door, hitting the boyfriend in the back and paralyzing him, police said.

That is more then a little over the top when she is 17. These things go on a sliding scale.

17-18 you grab them by the ear and ask where they will come up with the $100.00 a week child support. Then you make them watch the old US Military film "VD & You". Believe me there is nothing like a close up view of weeping sores to squash desire.

At 14-16 you beat them with the pool cue.

At 13-15 you beat and threaten to shoot.

At 12 and under you just shoot.
