Is Giuliani’s Daughter an Obama Supporter?
The New York Times ^ | August 6, 2007 | MARC SANTORA

Posted on 08/06/2007 4:11:11 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Rudolph W. Giuliani’s daughter, Caroline, has done her best to keep out of the spotlight as her father runs for president, choosing to keep complicated family matters private. And for his part, Mr. Giuliani has tried to shield both her and his son, Andrew, from attention.

But the very public nature of the way young adults socialize via the Internet, posting private musings for all the world to see, thrust her into the limelight today with word that her online profile suggested she supported Senator Barack Obama’s presidential bid.

On her profile in Facebook, the popular online social networking site, Ms. Giuliani, 17, listed her political views as “liberal” and noted her membership in a group called “Barack Obama (One Million Strong for Barack).”

As word of her supposed Democratic allegiances ricocheted across the Internet after the online magazine Slate broke the news, visitors to her profile found that she had already moved to alter history. She quit the Obama fan club at 6:01 a.m., and, after Slate posted its article, she took down her entire page.

Mr. Giuliani alluded to his daughter’s differing political outlook during a campaign stop in Iowa, noting, with apparent regret, that his children “don’t work on my campaign.”

“My daughter, my daughter I love very much; I have great respect for her and I’m really proud of her,” he said. “I don’t comment on children because I want to give them the maximum degree of privacy.” Mr Obama, who was campaigning in Le Mars, Iowa, was asked what he thought about the support from such an unexpected corner.

“That’s very nice,” Mr. Obama said. “We think it’s wonderful that we are attracting support from young people all across the country. I can’t wait to meet her.”

>>>>>Ronald Reagan’s Kids.

Maureen Reagan was a moderate and Michael Reagan is a conservative of sorts. Patti and Ron Jr. are lifelong liberals. Ronald Reagan was a cosnervative.

Whatever politics his kids may follow, Rooty Giuliani is another lifelong liberal.

Big deal.

Maybe it’s just a measure of a family who is mature enough to realize that not everyone agrees politically.

We’ve got both conservatives and liberals in our family, and we manage to keep from calling each other childish names, or insulting the others.

That’s called being a grownup. Those folks that can’t separate politics from family must live pretty miserable lives - or at least their relatives do, whenever they’re around.

She will be 18 before the election.

I understand his kids do hate him because of how he treated their mom.

If he is elected, that could all change considering they could live in the W/H.

Michael Reagan is a conservative of sorts? Doesn’t he host a conservative talk radio show?

Patti and Ron Jr. are lifelong liberals...Rooty Giuliani is another lifelong liberal.

Comparing Patti and Ron Reagan Jr.'s political bent to Rudy Giuliani's is fallacious, deceptive and just plain absurd.

Who do you think you're kidding with this stuff?

And I don’t think a 17 year-olds political beliefs are an indicator of that speculation/gossip.

That comes across as rather a smart-alec thing to say. Perhaps he didn't understand the question.

News alert.

Patti Davis and Ron Reagan are lifelong liberals and so is Rudy Giuliani. Nothing fallacious, deceptive or absurd about that. Its the truth!

Rooty Toot has been marked persona no grata around Free Republic. That is only done to liberals, not to conservatives.

Supporting Schwarzenegger and Giuliani is not the mark of a serious conservative. Anyway. Mike Reagan has a liberatarian bent to his conservatism. Sorta like Sean Hannity.

I read that article about Rudy’s current wife. She set up her claws and managed to catch her prey, as I see it.

She’s also knee deep in his campaign and hey, according to the article she demands a separate seat on airplanes FOR HER HANDBAG!!!

Right there I’m thinking I don’t want a guy in any leader position married to a woman requiring a separate seat for a damn handbag.

Rudy followed his testicles in love and I don’t think his brain has caught up yet.

it makes more sense to take the tack of “Reagan’s children were estranged from him also”, rather than to attempt to prop up some fiction that the Giuliani family is tightknit, despite an acrimonious and ugly divorce.

I’m not propping up anything - only pointing out that a kids naive political views have very little to do with anything.

Sorry - AND pointing out that most rational grownups recognize that everyone doesn’t think exactly like them.
