Muslim students took a break outside of their University of Colorado office, and in the hallway, positioned their prayer rugs and bodies to face northeast toward Mecca.
It was the second of the day's five ritual prayers. And, except for the echoes of clicking heels and voices, the corridor that houses dozens of other student groups was mostly quiet.
But when the fall semester starts in a few weeks, the University Memorial Center and its hallways, which double as a prayer space for the Muslim students, will once again be bustling.

The requests of students in Boulder are part of a larger national movement by Muslim students...
“One thing that state universities should know is that they are under no obligation to build prayer rooms that are interfaith, or prayer rooms used by one specific group,” Lynn said. “If they do use tax dollars to build an exclusively religious building they risk lawsuits by people that don’t agree with the religion that is being supported in this way.”
Critics say Muslim students are getting preferential treatment as some schools nationwide — including the University of Michigan at Dearborn, a campus that has a large Muslim population — are building footbaths for students, who use them before prayer.
Edina Lekovic, communications director for the Muslim Public Affairs Council in Los Angeles, said footbaths are not even a staple in most Muslims’ homes. She said she would rather see students pushing for a chaplain who could improve interfaith relations between different on-campus religious groups.

Give them nothing and tell them to pray somewhere else. Never in the history of this country have we had so many problems with any other group as we have with Islam. Their contribution to our society is absolutely zero. And we continue to give in. What the hell is wrong with us?

Which is exactly what they (the Christian groups) need to do, so that they are all set up to sue when CU caves in to the Islamic demands.
If they want a Muslim prayer area, they can buy themselves a house off-campus.
Muslim students everywhere often want everything.

I think that when you consider the matter objectively, people who join into any cult religion just have to accept that THEY and not US have to make certain sacrifices.
The CU board should take a listen to this woman before granting any special accommodations to the Muslims.

No, they're correct. Great circle distance and bearing from Boulder, CO to Mecca is 7642 miles at a bearing of 34.6 degrees true north. That's northeast.

Fine... put a fancy compass on the wall that moves in random directions every few seconds. Tell them the earth is rotating, and the direction to Mecca always changes because of that. They’ll spend so much time trying to bow in the right direction they might be too tired to do anything else. :-)
Actually, all schools have them but the muslims just aren't aware of it. They're well marked too with a sign on the door that says "Men".........
