Very brief, weak, felt it in the Hollywood Hills. But I live on a granite hill, so I am in no position to guage it. I lived through a lot of ‘em.

I have some water, some MREs, batteries, flashlights but really behind in earthquake prep.

Sounds like you have the basics!

Lucky you then. In the San Fernando Valley it was a build-up side to side shake then up and down motion over and over and over. I held on to my chair and computer.

It was loud.

This one was not fun. Remember though that it was shallow so we’re going to feel it more strongly. It was a bit rough where I’m sitting for such a low magnitude.

I saw what seemed to be an instantaneous lightning flash and then felt the rolling immediately. I’m at the bottom of Rocky Peak. For a moment, I was reminded of the Northridge earthquake. Unnerving.

Really? I miss those babies :-)

I lived through the ‘71, ‘86, ‘94 and a few others. Most of the time in the Valley. (though I was only a baby during the ‘71 :-)). When I bought this house in 1999, the geologist told me I wouldn’t be bothered by quakes up here, because the whole development is on a granite hill. We’re on the eastern side of Laurel Canyon, south of Mulholland.

Glad you and everyone is safe, if a little rattled. That ‘94 quake was a big menace, I don’t want to have to deal with that kind of mess again.

I’m always concerned earthquakes like this are fore-shocks.

Just refreshed the batteries in my flashlight and got out my slip on shoes thinking about a shot of Amaretto.

I was in Sherman Oaks in the 94 quake. Now I'm South of Northridge. This was surprisingly rough for such a small quake. I'm still a bit rattled, lol. Nothing fell but the neighborhood is all awake.

Oh lucky you and on a boat where it’s safe! :)

Well hopefully you’ll be on a boat if one ever hits near Marina del Rey. That area has some ground problems where I would not want to be there during any quake.

Then you are on solid ground it sounds like and that’s good.

The only problem with being in the hills is access. Right after the 94 quake when I was able to crawl over all the stuff that fell and get outside, I looked up into the hills and counted several fires. They were still burning at least an hour later and you could hear sirens but the Fire Dept. couldn’t get close enough.

Batten down your hatches and stay safe!

Thanks Karl. That's good to hear!

A family from Camarillo calling into KNX now. Saying they felt a hard jolt then lots of shaking which woke them up.

LOL! Meow! During the 94 quake I was holding on to both sides of my bed so I wouldn’t get tossed out.

Tonight, just as I began wondering if this was going to be a big one, it stopped.

This one felt more like a 5.0 to me but then the epicenter is very close by. At that it was a rough bumpy ride.

Amaretto will work. Slip-on shoes nearby or on your feet is good in case of broken glass. Flashlight - I have the batteries and have to think about the flashlight. This is a wake-up call for prep. During the 94 quake my flashlight went flying.

Thanks Cindy. I should laugh but I’m still a bit rattled. I have been through larger magnitude quakes and was able to get over it faster.
